I checked the threads on this page, just wondering if Hvergelmir's double dmg affects magic dmg too?

Got a friend who is wanting Masamune, but would go after Hvergelmir if aftermath affects nukes too.

I've heard it does not have any known hidden effects that boost magic damage. Lame how blm never gets a good weapon besides elemental staff.

I was just running some numbers on the level 90 Laevateinn:

Laevateinn RareExclusive
(Staff) All Races
DMG: 90 Delay: 402
Enhances "Elemental Seal" effect

Accuracy +30 Magic Accuracy +10
"Magic Atk. Bonus" +50 "Vidohunir"
Aftermath: Inc. Mag. Acc./Mag. Atk.
Occasionally attacks twice
Lv. 90 BLM

It will out class the old HQ Ele staves by a good stretch, outside of Abyssea though. In Abyssea it only barely beats the old HQ staves.

Then of course there is the problem that still too close to the TotM staves outside of Abyssea, and the difficulty of getting one as well.

I will be interested to see how this staff turns out at level 99, but I do think it needs at little all element bonus % to really put it on top.

I looked through on BG and read up a little on both over the break. Laevateinn will out damage the TofM staves when the aftermath for M.atk is added, but not by a lot. Really wish SE would give blm a weapon that didn't require melee to be useful.

Yup this is true.

I also just ran some numbers with the staff having 70 MaB and the TotM staves still pulled out ahead.

If they really want to make Laevateinn good SE is going to have to add elemental affinity to it.

Wouldn't that be difficult to do, unless there was something like 'All Elemental Affinity +2' or something.

I'm sure whatever SE does they will hopefully push mythic weapons to the No1 spot for more jobs than current by a decent margin.

Just to find out exactly;

wiki wrote:

Does anyone know the activation rate for all 5 pieces, and if possible, 2,3,4 pieces? Also, am I right in thinking when the set bonus activates, you get an average of 56.25% dmg increase elemental spellz (from wiki's numbers).

Activation rate for 4 or less pieces is under 10%, possibly 4-5% with 4 pieces. I will do some extended tests once I finish my last piece. My guess is something along 1:0%, 2: 2%, 3:4% 4:6%

The 56.25% sounds about right. I averaged around 52% on my tests.

Thought I'd post an update. I've been doing some tests on and off since I finished my set a week ago. The results were not what I expected.

61 Set Activations / 370 Conserve MP Activations / 1024 Casts
16.49% Activation Per Conserve MP
36.13% Conserve MP Rate
5.95% Overall
38 Magic Crits at 3.71%

The Set proxie was around the 16-17% with each test. I planned to do more but something else caught my attention.
When I first obtained my 2/5 I ran some tests to confirm what the bonus actually did. I noticed a fairly high Conserve MP rate, around low 30%. I suspected either the set improved conserve MP or blm's base rose sometime post 75.
With my current tests I added some Conserve MP gear +11 and +26 for watersday. I planned to invest in more but I noticed my Conserve MP rate stayed the same, around low-mid 30%, even on watersday using water ring(+15).

I decided to test base Conserve MP rate w/o any of the geotia+2 in case the set bonus somehow messed with Conserve MP gear. I still noticed a 30% rate w/ and w/o any gear. 0 against +26. I haven't been able to get to many watersday tests since it tends to allude me. I also plan to do tests on 66 sch to see if I can get closer to the 25% rate wiki describes.

Anywho here are some of my results for the set bonus.
I chose Thunder II, as I wanted a spell with high enough MP cost I could clearly distinguish mp used with the coat's 2 tick refresh.

None-WatersDay
Set/ConserveMP/Casts
2/15/50
9/48/128
6/32/100
9/32/100
4/56/145
12/85/234
9/47/101
Watersday
4/24/70
6/31/96

More to come.

Actually, it's worth nothing that to a degree, with Laevateinn, you could concivably get the MAB aftermath without meleeing, since as an all-purpose staff, it'll let you actually take advantage of occult accumen. It'd just be faster to get that aftermath going by adding in melee.

Actually, that's what I see the purpose of Hvergelmir as being, as well. It's not better for damage than other staffs, true. I see it's purpose as being a metaphysical battery, instead of increasing the power of your spells, it allows you to charge up tp by nuking, then use that tp to restore your mp. I do think it would be good if they added some enhances occult accumen to hvergelmir though, since blm gets fairly low tiers as I understand? No idea what actual tp gain rates with occult accumen look like on blm, since I've not made a point to play around with it, and at present I just staff swap. Ultimately, I think hvergelmir is less about damage and more about sustainability. It is also a pretty good beating stick.
