Ok for parties where no status ailments are used (colibri / marshe mures, possibly trolls) could you /BLU for MAB I + Healing Breeze + Wild Carrot? Just some thoughts of a possible sub that includes healing tools and MAB. Also this is for XP parties not soloing, so SS + Blink not as useful.

I think it'd be largely for soloing, but i don't think its gonna help out much. While your healing blue magic will be indirectly influenced when light arts or dark arts is active, the strategems won't affect any of the blue spells.

although group cocoon would be awesome :)

it seems like you're gonna loose too many other spells in the end. if you're concerned about MAB, just go /rdm. I find that the few times i need to heal the whole group, i have stragems up. Accession + regen 2 will clean up every now and then if you're worried as well.

Well I was more thinking that because BLU magic isn't effected by arts, then you could have Dark Arts up full time (or nearly), and not have the white magic penalty's for Healing Breeze / Wild Carrot. Stratagems don't stack with BLU spells but your really only using it for 2 healing spells + MAB. /RDM gives MAB and FCII, but no mp efficient curaga, and when I say MP efficient, try to imagine 50% MP reduction on every single curaga II used cause thats literally the kind your looking at. Mostly this would be for main healing on colibris, puks, and tragopans/marshe mures. With colibri being the only one where MAB wouldn't matter.

Why do you need curaga for the mobs you're fighting? By the time you're at that level, you have access to AoE stoneskin off of /WHM or /RDM. Stoneskin gives 350 HP to everyone for a cost of 87 MP. Plus it has other benefits, like protecting shadow users and generating far less hate. You can also cast it before people get hit, instead of waiting until they get damaged to cure them. I guess the big con is it wastes a charge. If I had a lot of shadow users, I would definitely want it though. You're also giving up the ability to -na, sleep, enfeeble, etc when you choose /BLU sub.

I could see /BLU being pretty good pre-stoneskin, for a party killing flies or something.

It's really good 1-10, pollen owns cure and you get it earlier (even with sub blu skill). Havn't tried it any later.

/BLU can be a useful sub for any class healing when status heals aren't required. I use it often for RDM when I don't need status heals but want cheap heals. I can't imagine it being useless, but it's very situational.

Part of the reason I don't consider using it on Scholar is because you lose so much. Sure, you get Healing Breeze and Wild Carrot, but when I main heal Colibri on Scholar (with good players), it is almost impossible for me to run out of MP unless I just spam Cure IVs at everyone, then don't rest. Losing the utility of a Red Mage sub hurts.

I have never seen or heard of any mage going /BLU but to me it does sound interesting, not something I"d use all the time but I might actually give it a try, nice thinking outside the box.

I can't see why a Red Mage wouldn't sub Blue Mage at Colibri (other than not having it leveled). I've had White Mages sub Blue Mage at Colibri camps (although he had forgotten to change it after doing something else). It's a good sub for Red Mage when you don't need status cures. Healing Breeze and Wild Carrot are the second best spells for Cure/MP (the first are the Waltz for an amazing 0MP!)
