Is there any advantage of a 75 SCH/DRK as an endgame stunner over say, a RDM/DRK of the same lvl?

Yes you will go longer before getting flat out resists with higher Dark magic. You will also be able to land Absorb Vit and Mnd a **** of alot more accurate. 18 difference in VIT and MND are huge. Considering your basically buffing every melle with 18 str and giving Slow + Para decent boosts in potency. Something hard to pull off on endgame mobs on my Rdm. You will want to comunicate with your Rdm so he knows to hold off on Slow2 and/or Paralyze until after the Absorb. He will want to follow right behind you in casts due to diminishing effect over time.

Rdm/Drk is mostly Chainspell Stunner but after Magic resist Nerf it has really crapped out and is better used spacing stuns out, And having people store bash JA and blu headbutt so you can all just go back to back without completely destroying your accuracy with stun.

I don't know if anyone would bother with it. BLM/DRK would be far better for what you describe, yet I've never once seen a BLM sub it.

As far as SCH/DRK as a stunner goes, typically RDM/DRK is better. RDM will have a lower recast time, since it has more fast cast gear (vs dark arts) and can haste himself. RDM also has chainspell, as stated before. There may be an extremely isolated scenario where you need to cast an AoE stun on a group of mobs. I can't think of a situation to apply that, but I guess it's possible.

If for some reason you had the ability to use alacrity before your stun, you could cut the recast in half. I suppose it's possible, since stratagems have 60 second duration. You could use one long before your stun, and apply the job ability again while you're awaiting the stun recast. Once you're out of charges, you could two-hour to renew them and have free charges for the next minute. You may be able to get 7-8 half-duration stuns off that way. I'm not really sure what that's worth. Just a thought.

This was very helpful and good food for thought.Smiley: nod SCH is actually my lowest-lvl job right now (at 14), but I intend for it to be my next 75. I was just trying to work out some different facets of endgame use.

Dynamis... stunga. Don't know which scorpion in bastok is casting breakga? No problem! stun them all. Mage statues in windy trying to manaburn your blms/alliance? stun them all! Sleepga 2 just wore? Stun them ALL! Can also slap on bindga before sleep wears, if your LS is really organized.

"To the OP: being a BST is about learning to when to fight and when not to fight and learning to love your little beasties as much as they hate you. 1-75 is a tough journey and there are high points but many many lows but its all worth it in the end believe me. AoE Stun is one of those "well, I can do this but there really isn't a situation where it's really useful" abilities.

Yeah I agree AoE stun just doesnt see applicable, not to mention no mob or group of mobs ever does anything in unison like say you want to stun to block the mob's 2hr from finishing, well if there are more than one of them I hight doubt they are all going to use their 2hr at the same time. I see /drk as very possible once sch if sch gets stoneskin and blink, but until then I think /rdm /whm are best really, I know I dont want to loose my stoneskin and blink options much like a whm or blm wouldn't want to.

Even then, a BLM-DRK-RDM/DRK have had no problem doing the Stunning. Sure, Scholar can do it, but there should be better ways we can apply the "unique" talents of Scholar to endgame activities.

The reason you Don't see Blm going Drk sub is same reason you don't see any Blm using Sch sub right now. Absolutely no defensive ability, Blm are there to Nuke and sometimes crowd control, and the sub is extremely situational seeing as Blm already have stun-aspir-drain natively. That is not the same for Sch, Sch can maintain themselves much further down the hate list than Blm and Rdm using several debuffs and cures. Having an additional stun is extremely useful. On anything nasty we always set up a stun Cycle. And on my Rdm I am a side stun not in order as I am usually constantly casting, And always there for the CS stun when needed.

And as I am sure you already know your Dark skill is much higher than Rdm. I swap in Lightning staff for stuns, I did not have to do this prior to resistance nerf. For speed yes Rdm will win for Acc Sch will win. And as the fight progresses with stun frequency being high a Rdm will flat out be resisted. I was defaulted for providing Accurate info but I believe most people just do not have the experience to provide a good account of how CS Stun was nerfed to **** and back. The first three Stuns during CS will generally go unresisted after that its a crapshoot. Now if Drk sub gave absorb Int I doubt this would even be debatable how good this sub was for Sch.

As it is Drk also offers a stun through Weapon Bash, Gives sleep, Bind, Tractor, And a few others not really noteworthy. Depending on fight the loss of Matk may be too great. If needing a good stun cycle being able to step up means alot. The other down side I see though is the whole swapping between arts as Stun is a spell typically used to respond instantly to nastly spell or TP moves.

Every sub is situational that does not mean you should ignore this sub for what it provides.
