With my current stats I hit 17 as my top damage on enspells without weather effects. Is that pretty much standards for sch?

Also, as far as weather goes, is that calculated when I cast the initial spell or on each hit? Basically I'm looking at how to best help melees in a merit situation.

I'm thinking it would probably be Firestorm + Enfire but if there's on thing I don't understand it is enspells.

Let's see as a SCH you're Enhancing Magic is 256 with Light Arts +15 with AF legs.
That makes 271.
+7 from Relic Body
+7 from Enhancing Torque
+5 from Merciful Cape
+16 from Merits
= 306 Enhancing Magic skill
Now useing the Enspell damage formula (( enhancing_magic_skill / 20 ) + 5 ) * (1 + weather_modifier + date_modifier)

Now we look at max damage so we assume double weather and the same day of the spell element. (single weather 0.1, double weather 0.25, day 0.1)
(( 306 / 20 ) + 5 ) * (1 + 0.25 + 0.1) = 27,405 floored to 27

Adding in Hollow Earring for another +3 and Lycopodium Earring for +2
We could reach an Enspell damage of 33 per hit.
But i guess your melees will prefere Void Storm because of the + to all Stats.

+7 to Strength will do more than +3 to Strength and Dexterity, especially on weaponskills.

Edit: Oh, and to actually answer the OP myself...

Firestorm won't be adding much to your enspell damage - since it's a 30% chance of a ten percent bonus, you'll be seeing +1 to +2 damage from a weather bonus, up to +2 to +4 if it matches the day as well. You're better off casting to match the elemental weakness of what you're fighting, as reducing resists will be more effective over time.

It's calculated at the time of initial casting, the same as Stoneskin and Phalanx, so you're best off macroing in +enhancing gear for the cast.

Don't believe +Enspell gear transfers to other people at the time of cast, either. If they have it, they could use it once the effect is on them, but since Enhancing merits aren't one of the more popular choices out there, +19 is about what you could expect for a good high end with available gear without the merit consideration, which would be my current amount.

Edit: I've never seen a +27 on my RDM while running around with 301 skill. I could see a +20-21 now and then for SCH, but I'd say focusing more on mob weakness or at least neutrality is more important than relying on the very rare situations we're fighting in double weather zones on the right days. Resists will happen on harder stuff, especially stuff like Colibri where +13-14 would be more expected at the same skill.

Thanks for the info. That's actually how I've been doing it (firestorm + whatever mob weakness) and I had guessed I was doing it wrong. When I looked at the formulas I saw that the weather modifiers were fairly significant so I just wasn't sure.

I'd be careful about using aoe firestorm + enblizzard together. Most mobs are weak to Ice so enblizzardga usually produces the least number of resists, but fire weakens ice and can cause a random 10% loss in damage AND accuracy. Thats where Void Storm came from, the dark weather won't interfere with the Ice damage.

Mobs that have lower resistance to "Ice" are,

All Birds (Ice => Wind)
Mamajool (Ice => Lizards)

So choose wisely.
