Please help me in filling out the Allakhazam Wikibase entry for Scholar (FFXI). At this point, I anticipate only edits to add links, and game screens. That is really all we need until the job goes live in game.

Or, you can simply post any information/screens to this thread and I will sift through it and put the relevant information in the Wikibase entry.

Thank you for your participation!

I guess I will be the first to pitch in... this is coming from http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Osaka_Altana_Festival

The Scholar will have access to two Grimoires (Book of Magic). One white, one black. The white magic grimoire boosts white magic spells, by lowering cast times and costs. The down side to using the white grimoire is that black magic has the opposite affect of longer cast times and mp costs. Also, spell accuracy and potency is also increased while using the correct grimoire.

The Scholar is able to keep the affect of the white or black grimoire up for as long as they wish, having a short to no recast timer, but they are not able to have both the white and black active at the same time.

There is more, but I'm not sure how that works ^^;

[EDIT] ok, now that SE has officially announced the JA names, let me update this post. Actual JA names are in brackets[].

連環計 (Chain Tactic)[Tabula Rasa]: During the duration, White Magic and Black Magic are both enhanced, can use Tactical Magic Books without any charges.

White Grimoire: Enhances White Magic, Divine/Cure/Enhancing Magic skill bonus

Black Grimoire: Enhances Black Magic, Enfeeb/Elemental/Dark Magic skill bonus

以逸特労* Tactic[Modus Veritas]: Boost up DoT damage, halves the duration.
(* This phrase implies: Strengthen defense, and wait for the enemy to weaken. )

戦術魔道書 (Tactical Magic Books):
For White Grimoire:
1. Chapter of 簡素清貧 (Modest and poverty)[Penury]: Halves the cost next White Magic spell
2. Chapter of 電光石火 (Thunder flash and rock fire**)[Celerity]: Halves the casting and recast time of the next White Magic spell
3. Chapter of 意気昂然 (In high spirits)[Rapture]: Next White Magic spell receives (magic) potency
4. Chapter of 女神降臨 (Goddess advent)[Accession]: Next Enhancing/Cure type White Magic that targets PT member become AoE. (Triples MP cost and doubles recast time)

For Black Grimoire:
1. Chapter of 勤倹小心 (Thrift and cautious)[Parsimony]: Halves the cost next Black Magic spell
2. Chapter of 疾風迅雷 (Wind and thunder speed***)[Alacrity]: Halves the casting and recast time of the next Black Magic spell
3. Chapter of 気炎万丈 (Million miles of spirit flame)[Ebullience]: Next Black Magic spell receives (magic) potency
4. Chapter of 精霊光来 (Elemental light cometh)[Manifestation]: Next Enfeeble/Dark type Black Magic that targets enemy become AoE. (Triples MP cost and doubles recast time)

I know the translation is TERRIBLE, I did the best I can. I don't have enough knowledge of Japanese/Chinese history to understand the exact meaning of the phrases. It's kinda awkward that Scholar has the western mage look, but uses eastern tactics...

** "Thunder flash and rock fire" both implies "speed" or "fast".
*** "Wind and thunder speed", again implies fast.

I have yet to see anything that alludes to a spell potency increase, other than forcing weather effects in order to make use of Elemental Obis. I did however note they stated skill/accuracy increase when talking about Black Grimoire and offensive spells. And I suppose one can extrapolate that SCH Dark Magic spells at least will gain potency since they use skill to determine potency of effect. And SE even gave WHM/SCH example of Black Grimoire giving better aspir/drain returns (though even that could be attributed to just accuracy from Black Grimoire). I don't see why people think Black Grimoire is going to give MAB or enfeeble potency boosts though.

Now a one minute timered JA to increase MAB on the other hand....

I really hope the AOE abilities are available at or before level 37.

Right now, the NPC for Scholar quest, named Erlene is located in Eldieme Necropolis through the zone with this guy outside talking about losing a map. She will despawn whenever the orcs are attacking and reappear immediately after music stops. You need to bring her a stack of vellum (going for 48k on my server).

it seems he arts give 10% conserve MP built in - literally shows the MP different when you activate it, i speculate 10% casting haste as well, but unconfrimed, and it seems that skills are pushed from C ranking to about B+

Scholar when subbed will push all skills to about 246 at level 75 when an art is equipped, for all you summoners, you'll be able to aspir effectively with this subbed, and even nuke somewhat :)

Here is what I know of the Scholar Job...

2-hr Job Ability - Tabula Rasa
Optimizes both white and black magic capabilities while allowing charge-free stratagem use.
Duration - 1 minute

Notes:
When active, all stratagems can be used charge free.
When the effect ends, you will have a full set of charges for your level available. That is, it will be as if you waited the full recast time to restore all of your charges.

Level 10 - Light Arts Job Ability
Optimizes white magic capability while lowering black magic proficiency. Grants a bonus to divine, enhancing, and healing magic.
Duration - The Ability will not go away until you switch your "Art", are KO'd, switch zones, or log off.

Notes:
Using Light Arts gives a scholar access to abilities that enhance white magic.
Light Arts reduces MP costs for white magic by 10%, and increases MP costs for black magic by 20%.
Light Arts decreases casting time for white magic by 5-10%, and increases casting time for black magic by 20%.
Light Arts reduces recast time for white magic by 10%, and increases recast time for black magic by 20%.
The change in spell cost and recast times will be reflected in the spell menu.
Raises the skill cap for Enhancing Magic, Divine Magic, and Healing Magic from a D rating to a B rating. Note that this will increase sub job skills to the main job's level at a B rating.

Level 10 - Dark Arts
Optimizes black magic capability while lowering white magic proficiency. Grants a bonus to enfeebling, elemental, and dark magic.
Duration - Same as Light Arts

Notes:
Using Dark Arts gives a scholar access to abilities that enhance black magic.
Dark Arts reduces MP costs for black magic by 10%, and increases MP costs for white magic by 20%.
Dark Arts decreases casting time for black magic by 5-10%, and increases casting time for white magic by 20%.
Dark Arts reduces recast time for black magic by 10%, and increases recast time for white magic by 20%.
The change in spell cost and recast times will be reflected in the spell menu.
Raises skill caps for Elemental Magic,Enfeebling Magic, and Dark Magic from D to B. Note that this will increase sub job skills to the main job's level at a B rating.

Level 65 - Modus Veritas
Increases damage done by helix spells while lowering spell duration by 50%.
Recast Time - ??? (Need information on this one)
Duration - ??? (Need information on this one)

Job Traits:

Level 10 - Resist Silence
Increases resistance against silence.

Level 20 - Clear Mind
Increases the amount of MP recovered while resting.
MP per tick = +15

Level 30 - Max MP Boost
Increases maximum Magic Points.
Max MP Gained - +10

Level 35 - Clear Mind II
Increases the amount of MP recovered while resting.
MP per tick = +18

Level 50 - Clear Mind III
Increases the amount of MP recovered while resting
MP per tick = +21

....I'll be adding more information shortly......Next up is the usage of Stratagems.

This is not entirely accurate.

At 75, this is true, however, for a majority of levels (at least levels 1-63) if the magic skill is not native to the main job, it is only raised to approximately a D level. We're still trying to figure out at which level it increases sub-acquired skills to a B level.

Also, even if the magic skill is native to the main job, if it is lower than a D rating, Light/Dark Arts will only raise it up to a D rating. Again, this is true for levels 1-63, while at 75, all skills are raised to around a B rating. We're still trying to gather info on when it changes from D to B.

Stratagems:

Displays grimoire abilities available when using Light Arts or Dark Arts. The abilities available within Stratagems correspond to the type of Arts the scholar currently has activated. No abilities will be displayed if neither Light Arts nor Dark Arts has been selected.

Stratagems do not have a recast time. However, the use of these abilities is restricted by the number of "charges" available, with each ability consuming one charge per use. When using the "/recast" text command, it is necessary to nominate a specific Stratagem to which the scholar currently has access, such as "/recast Celerity". This command will display the amount of time remaining until a new charge will be generated, as well as the current number of charges available. The number of charges available depends on the level of the scholar. When set as main job, a scholar has one charge available at level 10, two at level 40, and a maximum of three at level 70. When set as support job, a scholar always has a maximum of one charge available, regardless of level. Charges are regained at four-minute intervals, meaning twelve minutes are required to regain three charges.

List of Grimoire Abilities:

White Grimoire:

Level 10 - Penury
Reduces the MP cost of your next white magic spell by 50%.
Recast Time - 4 Minutes
Duration - 1 Spell or 60 seconds, whichever occurs first

Level 25 - Celerity
Reduces the casting time of your next white magic spell by 50%.
Duration - 1 Spell or 60 seconds, whichever occurs first

Level 40 - Accession
Extends the effect of your next healing or enhancing white magic spell to party members within range.
MP cost is tripled and casting time is doubled.
Duration - 1 Spell or 60 seconds, whichever occurs first

Level 55 - Rapture
Enhances the potency of your next white magic spell.
Duration - 1 Spell or 60 seconds, whichever occurs first

Black Grimoire:

Level 10 - Parsimony
Reduces the MP cost of your next black magic spell by 50%
Recast Time - 4 Minutes
Duration - 1 Spell or 60 seconds, whichever occurs first

Level 25 - Alacrity
Reduces the casting time of your next black magic spell by 50%.
Duration - 1 Spell or 60 seconds, whichever occurs first

Level 40 - Manifestation

Haven't tried it first-hand, but I seriously doubt it.

Divine Seal's description says "healing spell" so it works with any healing spell, blue or white magic.

The Stratagems specifically say "white magic" so it most likely needs to be an actual white magic spell.
