A) The THF would never be able to hold hate on even a single fly.
B) The flies like to cast Aeroga. A lot.

I did this with my bro and got our Voyager Sallets after 20 flies-_-
We just followed the wiki guide, Nuke -> Dot -> dead -> raise and do it over.
umm think we lost about 20k exp or so (can't really remember). The drop rate on the Voyager Sallet is really low ( at least for us). We did it 2 days and on the 2nd day one of us sub thf for TH and got our helm on the last 2 flies lol.

It's literally a joke with 3 SMN and a THF (or PLD) puller, which you might be able to manage with just the SMNs. While I get that soloing would be more convenient it seems with the huge loss of xp it probably isn't worth it, plus getting SMN to 40 isn't that hard and it comes in handy. So you basically need to just find two other SMNs to help.

Iirc, also can be done with 2 SMN and a BLM.

Plus with your suicide runs you always fear losing claim if some SMNs come in to AF the bunch. Anywho good luck on figuring out a good way to solo.

Your lsmate who's former character was more than likely LM17-d for pos hack probably could solo them before he got banned. When people say they can solo things like that and then opt to not do it or provide proof it just seems fishy,

The wife is headed out of town in a week or so for a couple of weeks so I may try to gather up all the SMN's in the ls and head up there. 20k exp loss is not sounding very appetizing at the moment so I will only resort to that if I can't get help, lol.

With the limited time I get to play, losing 20k exp scares me. ^^;

Yeah, I understand a lot of people can't group up at a moments notice and head up to kill a 21-24 NM as easily as others. I'm not mad at all they got their rings and sallets, glad they are going to good use for lsmates who have helped me on tons of other things besides this NM. Just frustrated over the fact that I have went 0-7 on that dumb NM's drop.

Anyways, like I said, I should have some free time coming up while the wife is out of town. Hope to get Sallet and Swift Belt in that time.

My ls will help me, I'm positive of that, just have to be a little more patient (damn you SE, lol) with this NM. Plus, I already have my scale so now just need time to be on my side. ^_^

I've solo'd and duo'd with a whm, on several occasions on this nm. When soloing, most of the time you'll only get bio II off and won't live to cast drain unless there are less than 3 Carmines left.

I found it easier and extremely affordable to bring a whm friend or even a scholar friend to be there to raise as going through 20 odd something reraise earrings is hella expensive. Also, if you're relying on the RR earring only, sometimes you'll get into sticky situations where you may die in a bad spot and when you get up, you may get aggro from the bomb or drake and die instantly without getting reraise up in time which then you'll need to hp.

My advice is to definetly bring a friend with raise, it will make it a lot easier. Basically have your whm camp in a safe place and close enough to the Carmine you are trying to kill. Then cast Bio II, run back to camp as you are about to die and then have your whm raise you immediately. When you kill it, make sure the NM's name is in red when you claim it. If it dies from Bio II unclaimed with the name in white, you won't get any drops since it died unclaimed. The best way to avoid this is to wait till the Bio II gets it's HP to 2% then Elemental Seal and Drain it and pray that it dies.

Going /nin makes it easier as you'll get more time to run to camp because of shadows, before you die but the 3rd run I went /thf and got it on first the fly. If you're bringing a whm, make sure they are not in party as they may get hit from AoE and get aggro. So have the whm help outside pt. I got mine on the 4th run, killed 31 Carmines and lost about 125 000 exp, almost deleveled to 73. Hope this helps.

I killed 4 flys and got a Ring and the Sallet... so I guess I was pretty lucky with drops. If course after I got my Sallet, my linkshell decided they were now interested in killing it too so we went up with 3SMN, 1 PLD and 1 BLM and killed off the remaining flys and got 2 more Sallets.

A note of CAUTION: When the fly gets to low health (below around 15%), do NOT use drain until you are ready for the kill. I lost a kill doing this. The mob was at like 12% or something and I used Bio2 then Drain. After I reraised I let it get to 2% then I used Elemental Seal and went to kill it using Drain. But it would not cast Drain!!!!

I kept getting the message "Can not cast this spell right now" I started to panic as it went to 1% and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Bio2 wore off at 1% and I didn't know what do do so I panicked and casted Bio2 again and started running hoping that it would die. Well, I died first, then the fly died 2 seconds later and I didn't get any drops due to losing claim.

Well, my dumb a$$ didn't even realize that the reason for this mistake was that my Drain recast timer was not up yet. So on the next fly I did the same damned thing. Only this time at 1% it still had Bio2 on it so I cast Poison and started hauling a$$. Luckily it died right before I did and I got the Sallet.

Again, the moral of the story is... save your Drain timer when you start getting near death. I prefer to let it get to 1% then use ES + Drain. If you try it at 2% you may get mostly resisted and not kill it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Next time perhaps just go solo and don't convolute the experience with "help" from your buddies.

I highly recommend using Tonko:Ichi after every Reraise. The process that I was using was...

Cast Bio2,
Die,
Reraise,
use Utsusemi:Ichi
use Reraise Earring
use Tonko: Ichi
Run to where they fly is and make sure he is targeted
Rest for 1 or 2 ticks
Get up and catch up to the fly
As soon as Bio2 wears off, recast Bio2
Run back to a "safe" area to die.

Rinse and repeat

Save Elemental Seal + Drain for when the fly is at 1 or 2%

I tried using the ele debuffs too, but for 25mp they were too unreliable so I just ended up sticking with Bio2. Also, I'm not real sure if you can sleep them. That might have been why the resisted the ES sleepga.

^ K good to know, thanks for the heads up! I finally helped my buddy duo his Swift Belt (1-6, same as me, lmao) so I actually have some free time to try and pull together a run or attempt solo again. We have plenty of SMN's in the ls but they are very rarely ever all on at the same time together. I'll get that damn helm 1 way or another....

What is the strategy for Duo with no deaths?

I'd assume it has something to do with zoning after each bio, then the other person bios while u zone back in...but again, if the flies are far away you have a high probability of dying when you attempt to run across the entire zone with several flies spamming at you.

I just got my Sallet (Jaeger Ring and Banadanna too), finally, after a few solos, a ton of RR earrings, lots of XP and a few wasted scales. I basically did what everyone else did, nothing fancy.

Poison/Shock if you have the chance.

Run back to the Displacement.

Die. As soon as you get up, RR again, Utsu and Tonko in case your targetted fly decides to wander past the bombs.

Thundaga again.

Bio II.

Hopefully you died near the Displacement again. Same deal with RR/Utsu/Tonko.

You're now double-weakened, as the Wiki writeup stated, so damaging spells are out, save for Drain (plus you're lowish on MP as it is).

Wait for Bio II to wear, then reapply it.

Drain if you can.

Repeat the RR/Utsu/Tonko > Bio II as needed until your fly is at ~4%, then Elemental Seal and Drain it. This should kill it unless you get a horribly unlucky resist.

The most important thing is to keep Bio on it at all times. They regen pretty fast, so if Bio drops and you've yet to reapply RR, be prepared for it to tick up a few % HP until you can get Bio back on it safely. This sets you back a few steps and just costs you more XP/RR earrings, so make sure to keep an eye on when it wears.

It's pretty simple, but extremely painful on the wallet and on the XP. Take it slow and keep the reward in mind, don't get cocky and try to overnuke it before you land Bio, as I did a few times, since they'll regen back more HP than damage you did while you're lying on the floor thinking about what you've done.

I've also found that the Kupofried Refresh bonus is very useful for this. I didn't have to rest once at all, and you won't have the time to most of the time. Remember a fresh Signet before you go and if the flies happen to not be up and you plan on staying logged in waiting for them to pop, I'd recommend taking a Signet Staff along with you just in case your Signet decides to wear at a bad time. Most of this is just extra precaution but it's totally worth it in the long run. I'd also recommend taking as many RR earrings as you can hold just in case - you can always sell what you didn't use back and I'd rather be safe than have to waste time farming another Scale.

As a final note: I don't see how solo would be possible at all - can't DoT (and therefore can't keep them from regening) because Sleepga wouldn't stick and you wouldn't be able to catch them all in one Sleepga cast anyway, as they're spread widely throughout the island. Coupled with their -ga that would strip shadows, you won't be able to get off more than two decently fast-casting spells max before they ripped you to shreds. If you were down to the last fly or two, sure, you may be able to handle it without dying, but any more than three I don't see happening at all.

EDIT: Oh! Don't worry about bringing level-appropriate gear. I did all of my solos in Errant Body/legs with a Dark Staff (lol) and random accessories thrown in other slots. You're spending most of your time getting your ass kicked and you kinda want to die asap so you can get up and prepped to land another Bio as soon as you can.
