Soloing/Tanking Campaign Mobs at 70Follow

#1 Mar 24 2009 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
Does anyone have at tips on soloing or tanking campaign mobs at 70? I keep reading how this is so easy to do once you get Curing Waltz IV. I lasted a few minutes on an orc, but I eventually started taking more damage than I could heal, especially with the waltz cooldown timer. Do I need to focus on an evasion setup or anything special? I was using optical hat and scorpion harness at the time.

orc,

When they have counterstance up, it's better not to hit them at all.
Their counter is stronger than their normal attack, as if they were all crit hit.

Other than that, just wait at 75 for Eva bonus III and Closed Position merit.
Campaign mob are decently accurate anyway.

Your headed in the right direction with your gear, though I'd need to know what your subbing. Assuming its /ninja macro in any haste gear you have for your utsu macros and save a finishing move for violent flourish so you can get your shadows up. If your having trouble landing stun you can use stutter step. Try to keep steps up as much as possible so you can always rely on reverse flourish and having enough TP to survive.

Stick with Waltz 2 and 3 only use 4 for emergencies(blood red HP). Using smaller tier's conserves TP, and you don't have to worry about the recast.
As for Samba's Drain Samba for when your low on HP and Haste Samba for when your health is fine to do more DoT and gain more TP.

Dont waste time on /nin in campaign that's less exp both from taking/curing damage AND lost DD trying to get shadows up. Have some guts and go /war like i did, pop defender and all is well.

And like someone said already, orcish counterstance is trouble. You want good beginner mobs go fight some quadav campaigns. I'm the one that made those posts about soloing campaign mobs so i know what im talkin about, you can do it! ;)

When i started at 70 i didn't have a dedicated EVA setup yet so it shouldn't be required, though it will help a little im sure. I was just using cobra gear with either SH or Rapparee depending on the situation.

What ratty said. Defender is sweet. Counterstance is murder, so Quadavs are probably the best choice. If you fight Yagudo, then I'd say go /SAM and keep Meditate around for when they disarm you and reduce your TP to 0.

EDIT: Depending on how much damage you're taking and how much TP you're generating, you may be better off spaming Waltz III instead of IV, due to the recast on IV being sooo looong.

Spam Curing Waltz 2, avoid MNK mobs...Yag BRDs and SMNs are really squishy and don't hit all that hard. I always sub SAM in Campaign for the emergency Meditate.

Edit: Shadowfang Voids don't really cast spells when engaged in melee in my experience, and don't hit particularly hard or fast. I tanked three in Fort Karugo-Narugo for lotsa xp :D
