I need to update my sig >.>

Get chattin' RDMs. What's new? Other than RDM seemingly having gone from desirable for group play to... not so much.

RDM/WAR still seems fun, at times. I like -pdt set with martial knife and genbu's shield and then swapping to aeolian edge gear and kaboom... 15x 1k dmg. Soloing Kuftal for limit points is so easy. Farming flame geode on fire day in kuftal too, weather permitting! Is there a limit to how many targets AE can affect? It seems like regardless of how many crabs and lizard I gather, I never see 1k x40 pop in the log /shrug

RDM/NIN Requiescat is kinda fun. I wish I could dump the time into the game for Almace though haha

And to help make your time fun checking out this particular thread:

What is this 2013 you speak of?! Is it not the year two thousand and eight?!

The sarcasm of the above roughly sums up how I feel we've changed between then and now. :(

If RDM has remained stagnant since 2008, I'd love to hear some examples or opinions of jobs that have changed much more dramatically. I don't really feel that MNK or THF have changed all that much.

So far, my impression on the lack of a desire for a RDM seems to be heavily rooted in the way abyssea procs work. No one needs a RDM to proc red or yellow. No one specifically seeks out a RDM for procs.
Also, WHM's ability to keep people alive relative to RDM's ability to keep people alive has distanced itself quite a bit to RDM.

Of course, I'm still trying to learn odds and ends and my understanding may not be fully matured.

I can tell you this though, it's definitely not 2008 anymore! Have you checked out any CES 2013 gizmos!?

In my opinion, the general overview of RDM's issues stem from the fact that it's got all these powers, but no one of them is good enough to justify an invite. No two of them, even. Any one role a RDM can fill has a list of specialists that fill it better.

RDM at its best utilizes all it's powers more comprehensively and cohesively; the class's hybrid powers get star status in events like Campaign, Besieged, or Bastion, where sticking to just one role nets you less reward than branching out.

In short, RDM needs endgame events that better cater to hybrid functions, rather than hoping to shoehorn into events where its inferior to other classes.

For Voidwatch though: yeah, procs. Getting more proc options would be RDM's best hope.

My cynicism hangs largely on the lack of change RDM has received. Sure, the level cap increase happened, we got some "mandatory" tier ups in nukes, but not really much else. WHM got Addle and our Gains in AoE form. Our melee game improved some in both WS choice and gear, but it's still never desired. Enfeebles not Stun are still generally useless, too, and Immunobreak didn't really address RDM's fundamental enfeebling issues at all: It just made it easier for other classes to hit the same walls we do. We did get Shield Mastery, though!

And while other classes may not have changed as much, it's more of a testament to how good they were to begin with once you shed RDM's veneer of Refresh/Convert Immortality. MNKs were good DDs at 75. Now they have even better gear and a couple JAs on top to help them along. More comparative to RDM, BLU grew exponentially. Not only did they get new (good) spells and gear, they got new traits on top like the ability to set DW3 so they can also /WAR for Berserk (and in the future, /DRK). BLU could also see some interesting tanking potential if the Defense tweaks Matsui hinted at amount to much, but the enmity system is still an elephant there.

So, despite RDM's gains, it's also "lost" things to the times. Solos don't mean much or done more comfortably by other jobs. Pink magery, much as I don't miss it, is basically the last resort after WHM and SCH healers. Refresh isn't as needed due to gear and stronger MP efficiency options of other jobs like Arts or WHM's Emp legs. Slow/Para means nothing on mobs whose auto-attacks are technically TP moves. We also have no unique procs, or at least when we did, they were locked behind merits, forcing RDMs to gimp their decent spells just to have them. Personally, I won't be sad if the proc system never returns in future content.

So, while SE could try to take SR's approach to hybrid-friendly content, my fear is such content wouldn't be rewarding. Look at Campaign, at best you got the Rose Strap and then some level 68 sets. A solo friendly activity, sure, but I also don't believe a RDM has to play solo to actually BE a RDM, and not the imitation WHM or BLM some look to it as, or the WAR it never was. The job needs help, all around help. And as much as I hate to say this was the inevitable fate I saw way back in 2004 once our toys became tertiary, well, here it is. And some people are happy about that.

How sad. I spent so much time on Rdm back in its prime days ( Beginning till 2006) till I took a few years of a break from the game, only to find that it has been laid to rest so to speak. I wish that SE could find ways to fix each job so that they ALL have their own unique abilities, instead of taking the same jobs and renaming them and tweaking them slightly.

Lately it just seems that they recycle ideas and infringe on other jobs making the old ones obsolete. C'mon SE........
