Sublimation questionFollow
My SCH is currently level 24 and climbing. i wanted to try it out as a sub to my rdm, the combo looks fun. Thing is, i have a 75 rdm in shell who keeps calling it a useless sub, and tells me the amount of mp sublimation restores is totally random. now, unless i misread sublimation is a max of 25% of your max hp. he's got over 1100 hp as he is elvaan and keeps getting returned mp of 60-150. what gives?

You'll get 2mp stored every tick up to 1/4 of your total hp. He should cap at 275~.
If you re-use sublimation before the charge is capped, then you'll only get the mp for as many ticks as it's been on for.

SCH's one of my favorite subs on RDM, too. Far, far, far from useless since it enhances the job's black magic side fairly well and you've still got some status cures if the situation calls for it, too.
Anyway, if he's changing gear around that could affect his max HP, that'd also alter Sublimation's output. He probably thinks /SCH sucks because Sublimation doesn't stack with Refresh. Not an uncommon sentiment, but I'm kind of glad it doesn't.

one other thing that hasnt been mentioned that is causing him to think the amount is random.
if you ever fall below 50% of max hp, your sublimination stops charging, so if you take alot of damage all at once then its cut midcharge instead of being able to charge to full..
at 1100 you should be getting 275 per sublim unless you change gear somewhere near the end that changes your hp amound, or get sent below 550 by damage.

...and if the LS mate is using Convert before Sublimation is fully charged, that would stop the charging process, since their HP would drop below the threshold.
As far as i can tell, he's standing in whitegate or jeuno doing nothing at all watching sublimation charge. dunno. i'll make him demonstrate tonight
Edit: he figured it out last night and is now as adamant as i am about what a powerhouse combo rdm/sch is

It's really not that amazing. It's a good situational sub, but hardly awesome. Sublimation returns less MP over time than refresh, even counting the initial cost of refresh. If you're going to be locked into the healer or magic damage roles, it can be nice, but for general utility RDM I'm more of a fan of our other subs.
