Does Choke, Rasp, Shock, Sleep, etc worth buying?

or are nukes and ae spells all u really need...

Choke, Rasp and Shock do damage over time, but more importantly it will take down a type of stat for the target. (STR,AGI etc) So while you may not need all, you might as well get Bio, Shock, Choke and Burn. That way for melees you have Bio and Choke to take down ATK and VIT, and for casters take down MND and INT.

As for Sleep it seems to be the same as it always has been in the Final Fantasy games I've played. Its useless. It is ok for Sleeping **** that is easy, but if you are in a real fight in a group and try to use it, all its good for is getting **** agroed on you and getting your *** kicked.

I was in a fairly good group the other night. We were all around 18-20 and working on our sub-job quests. Every so often our puller would bring in one or two extra mobs---by accident.

At that point, it's often a fight-or-flee situation.

I found that Sleep is very much like EQ's Enchanter's Mesmerize-line of spells. The mobs just stand there for a while and wait to be attacked.

Sleep and Bind both have long recast times. (Bind's recast time is waaaaaay too long given how quickly it lets go). By juggling the two spells (and not doing any other casting) I found I was often able to keep 1 or 2 extra mobs occupied while the rest of the group dealt with the "live" ones.

So I'd say Sleep is worth is. Probably more so than Bind.

Many times I have saved my group by putting that extra accidental mob to sleep. And let me tell you they were impressed. Sleep is one of BLM best spells , way better then bind which sometimes will only last one round if that.

Sleep is a stable for the BLM. Its great to hold off the extra monster if you get linked or your tank accidently gets a second mob on him. Sleep is also necessary for Mission 6 or at least it makes it a whole lot easier if you sleep the dragon. I was in a party without a WHM (we did have a couple hi-potions) when we killed the dragon and it was a cake walk cause of sleep.

This may have been gone over in the thread already but im going to go into a bit more detail here. Sleep is one of the most useful spells that a BLM gets, even better when you get sleepga (thats assuming you are very careful with it). This spell Allows for something called crowd control. In effect a well placed sleep or sleepga will save the part ALOT of damage and alot of times the entire partys life. Take for instance the warrior pulls a monster to the group and the monster is giving you alot of trouble but it looks like you have it, suddenly a second monster jumps in. Now this would normally spell the end of a group or time to run, BUT a well place sleep put that monster in the "freezer" to be dealt with at a later time.

Also unlike in EQ sleep WILL hold while you debuff the monster, BUT if you do anything that deals ANY damage to the monster including any form of dot or melee damage he will wake up the second the damage hits. So in a group this spell = keeping the odds in the favor of the group, in solo this spell = plenty of time to debuff the monster to your hearts content then bind it before waking it up.

Keep in mind that just like bind this spell can be unrealiable at times but as a whole it has always worked very well for me. Also as with all spells such as bind and sleep the higher you keep your enfeeble spell the more likely the spell will stick and stick for longer.

As with bind, this spell can be used more effectively and reliably with the Elemental Seal ability. This increased effectiveness can often put a mob out of the fight for a good long while giving the group a chance to deal with the first mob, heal for a sec, and then tackle the second.

I was an EQ player and am familar with its importance for crowd control. My main problem is that it only really works consistancly on things that con weak and easy. When you are in groups you will always be fighting above your level, and in these cases it has only ever gotten me killed, and then usually others as well since when I die a lot of damage potential in the group goes out the window.

I'm not saying don't buy it. You should get it, but just be very very careful when you do.
