So my SCH is only level 28, but it's going to be my next job to 85 and I'm curious about what you're doing with the merits. I have BRD at 85 which I'm currently meritting, but wondering if I could/should start meritting SCH a little early. Any suggestions? I didn't see a current thread regarding SCH merits. Thanks!

Regarding just the SCH specific merits, this is the commonly accepted "Must have" merits:

- Helix Acc/damage: 5 (max). +15 macc and +10% potency is really good.

- Enlightment: 1. Just unlocking this one will be enough to make your life much, much easier. Reapplying RR2 or tossing a R2 while in Dark Arts, Flinging a Sleep II while on Light Arts, etc. I personally have found it really useful in events with too many people, when i'm nuking and get hit by a status effect. Instead of asking for a -na or Erase, just pop Enlightment and apply it yourself.

- Stormsurge: 5 (max). +7 to a stat when applying storms is great, specially on icesday and Hailstorm, +7 int and Helix (or nuke) away!

Other than this three, it is common to raise the remaining Cat. II points in Focalization, for 2H usage, and 5 in Sublimation, for that extra 50 MP.

There isn't much you can merit for your SCH with only your BRD at 75+, other than maybe MP/INT/-enm merits. And because those merits share a category with other stats, you might not even want to get these.

Elemental/Enfeebling merits would be most useful, but BRD cannot merit them.
You also can't merit any of the SCH-specifics without actually having SCH itself at 75+.

I did the following:

Group 1:
5/5 Helix Magic Acc./Atk (should be a given)
5/5 Max sublimation (so much controversy over this and Modus veritas merits, tbh i dont give a **** about MV merits bc it misses too much, and Max sublimation fits my playing style more)

Group 2:
4/5 Focalization (situational, personally i dont use it much, i perform just fine w/o it)
1/5 Enlightenment (this is good to have around, for emergencies/making your life simpler)
5/5 Stormsurge (pretty much a given, Stormsurge is useful for any scenario)

8/8 Enfeebling Magic (should be a given)
8/8 Elemental Magic (should be a given)

8/8 MP (if SCH or any mage job is your main)

** Things like Enfeebling/Elemental skill should only be added if you're serious about SCH over other jobs. 8/8 magic merits could be going somewhere else for a better/more played job otherwise.

I know I can't merit any SCH-specifics just yet, but I just wanted an idea of what I have to look forward too. :) Since my last post, my SCH is almost lvl 50.

Thank you everyone for the replies and giving me ideas as to what I have to look forward to. I really appreciate it and will refer back to this post when I'm ready to merit my SCH. Thanks!

I was actually wondering the same thing since my SCH is nearing that point in time. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure most sch agrees with these basics:
5/5 helix matk/macc
5/5 Stormsurge
1/5 Enlightenment.
Personally me for the rest I'm choosing 5/5 max sub (MV misses on almost everything, really.), and 4/5 Foca for the times I'm tabula rasa'ing and using all my strats except for like Addenda (because i used it already, duh) and manifestation (while nuking.)
