I'm asking from a subjob point of view, so I'm not sure if this belongs with SCH or WHM forum, but I was here.

Anyway.

I'm a 75WHM leveling SCH for a lovely new subjob, and I've been really excited about the assorted job abilities and also Aspir.

But it suddenly dawned on me: even if the cap for Dark Magic is raised to 256 as WHM main, will I be able to skill up Dark Magic as WHM/SCH to a point where using the Dark Magic is any more worthwhile than /BLM's? Or does /SCH Dark Arts make the magic type count as a "native" skill?

Wouldn't make much sense if you can't skill it up as /SCH, but then it wouldn't make sense if you could.. >_<;

I currently do not have any jobs higher than 37 with native dark magic skill, but it is capped for 37. It would really be dumb though if I can't get it to a worthwhile level without leveling BLM/RDM/DRK. :(

From what I understand how dark arts works, it'll raise the magic skill to 256, or a B+ rating, even if your main job doesn't have that skill. So you don't have to worry about leveling dark magic skill for whm/scholar.

no, you don't have to worry about leveling dark magic skill. When subbing sch all you have to do is use dark arts and drain and aspir will be usable efficiently. I use aspir when i'm smn/sch all the time.

So scholar has automatically capped magic skills when using the relative Arts ability? o_O Or does it only apply to when it is subbed? I can't tell on my own due to skills capped from other jobs.

Edit:

As a fellow WHM that just finished levelling a SCH as a sub, I must tell you Dark Arts makes using Drain/Aspir WONDERFUL. I used to get crap MP from /BLM (unless one used ES), and the difference is ginormous.

Also, Sublimation is *** on a stick.

All you have to make sure to get the 246 skill from /SCH is that the Dark magic skill from /SCH37 is blue. That means that when being WHM75/SCH37, if you have 101 (?) dark magic from your sub, you'll get the maximun bonus from Dark Arts; raising it to 246 (It doesn't raise it to 256 if you don't have over 200 natural skill).
