What makes DNC fun at 75?Follow

Ok, I'm hitting my DNC mid-life crises at lvl 57. I am enjoying my new Chocobo Jig ability, but otherwise just sort of grinding along as dnc/bst at many of the old BST camps (my bst is 75). Exp is coming in good enough that I'm not complaining there... but I am starting to wonder what I will use DNC for when I get to 75.

So what is it that you most enjoy about having DNC at 75? I do a lot of little things in small groups... camping various NMs, ENMs, Nyzul, etc. Will I be useful as a DNC doing things like that?

I have BLM and BST at 75 already, so I guess I am looking for a compliment to those jobs - but at this point I'm feeling like I should cut my losses and start back on RDM (which is to be my next job).

I guess I originally pictured DNC being awesome in small groups of people (2-6) taking on hard fights. Thinking of things like duoing Behemoth with a nin/dnc and dnc/nin, for example

I enjoy that I can walk through most zones and go toe to toe with the majority of the mobs there, with no fancy kiting or sleep/nuke like you'd do on BLM, or pet juggling like a BST. I can just walk up, and start stabbing.

When you get dancing edge you'll be able to do either some dd or some support whenever you choose. Before then it feels like dnc can only do some debuffing and curing since dagger ws before DE are not worth using.

If you decide to you can make dnc your curing job whenever you need it instead of either cure3 whoring on blm or forcing yourself to lvl rdm if you didn't want to lvl it (my excuse anyway heh).

I've used it for assaults, dynamis, limbus, meriting, and other random stuff. Easily my favorite job to merit with now and great for small pt stuff like assaults or nyzul climbing. At least, after playing pld, war, and drk for so long it's a bit refreshing since it's so different yet easy for me to play.

Thanks for the replies. I have a question about TP. Most of the time I'm a bit nervous to blow my TP on a weaponskill. Does this change at 60? I understand dancing edge will do better damage than now, but still, going to 0 TP multiple times during soloing seems either risky, counterproductive, or both.

Reverse flourish helps you here. You'll get into a groove of step and RF usage once you get DE as it's great for dmg in exp/merits/random stuff. A 4FM RF after a ws brings you back to being able to waltz immediately, but it is about assessing the risk and deciding for yourself when it's right to ws and when it's better to hold back and cure.

That's part of what makes the job interesting to me but the decision is ultimately on how you and your pt are doing. You use what's necessary since dnc's waltzes are very powerful when you need them but you shouldn't toss away any DD potential since it certainly has it with how fast it can create tp.

Remember when you got that first Waltz and were drunk with power until you outgrew it. Well that'll happen again at 70 and there won't be enough levels left to outgrow that one ;)

What would be nifty is the ability to only use 100TP on a weaponskill and save the remaining TP... like when a sam uses their 2hr I guess (only without the instant 300% tp).

Also, I don't see the point of keeping DNC out of the A range for Dagger skill. Its not like we would be overpowered, or deprecate THFs, if we had an A level dagger rating.

I think I'm just pumped about the job still, but as I grow in levels it leaves me feeling like DNC has so much more potential than SE is currently allowing.

I dunno, I'm around the same level as you (hit 58 last night) albeit XPing the job in a static party with LS folks. Personally I've been having a great time with the job so far, despite needing to blow most of my TP keeping our MNK/WAR cured (then again, that's part of the reason I'm playing DNC in that static).

While I wouldn't disagree that the job has its limits...don't they all? Dagger skill limit is sort of combined with Accuracy Bonus to put things at a pretty similar level to THF. Actually, especially considering that you get .9 ACC per point past 200...22ACC from the trait gives more than the 13 skill difference would (at 75 anyway). To me, that seems more like they want to throttle the DD capacity by keeping ATT lower while still allowing for a decent hit rate for TP gain.

It could get more, but there's a good amount to work with as it is too. Part of what makes it interesting is making the most of what you have within the confines.

Personally one of my favorite parts of dance is the fact we can go anywhere. so many jobs have trouble getting around. Mainly its a lack of sneak and invis, thus they need to blow money on pots and oils.

Other great things about dancer is we never have to rest. In fact most of the time resting is a bad idea due to tp loss.

Lets' see... We can't be interrupted, all our spells/moves are instant cast.

Chocobo jig is just hot.

It seems like most of the dances we get, its like we got them 5 levels too early. Our cures are way over powered, but on the flipside the emnitty build is pretty intense. which cna be a good thing if your tanking.

Many other jobs get aggroed by a DC in a dungeon and think "oh sh*t i'm gonna die"

Dancers think "oh hey, wonder if he drops anything good..."

We're the ultimate solo job, I'd say bst but if you think about it technically beastmasters aren't soloing... =P

Long version:

I was helping a friend skill up dagger in Kuftal near the fishin' hole today. He's a THF61 so I'm there to make sure he doesn't get eaten. We're fighting a worm when we aggro a raptor. I switch targets to fight the raptor while leaving him to finish the worm. While I'm fighting the raptor another pops and links. So now I have a worm and 2 raptors hitting me. I pop Fan Dance and continue poking away. My friend gets hit by Sandspin and ACC down so he can no longer hit the worm. I switch targets again and DE the worm. One down. Meditate, NFR, RF, TP restored. I turned back to the first raptor and finished it off. Swtiched to number 3 and BF/DE'd it a minute later.

Short version:

I like that DNC can play so many roles at once and can switch back and forth with ease. DD, healer, it's all the same to us :D

Fan Dance+Animated Flourish+Trance+Curing Waltz over n over n over n over
Rather than the whole party wiping. I die.
