so in an effort to prepare for the coming lvl cap increase, I want to get my BLM's exp buffer to 44k.

I tried to do this with campaign but I found myself getting surprisngly low exp rewards from each battle... what does a BLM do to get good, (or preferably exceptional) exp in campaign?

thanks for any comments tips and suggestions

This is going to sound stupid, but here's what I did:

Grab Fanatic's Drink and /whm.

Start out with Fanatic's drink > Thundaga III > Sleepga II > Firaga III (Or Blizzaga III but I'm cheap) > Sleepga > etc. until you die. You can Manafont or buy some Ethers, too, but I never did, just Fanatic's as long as I had RR up.

You have to run towards where they're coming from and maybe pop the Fanatic's early to round them up, but I did get some pretty good exp that way. However, that was before the last update so the mass amount of people doing campaign might mess it up. Just a suggestion.

I bought that lvl72 staff that NPCs for slightly less than it costs to buy and just meleed in the best DD gear my blm could equip and then between dark arts, parsimony, sublimation, spirit taker, and aspirs I could fairly frequently cast tier 3s and parsimony'd -ga 3.

While horde aga'ing can be good, it didn't actually seem better than meleeing/single-nuking.

...if you're not trying to suicide -aga careful about -gaing in general cause there is always people kiting mobs they can't solo that you can easily hit as they run by...which will then immediately kill you and make you waste your melee food you just popped.

The staff's base damage makes a decent difference in your spirit taker damage. The 72 one had slightly better DPS than Kirin's Pole, but you should have Kirin's Pole anyways so you could just use it. Jupiter's would be your next best option so you can rack in extra points from critical hits.

I would sub SCH

Cure your HP back don't use regen

Try and find battles with AoE happy mobs (taking dmg and curing yourself helps bunches) or at least aspirable mobs (all yags are aspirable even if they are melee job)

Oh and use Parsimony for your nukes.

And Spirit Taker helps a lot too.

All campaign mobs are aspirable except ones that are Undead (e.g. fomors).

Edit: and Shadowfang Voids. Since they are dark based, they might as well be immune to aspir.

My BLM campaign setup:

/DNC, DD gear, get yourself a nice DPS dagger (I use Blau Dolch) or Staff and melee/heal/magic damage your way to exceptional XP.

Mp Drain WS: Energy Drain or Spirit Taker. Allows you to keep meleeing and gain back mp through WS

Aspir Samba: Allows you to keep in the fray instead of resting.

Waltzes: To heal yourself and gain xp for damage taken/damage cured.

Essentially this strategy requires you to play BLM like a melee DD: Melee/WS/Aspir MP==> Gear swap (except for weapon) to nuke set like a melee would do for WS, T4 Nuke, gear swap to DD set.

This strategy is the best xp I've been able to achieve in campaign on BLM. You will also find as you get comfortable with this that you can solo tank any non boss mob.

This. You won't actually get credit for your ouput unless you're engaged on the target. This was added when SE nerfed the people/bots standing around spamming bar-spells during the battles to get easy xp.

Huh? This is the first I've heard of this. Anyone else care to confirm this?

I mistyped, I should have said full credit. You will still get some xp for nuking mobs without engaging, but not the full amount.

Here, it was changed with this update:

The only thing I see pertains to the BRD botting nerf. I'm not buying your assertion regarding nukes unless you provide additional evidence.

The phrase "full credit" still doesn't make sense. It sounds like you're suggesting you get X amount of exp/an for a nuke if you're engaged to a target, but only a fraction of X if you're not. I don't see anything on the discussion page that implies that's the case.

Accord to the Experience Point Calculation Guide on FFXI Wiki there is a hard cap of 500 xp per battle assessment for only doing magical damage. So even if you did enough damage to receive 3000 xp you would only receive 500 xp, unless you constantly went back to the NPC for assessments and new tags.

And how does that hard cap change if you engage a mob?

Shaowstrike is full of it. I just went out to a battle on RDM. Got Tags. Nuked a mob for 543. Turned in tags a minute later, got 35 xp, 18 AN. Got new tags, engaged a mob, nuked him for 543, disengaged. Turned in tags a minute later, got 35/18 again. Didn't perform any other actions or take any damage either time.

It's worth noting that I'm not getting the 10% of damage as advertised on the wiki, but being engaged or not has nothing to do with it. Also, I currently have a Dawnlight Medal, if anyone is curious.
