Tips on using Gaiters?Follow

I realize this will make some experienced Black Mages cry, but I'll ask anyways...

After saving up a bunch of gil, I purchased a pair of Herald's Gaiters with the hope of increasing the amount of solo/duo stuff I can do... and simply to have more fun in-game while on Black Mage. To be honest, though, I don't have a really firm grasp of how to fully utilize them.

For starters, I'm using spellcast macros (based off of Aikar's template), but I'm finding the animation lock between casting (no gaiters) and switching back to idle gear (gaiters) is still present and still annoying. Without modifying animations or anything like that, is it possible to avoid this using spellcast? Or is this a non-issue in practice?

While I'm very comfortable kiting with terrain assistance, I was hoping Gaiters would open up some NMs that need to be fought in the open/are resistant to bind & gravity. Anyone have pointers to a nice video library or blog that details some more impressive kills that I can strive for?

I've never actually merited on my Black Mage... anything open up here?

change gear right before you finish casting, so you're still blinking when the spell finishes. or of course you could just replace the .dat with something that won't lock you in place.

You can also use blinkmenot for these situations, which makes it so you don't notice gear changes.

that wouldn't change anything. all blinkmenot would do is prevent you from blinking the animation out, which is the only way to shorten the time between casting and getting the effect from gaiters (which aren't active immediately when you equip them; they take effect after you finish blinking from putting them on, and it won't start to re-render your char until after the spell animation finishes, therefore slowing it down).

quick fix since I've experienced times where the + move didn't go into effect right away (there's a delay while you're blinking that you're still moving at normal speed)

any boots that you macro in; put em in your mog satchel when you really need to focus on kiting and not taking dmg

EX: holding an NM, really low on mp and you need to rely on auto refresh/aspir for mp, etc
