Yes, according to the quest info on this site its in San o`Doria. I walked from Bastok to San o`Doria to see if I could aquire it. You need to get Beasts's Blood from Pashhow Marshlands. I stopped off there first to see if I could get some but at level 12 all the monsters checked as tought or stronger, and no one in the zone answered my shouts if they had any to sell. So I kept going to San. Once I got there I found one Drain spell for sale in the Auction house. BUT the average selling price for the spell is 20,000 gil! For a level 12 spell!
And to make things worse you need to be Rank 2 to get into the zone where the quest is given. So I would need to switch kingdoms or get someone to do it for me who is rank 2. Its allot of trouble for one spell.

Anyone know how much damage this spell drains? if its alot I might put up with all the crap needed to get it. but if it drains/heals like 5 damage then ***** it.

where are the marshes from san. I'm about to take on this quest... I rather not look around to much.

I saw a gob take about 20hp from a person with drain. So i think it will be a decent spell... But only for emergencies due to its high mp cost.

I recieved this spell last night.

In order to get the mission, not only do you need to be rank 2, but you need medium fame. Which means you need to do other quest.

A party of 6, levels around 20 can easily obtain the Beast blood from a leech in Pashhow Marshlands.

To get to Pashhow Marshlands, you'll need to head south from San o`Doria, to La Thiene Planes. From there you will hit the Valk Dunes. i suggest when you hit the dunes, that you head to Seb (a small city located at the south end of the map between the beaches) to pick up a map. Once you have the map, head to south of dunes to the Highlands, From there you'll head East to Pashow Marshlands.

I do not suggest you trying to solo the leeches, they are very resistant to magic. They assist as well. And be carefull when it rains. Water Elemental comes out. bleh.

I think you'll have more issues with the Medium fame, than you will with this quest.

Is Drain worth the trouble though? How much damage does it do and heal? Also is the quest item needed called "Beast's Blood" or "Beastman Blood"? I was hoping on finding it in the auction house.

Is it possible for Bastok/Windhurst chars to get this quest? I'm guessing they could do quests in San'Doria to raise their Fame, but they can never get Rank 2 for San'Doria.

So do they get Rank 2 for their Realm, and then come to San'Doria to raise their Fame with the San'Doria citizens by completing San'Doria quests?

You need rank2-3 from YOUR home city, does not matter where.

For those begging the damage of the spell, it varies !

The first thing you need to do when you get it is raise your dark casting skill, through bio and drain this isnt too hard as long as you are fighting tough enough mobs to raise your skill. Once your skill is up there the spell does its full potential for it's level. At level 21 I currently get drains for between 50 and 100. Which literally owns heh. There are occasions where you will get 20, but thats with every spell, there are partial resists to it. I got the spell at level 17, wish I would of paid the money and gotten it at 12 and then done the quest later to recoup the money. It is defiantely worth it and it would of been useful to have at 12 and get the dark magic ability up faster.

I am not sure why some of you are ******** about the mana cost, 21 mana is NOTHING for a spell heh. Actually it's **** nice. The only drawback to the spell is that it has a 1 minute recast. Although it is needed to prevent you from just chaining it and being invinicible. Simply put, its the best spell you can add to your aresnal. You would not believe the amount of utility you get out of it, and how much less mana you need to be healed when you can just drain ever 4 or so casts on a mob. It also owns for soloing.

is the blood needed called "Beasts Blood" or "Feind Blood"? I had people tell me the stickpins (which are leeches) in wadi drop the blood too, they droped Feind blood. Also I see Beastmans blood in auction houses. Which one is the correct one?

Its beasts blood. I was under the impression that the casting cost was 54 MP for Drain and that you could use it only every 10 min. But once again that is second hand knowlege from a web site.

If its casting cost is just 22 ( 2 less than fire!) and does 50-100 points of damage I'm all for it. If you are low level you will NEED a party to kill dem leeches.

Most of the people speaking about how nice this spell is and how they got it seem to be in their 20's with sub classes which makes them even more experienced. Now how exactly is this going to help the newbie lvl 12 get the spell again? They either need to change the level of the spell or they need to rethink this quest. Sorry to say, I am not thrilled to obtain a spell at 2x my level that I was able to learn it. Seriously, level 12.. need to be lvl 20+ to get it. What kind of balance is this? As if this class wasn't challanging enough? Now they are with-holding useful spells from us at low levels. Wonder how many skills warriors and other classes have to wait to use or get until they are 2x their levels? NONE that I have seen.

If you didn't even know how the spell worked then you never did the quest, so your not qualified to answer this question. So can anyone WHO HAS DONE THE QUEST please answer if its Beasts blood or Feind blood.
#20 Nov 13 2003 at 10:44 AM Rating: Default
Well let's see. The NPC asks specifically for beasts blood, so maybe you supposed to give him beasts blood :/

Your still not getting the point. You never Finished the quest so therefor you can't say you know what is needed for sure. NPCs doesn't always say what they need exactly. Also someone posted in the Spell description for Drain (Click Here) that the item needed is beastman's blood. I see that for sale in auction houses so perhaps the quest will not be so hard. Can we get someone else to confirm this?

There are actually a number of quests that cannot be reasonably completed at the level that the reward is for. There are also a number of spells for sale in a location that a character of the appropriate level could not reasonably hope to reach (i.e. Jueno). It might be best to consider these as something to keep the higher level characters interested when they come back to level up in a second class.

However, since you can still track down the components in the AH, or risk sure death by running to Jeuno, you still have the option of getting these items at the original levels.

I ran from Windurst to Jeuno and back again as lvl 8 Taru BLM. It can be done, you just have to be very very careful :)

Ok I just got Drain today so I know all the details.

The item needed to do the quest is "Beastman Blood". You can buy this in the auction house for about 1-2k gil. So you don't need to go kill level 20 leeches to get it.

Next to get into Chateau d'Oraguille which gives you access to Bostaunieux Oubliette you need to be on a mission that requires you to go to the Chateau. Mission 6 for Bastok is the one I needed to be on to get into the Chateau. Just being rank 2 wasn't enough. I don't know how it is for people who are from San d`Oria or Windurst.

Next you need to have enough fame in San d'Oria to get the npc that gives the quest (Novalmauge) to talk to you.

I did not have enough fame, so I got someone who did have enough fame to turn in the blood for me, and he gave me the spell.

Drain has a recast time of 60 seconds. I have 16 skill in Dark magic and Drain was doing 20-40 damage each time I used it, but sometimes it would only do 1-2 damage. The thing is you need to be missing hp for it to drain hp. It can do 30 damage but only heal you 4 because you were only missing 4. Even still it sometimes drains only a few hp, but not often.

The spell is most certainly worth getting. It can save your life if you need a quick heal.

The power of drain is much greater later on. Im a level 19 blm/9 red and i can drain over 80 on alot of mobs so far. Ive heard rumors of it doing more than spells like stone II later but have yet to see this personally

I'm a lvl 13 BLM and just got this spell from Novalmauge. First of all ur rank needs to be lvl 2 and u must have a pretty large number of quests done. I had 19 quests from sands and 2 from bastok when i was finally able to recieve the quest. Then just go buy beastmen's blood from the AH for bout 2k and bring it back to Novalmauge. The hardest thing is getting all the quests done. I love this spell. I have lvl 30 dark magic lvl and drain for around 30-40 hp. My int is like 16 last time i checked so this spell is definetly worth the trouble...

I'm a level 15 Tarutaru BLM from Windurst and I can't figure out how to get inside the castle. I've got 2nd rank and then my rank bar is full from handing in crystals, the guy that indicates fame says that he hears alot about me (so 3rd level of fame).

Anyone know why I still can't get into the castle?

Novalmauge is inside Chateau d'Oraguille (Sandoria castle) under the basement prison. When you're down there, go straight and make a right on the first turn. You will see him walking up and down the hallway.

I was able to enter the castle after I finished "The Rescue Drill" mission. Also, Novalmauge will not talk to you until you completed most of the quest.

I'm a level 20 BLM / 4 WHM with an Int of 22+2. I completed this quest, and depending on the monster (well duh if the monster is resistant to "dark" <like bats and undead> then obviously the spell won't work well or at all), I can drain upwards of 64 HP per drain. I average 54 on Orc Grunts. Watch out for the recharge time (still in the upper 20's in seconds for me, even with a Dark casting skill in the upper 50's) and don't rely on it too much. It's a last resort and since it's both Black Magic AND curing, it generates TONS of hate.

The recast time of Drain is 60 seconds.
