I had never known there was any sort of hatred for Waltz4. Waltz 5 is just a bit insane with it's recast though, so I never use that.

It would be nice if there were separate Waltz categories at least, putting Divine II, Waltz 5 in Waltzes III, and Divine and Healing Waltz in to Waltzes II. These(healing waltz is always useful, though still has to long of a recast timer) would be far more useful then at least.

I don't keep up with most Dnc forums as is though, so I might have just plain missed the hatred for Waltz4. I'm not much of a saber dance user(I'm always solo) so I've never had a problem with it.
Though you might have meant 5 all along, and the recast blocking the use of any other waltz for 20 seconds is pretty much the only reason it's hated. That's to damn long, you don't see a 20 second recast on Cure5 or Plenilune Embrace(not as strong of course).

2: My personal rule of thumb atm is: voidwatch, dynamis NMs, and pretty much anything super high evasion Ill use phurba/dex kila. Everything else that I don't need to tank with eva kilas I use the STR one in some type of configuration. I've said it many times before, DNC is really low on attack and its very rare that you're capped. The problem however is that this rule of thumb may not be true in the future since we have 9 more levels to go. I think that's one of the reasons why I've made 5 magian daggers and working on 2 more lol.

3: From what you have described in using waltz 4 just for a one time cure bomb, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that...hell in that situation you might as well use 5.

The problem, as stated before, comes when you need to spam a cure to keep people alive, or need to both cure and erase status effects. Here is where it is more time and TP efficient to use CW3.

They don't work offhand, but TP Bonus +100 weapons do.

It largely depends on what you're doing and the quality of your support.

RR/GH/SS is the best in terms of straight damage output (I think?) -- if you're confident about not needing perma-RR.

I approach DNC with RR/GH as the go-to atma to start with, and then use the third depending on target, etc. Apoc is pretty good in general and the safest bet. I've used Future Fabulous for some excursions, e.g. soloing Fuath. Depending on whether you have two AGI Kilas or the target mob, you may also consider Siren Shadow/Cloak and Dagger/Sand Emperor to boost evasion.

Not really any hard-and-fast rules! RR is pretty much default for everything unless AE burning. I think GH gives some really good all-round bonuses for tanking/DDing/whatever because it boosts evasion, AGI-subtle blow, and, of course, crit rate. Apoc has different advantages but not quite enough to be a default atma to me if I'm extremely confident in staying alive.

Just going to drop this in here as well since while it may warrant its own thread my questions should be answered quickly.

I am looking for a list of NM solo's you(being anyone really) have done.


Also Kuryami: Ni (sp?) from looking at it roughly 50% less than a NIN's land rate, Stutter Step reduces that by 25%, so 37.5 a Staff would reduce that by another 15% so about 28%. With astetics tonic is it possible to cap or approach the cap. Im looking at maybe around a 85-90% Of a NIN land rate (if ive done my head math semi accurately about 80-85%).

Now how often do you land this spell, and how do you prepare for it to land.

Have you found any that you simply couldn't gt around. Im thinking I may take a sta at the mandy who drops BLM pants. Did BLM/WHM and THF/NIN, with minimal healing, I wonder how DNC would fair.

(also do you have any information on how to get Kuryami to land more reliably, im assuming my stutter step/pluto staff/astetics drink is about the only practical way.)

I killed Nonno a few times solo for his Atma. He's one of the NMs that taught me the value of a PDT set on Dancer. It's pretty easy for us to cap evade rate on most things in Abyssea (without Evasion gear), so throwing on some PDT is often the best way to go if you're looking to avoid getting one-shotted, survive Dream Flower, etc.

I blew through some evasion Atma numbers, and DD gives more evasion total than GH, but GH contributes more to the AGI-TP suppression thing. I'd recommend trying RR/GH/DD in the future, to make capping out evasion even easier so you can use PDT gear with an 80% evade rate. My set is currently:
Fugacity/Twilight/Musical/Novia
DS+1/Melaco/Dark/Dark (11% PDT/MDT)
Blur/Scouter's/DS+1/Ballerines

It's not perfect, but 26% PDT is a lot better than stacking more evasion that doesn't help me.

It also helps to WS once or twice and then turn around, Fan Dance up, and let people proc while you build steps/TP. Then you can turn back around, go back into offensive mode, and blow up the NM you're fighting. This keeps its TP moves to a minimum if you can keep it above 75%.

Oh, and because I'm tossing out research, the Eva/Eva Skill relationship has been proven. Also, we either get Evasion Bonus IV or Closed Position works even when our back is turned. I'm actually leaning towards the second option at the moment, but I only have 10 merits built up right now so I don't want to take them out and repeat the test yet.

Every Salvage zone but the Discoid chariot can be Melee x2 + RDM trioed pretty easily these days. Discoid one can be trioed, but it takes a different strategy (kiting or pets).

Well, color me suprised.

A few nights ago I tanked for my ls on abyssea NMs in altepa (manticore, scorpions). Then I went and started soloing things. I knew dancer would be a decent solo, but I'm suprised that I can solo many things easier than I can on my summoner or puppetmaster. I mean, I went on dancer to get my last two summoner leg seals because I didn't want to kite that Apkalu on that tiny ramp.

I dropped seal farming and am trying to blow through my evasion daggers; I can tell that I'll be doing a lot of tanking and soloing on this job and these daggers are going to really help.

My question: atmas. I've been using RR/GH/CD. It's the cloak and dagger I wanted to check if was correct. The evasion is great, and I think the accuracy matters for landing Violent Flourish. Anyone have a better general solo/tank set?

Well, I've acquired several more merits, and an undying hatred of stingy squid.

Just wondering what people think about meriting strength vs. dexterity.

I've become bored with my heavy hitter job (warrior) and haven't played it in ages, and only then to skill up other weapons. And I don't play my pup much these days due to the Soulsoother AI bug making it hard to solo hard NMs. Point being that I don't really need strength too much. My only other 90 is summoner (although I may take Blue Mage up one day).

I think so. It's a pretty decent weaponskill. Solo dark is invaluable. Plus then you could get any of the mythic WSs without major hassle for your other jobs - some weren't great to begin with and others haven't aged amazingly well, but a few have use, and I'm a completionist so I had no choice really.

There's also the consideration that the dev team has brought up the possibility of adding more Nyzul in some of their talks way back when. And also the likelyhood of upgrading Salvage gear soon via magian or synergy - may extend to Nyzul drops as well. If they want to encourage people to do more mythics enhancing Nyzul seems like a necessary step. You never go wrong with getting stuff complete in this game. I still can't believe there is a Fiat Lux atma.

Plus Nyzul is fun, yo.

Agreed. Stringing Pummel, Ascetic's Fury, Drakesbane, Leaden Salute and Atonement come to mind quickly as WS that are still very good at 90cap. The first three are crit WS, which are great when using crit atma in Abyssea (though SP/Drakesbane are also very effective without Atma).

Ascetic's and Leaden Salute are particularly intersting in that both were sort of afterhoughts pre-Abyssea, but are actually considerably improved today just due to the nature of Abyssea. For Ascetic's, the crit nature of the WS makes it THE go to WS for non-Empyrian MNKs in Abyssea. For Leaden, the ability to enhance damage with MAB/AGI Atma makes it arguably the best non-Empyrian Marksmanship WS for COR (good option if not meleeing and using Evisceration).

Brew stats are fixed to 999, so Minikin does nothing for you. Also, the INT -> MAB relationship you're using was only a rule of thumb for level 75 BLMs using Tier 4s.

You're best off using Baying Moon, Gales, and Smiting Blow. If you don't have Gales, use Beyond. The biggest thing is to make sure his wings are down (so he doesn't absorb damage) before you brew.

If you have a 100 TP Bonus dagger and no Martial Knife, Smiting Blow is definitely your second best Atma (best is Gales).

The augmented daggers you can purchase with Dom Ops notes will carry you quite a while. I made a pair of evasion magian daggers and have been very pleased with them. I'd say get to 95 on the dom ops daggers, merit, then make your evasion kila +3s. And I would recommend two of them; I'm firmly of the opinion that evasion is the god stat of ffxi.

After a lot of playing around, I have settled on rr/gh/vv as my default atma set. My reasoning here is that rr/gh is the standard for dancer, and dancer is the most versitle tp user in the game. VV gives tons of tp through two of it's traits and that is how I like to play the job. This is not the only way to play it.

Razed Ruins is the most important, Gnarled Horn is the second most important. After that it's a matter of preference with Voracious Violet (my choice), Siren Shadow (attack/evasion), Cloak & Dagger (acc/evasion), Apocolyse (triple attack, reraise 3, quick magic), and even Sanguine Scythe (crit damage, hp +20%, enmity+) being choices I see.

One thing I do want to put out there: get the merit abyssites. DNC max hp is terribad for the hard NMs. I've just barely died too many times to count. At least one hp+% atma should be picked up as well, if you plan to take on the hard stuff solo/tanking. Personally, I plan to try out Impregnable Tower. I'm thinking that the Magic Acc will help stick Violent Flourish.

As a final note, I don't have Sanguine Scythe. But the more I think about it the more interested I am in trying it.

I just got my DNC from 70-78 in a party last night and realized that my dagger skill is somewhere between terrible and horrible. Where is a good place for me to go and skill that up, and any tips on a way to do it quickly? Food, gear, style? Thanks!

The Thalassinon at and around F-5? I have Mounted Champion. Maybe that with VV and GH would be enough?

And thus why you would need all the regen. I understand. If I'm getting back 50HP-ish per tick and not getting hit much I don't really have much to worry about, and can leave things on it's own. Thanks!

That's exactly what happened between the first and second. I got there and pulled one to the side, went up around 30 skill points in dagger AND in eva before I killed it then went to grab another and they were all IT.
Still all things being even, not a bad gain in one shot.
