I took a rather lengthy break from the game, and only recently got back to my Rdm.

Back before abyssea I used to enjoy spending my time in Campaign Battle as Rdm/Blu and could hold hate on my chosen mob fairly well cycling through my Sleeps, Bind, Blind and Dispel. I've been spending a lot of time in campaign again recently and I dont know if its just a result of the level cap increase and other jobs becoming stronger, but I just cant seem to hold hate like I used to.

Was it adjusted at some point, or does my memory just suck?

Enmity values on a lot of spells were adjusted to basically curb NIN/DRK's superiority over PLD in both damage mitigation and hate retention. I think it was a dumb move, as debuffs should've only offered full enmity if they landed, but c'est la vie. On some level, it's at least had a benefit in being an AoE sleeper and not being guaranteed death on larger pulls if someone else is trying to get their attention for your recast(s).

That said, if you're trying to hold a mob's attention in Campaign, do damage. Easier said than done for RDM given our slow to non-existent martial growth post-75, but decently geared you should still be able to hold attention from weaker, lower-leveled players.

No, virtually every spell we used for emnity got nerfed to the ground, removing any and all hate tools we have at our disposal aside from Cures which really aren't sustainable.

They did this fairly decisively a while back intentionally to remove Red Mage from the Viable tanking role.

Aww that sucks! I had been feeling all nostalgic recently, and have had the urge to do some of the old stuff I used to love!

So I take it the days of rdm/nin tanking are long dead?

Depends on your definition, certainly dead in large alliance-type groups. It can manage in 6 or less depending on party type and target. Just have to keep a stream of nukes going.

Didn't they just kill RDM cure cheats too? I thought we got an enmtiy - trait on our cures, or was that just WHM? Bout the only way a RDM can tank is if it can reach the CE cap before any other job, and then avoid taking hits at all. ATM the only way to do this is to have everyone hold off while you cap it via damage.

Tranquil Heart, for 90 Whm it's -9 enmity (doesn't count toward gear cap I've heard), less for Rdm, but yes.
