From what little I've read about Bastion, it looks like it will be much better xp than Campaign when they get the bugs worked out. Has anyone tried it with DNC? Any insight into what has worked well and what hasn't worked so well, especially relative to Campaign? Also, will I just get destroyed if I try it any lower than 75 or so? I have no trouble hitting cap for my medal in Campaign as a 66 DNC/WAR, but hear AoE's in Bastion are really nasty and I will eat a lot of dirt. Thanks!
Bastion is actually not as DNC-friendly as you might think; battles come and go very quickly and you don't get an opportunity to build much TP. This is a problem because AoE damage is pretty generous and you might unluckily die before you get enough TP to cure yourself. /WHM or /SAM will be really helpful for anyone doing it.
I would not recommend it at 66, but the XP is so generous that your high vulnerability might not matter very much.

It wouldn't work. Low levels in bastion in melee range will just get slaughtered by the aoe spam mobs. Maybe if you try going /mage and enfeeble and/or cure from a distance it might work. I never tried that best I could say is give it a shot.

Thanks guys. I did toy around with it a bit. Subbing WAR it's just a total no-go at 66 for the reasons you list. After five or six battles, I'd say I've averaged 200-300 xp per fight, but have only died from AoE spam once. Really not a good use of stones IMO. I may try again around 68-69 and try subbing SAM for meditate, as I have nothing to really build TP on in Abyssea. Back to Campaign for me.
I gave it a shot as DNC/SAM in the Vunkerl Inlet zone. In 2 waves I ended up with about 7k exp. I did this: had 300% tp, was standing there ready...ran at the little Circular mobs, Sekkanoki > Evisceration > Meditate > Dancing Edge > Reverse Flourish > Evisceration and that would pretty much kill the mob. Battle would end, and then about i'd get about 3-4k exp for 3 ws's.

Dancer is actually really really good at Bastion if you ask me, you just cant really WS lol. SAVE THAT TP! Unless a mob is about to die because AOE is brutal. And dont try and solo anything bigger than you lol The highest i can go without getting creamed is the giant robot dolls, butlers or custodians or whatever. But the big chariots, screw that lol

Sure you can ws. What you can't really do is sub anything besides NIN and keep fan dance up.
I switched to always using Aeolian Edge. Damage as many mobs as you can and I easily maximize exp. You can average 5-12k per battle.
You can solo them to except maybe the chariot but then again I can never really get hate because it's on npcs and I just avoid it.
I really want to underscore that while there are ways you can approach Bastion that can maximize your XP/attack, the amount of XP you stand to lose out on by screwing up (since dying basically means you're out of the fight even if you reraise because literally every AoE in there will one-shot a weakened player) means playing conservatively is always going to be the preferable choice even if the aggressive player will occassionally get lucky.

Interesting. I just tried using a dusty wing and tossing a few curing waltzes to NPCs. 30 second battle netted me 866 XP. I mostly stood outside of AoE range. This seems to have some promise.
i wish i could post this to all job threads at once, every job will be good at bastion, IF...IF....IF...WHEN people actually do it. Right now its growing but people arent doing the missions to make the Rooks stronger so missions last for like a minute, if that. Once they do and fights last than DNC will shine, as it does in everything :D
Fan Dance is awesome for AoE Spam.
Self healing is meh. Usually you get to little TP considering the damage you take. But if you ddo kill a couple of mobs before they destroy the martello it is worth it.
It isnt a bad job to be on bastion. But it will get murdered before 75.
