i'm a thf looking for advise on some add effect kilas. from alot of the stuff i read magic acc/eva and magic att/def are basically the same thing. This is very confusing, so i came to the red mage forums for answers. Magic acc/evasion imo sounds like it pertains to enfeebles, where as magic att/def sounds more like nukes. so for discussions sake, lets say i'm tanking a mob that nukes alot, should i go for a magic evasion set up or a magic def set up? Same for the opposite, a mob that enfeebles alot? other scenarios that would help clear up my confusion would be helpful, what ever works best really ^_^
if they really are the same, whey would they put Noesis helm in with +4 mag def and +4 mag evasion?

magic evasion vs magic defenseFollow
Magic Evasion refers to resistance, this includes enfeebles (outright resisting them in some cases) and nukes (seeing a higher chance for partial resists 1/2,1/4,1/8)
Magic Defense is applied to only damage nukes, and is compared to MAB. If a you have 0 MDB you take 100% of the spells damage, if you have 20MDB you take 80% of the spells damage. If you have 50% MAB and a MOB has 20% MDB, you effectively have 25%MAB. 1.5/1.2 = 1.25.

Posted: Mar 19 2011 at 1:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Completely wrong. A good comparison is magic evasion vs evasion and magic accuracy vs accuracy. The main difference would be that acc=evasion happens at 75% hitrate while magic acc= magic eva happens at 50% magic hit rate.

Until you get to the point where you care about the fact that rounding occurs during certain portions of the magic damage calculation, MDB and MAB have not a damn thing to do with each other. They are simply two factors, and multiplication is associative. MAB does not have a place in this discussion.
