Ossa Grip?Follow

#1 Jun 04 2011 at 9:38 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone know what triggers it? I tried to proc it with red HP and MP (and as a result, had the opportunity to test it while weakened). So far, no dice, with one mCrit thoroughly confusing me ><;

Probably iceday or ice weather or something. SE seems to have a hard-on for wanting us to cast spells that match day/weather, we've hit a cap on weather effect enhancement, so something like this is a logical way to sidestep said cap.

Not activated by red HP, red MP (figuratively speaking), food (sole sushi), weaknes, ice day, ice element of spell, AoE spells, Dark Arts (lol), or Abyssea itself, or not being in Abyssea. I'm stumped. Or at least stuck.

Remaining ideas: versus Impossible to Gauge targets like NMs (Mikey was right there... why didn't I try...), BCNM, time limits of any sort, ice weather, having an unread message in your inbox... idfk.

It's clearly triggered by having 7 items up for sale on the AH at once, duh. How could you not have tried that yet? Smiley: lol

Now I'm going to rage at anyone who admits to buying stuff off the AH, since they're careless actions could have potentially broken my latent trigger.

Ossa implies Bone. Try nuking undead, maybe skeletons specifically?

In general, Latent effects are activated by draining HP/MP/TP, specific type of target, battle status (engaged vs. idle generally, so weapon in or out), having a specific job ability active, having a specific sub job, or having a specific HP/MP%.

First, I'd go nuke a Ghost. Then (if the ghost didn't work) I'd nuke a skeleton. Then I'd go check things on the above list, starting with Engaged vs. not because it's easy and then Elemental Seal.

If Ossa grip has a Taisaijin-esque undead trigger latent... that'd be a surprisingly good one.

Not active vs Schnitters (skeles) in abyss-attohwa. I was full health/MP, so it remains possible that the trigger is vs undead/skeles WHILE low HP/MP. Fat chance tho'

Not active vs. Mikey. Idea: test on mob frozen by a red proc?

Did you try engaging? The grip could be designed for Herculean Slash.

Not activated by engaging.

You know, for the sake of interest I'd like to know what activates it, but realistically the grip is pretty obviously worthless and not worth carrying around. If it doesn't proc in any of the situations that you've tested, then it doesn't proc in most situations and it isn't worth having.

Did you try nuking with low MP or HP already?

Yeah, figuring out the latent on it is pretty much academic at this point, since it looks pretty safe to call that it's not going to be worth the inventory space. Not even thaaaaaaat huge of a boost... Unless... Is that Ice MAB+2 or Ice Affinity magic attack +2?

Hmm... Has anyone specifically tested it with Herculean Slash? Maybe it's designed to bring the benefits of an ice staff to Herculean Slash (Which are obviously not normally compatible)? Doubtful, but the wording on it is a biiiit odd...

Active on WS seems likelier than the rest at this point.

Mellowy is awesome, now.

I'm sorry. My hoovercraft is full of Summoners. As soon as I claim a thread, they just flood out and cover the whole place. Slippery suckers, those Summoners.

I can verify that Issa Grip is procced by Ice Spikes being up, reducing it to a big number piece rather than actual utility. I'm soooo keeping it.
