In light of the recent news of changes coming for Role Reversal and Ventriloquy, I'm curious as to the effectiveness of these two abilities in the level 99 climate.
First a bit of background, my current merits are 5/5 Optimization and 5/5 Fine-Tuning. I can't say I've ever really felt a great need for either Role Reversal or Ventriloquy since the revision to the automaton AI when the Lvl cap was finally raised to 99; however, I also can't say I engage in many major events with PUP outside Abyssea. I'd like to hear what other PUPs think about the utility of these abilities at level 99, love em, hate em, etc, and why. Although I like the prospect of being able to swap HP, TP, and enmity with my automaton every 3 mins or less, I still wonder if its worth giving up 2 merits in Fine-Tuning.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, strategies using the abilities or just some other good reason as to why or why not they are worth the loss of extra automaton stats.

Honestly I don't know how Pups play without them. They have so many solo applications. Of course I haven't done any VW with Pup so my view might be a little biased. Here is an example of how i use each:
Vent + Valor and /nin + Role Reversal
While soloing I use it to time my shadows if the mob is hitting fast enough through my shadows before my timers are up. I'll SP > Vent so the mob turns to Valor then recast shadows then wait till vent timer is up and hit Vent > Repair/Dark Maneuver for Cannibal > Role Reversal, so that Valor gets his HP up and I am full HP. Rinse and Repeat as necessary.
I know that's pretty specific but it allows me to solo faster with valor than with Rdm/Whm/Blm
I also use RR to fill up a Deus'd Whm/Rdm frame then DaD it to full to heal me. Yea i could waste Oils but why? Occasionally ill RR to fill my HP up then pop and oil to regen the puppet.
Once again I've tailored their uses for my play style, and your experience may vary.

I never use either, but i am always /war with a whm to heal and haste me so i never really worried about either of those 2 skills.

That's pretty much what I use them for. Vent hate onto myself after a big nuke if I'm in a group of mages so I can kite instead of the squishies. RR as an extra heal for me or my puppet. DEA->Vent->Deactivate hate dumping. There's all sorts of handy sh*t that I use RR/vent for. I couldn't play pup without them. Ok, I could, but not without bitching and moaning the entire time that I didn't have them

ITT: Anza still pissed that they changed Vent to no longer claim unclaimed mobs, was PUP's only native claiming tool...

Generally I'll use Role Reversal as an emergency cure, usually for myself.
Vent has all sorts of little quirky uses. Dump hate off myself then deactivate/re-activate the puppet, completely getting rid of all that hate. Blast away with a big puppet nuke (or Armor Piercer) then vent hate onto myself, sometimes to just let the puppet stay out for another nuke (or keep meleeing/WSing) and not pull hate from a tank. If I want to tank, opening a fight with a big puppet nuke or WS and then using Vent to staple hate to myself is quite effective, throw in a master WS and it's HARD to pull that mob off you. It's especially nice as PUP/NIN. Sometimes I'll pull hate with a big master WS and then just dump it onto my puppet if it's a dangerous mob that I don't want to risk eating a JA, Hundred Fists, whatever (automaton sacrifice!).
