I havnt thought about this in a while but ran passed Leila (is that the DNC quest npc?) and it reminded me i have this nagging need to beat her Dancer-a-Dancer.

I'm 85 now, does anyone know if i go fight her if its capped? or does she get my new abilities? or will i run circles around her with merits and being 85 now? Any help would be appreciated before i go in there all cocky and get my tiara handed to me lol

The limit break fights always stay at the same level regardless of what level you are going in.

Still, it might be a good idea to be ready for anyting. Underestimating your opponent is the #2 cause of defeat.

Carelessness is #1.

A DNC test dropped the other week while I was working on a magian trial so decided I might as well give it a shot. It was uneventful, she barely put up a fight. (I was 85)

I'm pretty sure the #1 cause of defeat in FFXI is just being horribly outclassed. This is a math-based game, after all.

But yeah. Fight's easy at 75+. I imagine it would be pretty rough at 70 with no merits, as some of the WSs Leila hit me with did mildly alarming damage, but it was nothing I couldn't handle at 75. Higher than that, you'll smoke her in nothing flat.

I've heard native dual wield and two behemoths makes it a lot easier than the old days.

oh i totally forgot about native dual wield haha
here i was debating which dagger to use.
I was just wondering like does she get NFR and merits and things that i unlocked since they're suppose to "copy" you.
Hmm i'll totally woup her now. I just want the title lol

Be aggressive on the fight. Use tp on ws and burn trance to cure yourself (tp better used on ws instead of curing, just save the trance part until your hp is in need), otherwise you'll get in a loop of curing yourself over dmg and waste time (like soloing hard stuff). I noticed she used building flourish for her dancing edges, which would hit for around 400-500dmg, used quick steps every chance, landed desperate flourish, etc. She can also decide to just spam dancing edge like maat would spam asuran fists if you take too long though, so be serious.

I didn't take it seriously when I derped around at 80 for this and simply took too long. She did 4 DE back to back and that was it (I cured in between and one was weak, though it did skillchain on me lol). This wasn't very long after I engaged, maybe 3 minutes or so, most of that time toward the end spent curing. She will soon have good acc against you due to gravity and quick steps and will deal fairly high dmg on you for a dagger swing. Uses dnc abilities semi-intelligently though gives you a break in only using curing waltz 1 instead of higher versions, but will spam it.

/inhales. Wow, I didn't know this myth was still around. The G5 fights, whether Maat or the AU or Wings fights, are set prior to your entry. They don't copy your gear, they don't copy your merits. (I've done WHM!melee a couple times and never saw a difference.)

Look at it this way - worst came to and the game glitched and Laila got Fan Dance? You'd still be able to school her, since the AI in this game? Not so much.

Sorry about the slight derail, but has anyone who tried this fight at 70 found a good way to cap daggers? I have been through the bestiary looking for EM mobs at 70 to wack on, but am not coming up with a great option. Thanks!

OK, never mind. It turns out capping dagger skill was not necessary. SE turned this fight into a total joke with native dual wield.
