Perfecting RDM PartyingFollow

Howdy y'all, first time poster here [plainly], so be gentle.

I've recently started playing again and enjoying idly levelling WAR and MNK and sometimes PLD too just for S&Gs. I want to get back into RDM, as it's my highest job level [38...i'm a lazy player, don't be judging], but I can't quite get back into it. Life was easy from about 35 backwards, I could melee and enfeeb, throw out a few cures to help the WHM and every now and again, WHM rest time permitting, throw in a nuke as well.

These days, I seem to encounter nothing but main heal parties! I understand RDM is malleable enough, and WHM can be hard to come by sometimes, but I end up in level sync parties at Qufim [usually out of boredom], where I end up burning out my manapool, someone dies and I lose my pants. I suppose what I'm asking is, how at 38 before refresh/convert and spending thousands on yag drinks [i know cooking/synergy but again lazy player, I'm a grinder and traveller not a synthesiser...yet!], can I be a more effective support job? I could continue my pre-35 hijinks but 5/6 parties I was asked to main heal, and declaring main heal off-limits is silly.

I hope this made sense!

Odds are if you're invited to a party, you'll be main healing. The only way to really escape this is with a static or linkshell party, but you can also solo/duo FoV fairly easily. I'd suggest doing the crabs/pugils page in Qufim at that level, which should also take you to 41 before some of the crabs start conning TW. If you can /BST, even better, but with signet buffs and stoneskin/phalanx, you should be pretty durable on your own.

A better way is to start your own parties by first inviting WHMs.

Also, don't waste money on yag drinks.. buy cookies or melons. Don't get me wrong yag > cookies, etc., but it's not worth the money or inventory. If the party wants to ensure your mp is good at all times, then they'll invite another healer.

Everytime I've level RDM to 75+ on a new character, I learn something new about the job.

The following will really help your MP (enough to main heal easily, if you need to)

Things you'll wanna buy:
-A heavy MND set
-A heavy hMP (healing +MP) set
-Goblin Mushpots (bought from Goblin merchant in Lower Jeuno)
-(optional) A melee "idle" set, with melee food

Things you'll wanna do (in this priority):
1-Cast Dia every fight (if someone else in your party has Dia, make them cast it)
2-Cast Paralyze every fight (wearing your MND set)
3-Maintain Regen cycles on anyone missing HP
4-Cast Gravity on any near-full-HP mobs your party is dealing with
5-Cast Slow on any 100%-full-HP mobs your party is dealing with (eg Slept mobs)
6-Melee
7-Rest with hMP

There's a LOT more to it than that (Cure bombing, Sleeping, etc), but if you stick to the guidelines above when you can, you'll be surprised how easy it is to deal with these unsaid circumstances.

The first thing you'll probably notice is you'll be curing MUCH MUCH less.
The second thing you'll notice is you'll be free (as main healer, mind you) to functionally go AFK.

---EDIT---
On my Hume RDM (Fleuret), I went from 19 to 65ish, doing the above in Qufim (and sometimes jungle) sync parties...

On a somewhat related note, "Black n' Blueing" (BLM+BLU manaburn) those areas is best.

I would move regen further down the list if the player isn't getting hit often. Also, regen is something you can do BEFORE/AFTER a fight depending on the level of hp lost and how much mp you have.

A lot of it depends on what type of party you in and the people within your party.

Try to feel out what the party is in need of. If the party is creaming the enemies with no problems then Enfeebles are probably not needed. You would be better off melee/nuking/healing. If your party is fine on heals, then do some DD work. Keep composure up so you don't have to worry about buffs placed on yourself and keep a haste/refresh rotation going. RDM are 80% Support(enfeebles included in this) and 20% DD. Some parties you may find yourself without any time to DD... other parties you may have all the time in the world.

A valuable RDM will not have to be told what his role is, we are there as a back up everything. A lot of times I like to over take my competitors in the party by over performing. Other classes like it too when they dont have to work so hard. RDM and BRD <3 right here.
