confused on the upgrades to lv10, 20, 30...Follow

I started PUP today and got it to level 10. I am now heading to white gate to get my first upgrade to Stormwaker. What has me confused is the following.. When i hit level 20 and come back for my second upgrade, will I be upgrading Stormwaker or simply getting the other type of frames like ranger and tank?

What I dont want to happen is go into my 2nd upgrade, and not know that I had an opportunity to make my stormwaker i picked up at level 10 stronger. So how exactly does this work? once I get the frame I am pretty much set with it? so do I just get the other frames I am missing or do I upgrade the current one?

Thanks

Every ten levels, you have the option of making one frame from the choices of the stormwaker, sharpshot, or valoredge frame. Once you make a frame, you can only choose one of the frames you haven't made for 20, and at 30 it's the last frame.

If you make stormwaker at 10, you can only choose from sharpshot or valoredge at 20.

You never upgrade and make frames stronger.

if i can ask one more question regarding the attachments. Once i buy them and learn them.. I can at will remove them from frames and reinsert them later? Hoping I don't have to re-buy it each time I want to test a build out..

After initial purchase and install, attachments are much like PC spell scrolls in that the spells learned from said scrolls are permanently attached to that character. In this case the 'PC' is the automaton and the 'scrolls' are the attachments.

If you've played Blue Mage, it's kind of similar to that. The attachments go into a list, and you can change them around on your automaton whenever it isn't currently activated. So like scrolls, you just need them once to have them forever, and they are forever customizable.

Awesome I bought a couple but turns out I can't even get my automaton. The NPC at the store accepted all my level 10 items + 3 silver coins and keeps saying my automaton is not ready come back later and have some tea at a store.. its been 5 in game days and he still doesn't give me my automation.. this has me super annoyed..

Sharpshot at 10. Stormwaker at 20. Valoredge at 30.

Seriously. Do them in that order, or you'll be kicking yourself later when you have to catch up sharpshot's ranged skill an extra 10-20 levels (it REALLY sucks)

Standard 75 cap wisdom that probably isn't as important these days. In current FFXI, you're going to get exp much faster than skillups anyway at any level, so I don't think it really matters much any more - you're going to have to spend some time skilling up the puppet no matter what. I'd still say save VE for 30 since both other frames have melee skill.

Personally, I'd say it's more a question of what you plan to do more - party or solo/lowman. If you plan to be in exp parties, go for Sharpshot first since it's the standard exp party frame choice at any level. If you plan to do more solo or lowman content, go Stormwaker and start getting more magic skill (so it can cure you).

It's true that ranged skill is a bit harder to skill up, but it's hardly impossible to delpoy the thing at range and let it shoot on appropriate level mobs. The new skillup rate changes, plus Percolator, make it a great deal easier than it once was.

Besides, OP has already asked for the puppet so he's gonna have to deal with what he gets ;) Seems he picked Stormwaker, so I'd say don't worry too much. Grab Sharpshot at 20 though. FWIW, I did VE->SW->SS back in the OLD days (the REVERSE of the common wisdom answer), and although I needed a little extra ranged skillup time it wasn't even THAT bad back then. You'll survive no matter what.

I remembering paying 1.5-2mil gil for Attuner and Target Marker... Selling like 3 Attuners for 4k each in the past week made me sad. I also remember soloing most of my mid level exp with Harle head/Storm body curebot, and getting excited when I could do Pulling the Strings every 5 days largely because of the 2k EXPERIENCE POINTS. Damn kids these days have it easy!

Also, welcome back Jinte!! I was gonna say that earlier but I had some fear that Jinte was here all along quietly (yeah right) beyond my notice and I'd make myself look dumb ;)

Hey everyone! I am the OP of this thread and its been a couple weeks since my posted. Just a quick update on my pup :) I have been doing only FOV and no GOV whatsoever, I really want to skill up and learn the class slowly. Currently sitting at PUP46/NIN23, mainly doing page 2 in eastern altepa and at a staggering slow pace. At 40 I decided to get whitemage head rather than the blackmage one, I feel that once I started to use soothsayer or whatever its called, my DPS just hit the floor... I decided to go back to stormwaker head for the bit of DD helps so much. Also it seems that whitemage head waits FOREVER to heal me, where my stormwaker head heals quickly and doesn't let me drop way to low.

My main problem right now at 46 is just trying to speed up my kills a bit. I tried using ranger and its way to hard to deploy so it can range or he runs up and starts to melee and just overall gets hate to fast. The bright side of this is 4 more levels I can get blackmage head but then I need a tactic for me to not get hit since i dont have any easy heals.

Thanks for all the info thats my update.

Definitely recommend it. I used it a bit whenever I. solo'd back in the day. And also, someone probably forgot to mention that Soulsoother doesn't really come into it's own until it gets cure V. However, they both have the same cure priority, unless you have different attachment set ups that for whatever reason find your soulsoother lacking damage gauge/optic fiber while your stormwaker has it/them. Unless you're fighting something that likes to spam status debuffs, because if you are, soulsoother's just gonna getcha killed. SE's awesome at programming, so it prioritizes -na's over cures Smiley: motz

If you're not fighting something DC+, you won't get regen. Once you get Regen II/III and Cure V, soulsoother really comes into its own. Also, there's not really any reason to pup/nin while you're soloing. Until you hit Cure V, both Stormwaker and Soulsoother are able to keep you alive while /war and in full DD (read: no evasion) gear, which significantly ups your kill speed. Within a few levels of when you get cure V (it varies from player to player), you'll probably need soulsoother to keep soloing /war.

I got your joke, I was just inverting the continuation of the "back in my day" meme for realism and lulz. Don't forget; no matter how nice I may seem, I'm still a troll at heart, and I do thoroughly enjoy @#%^ing with people if they give me the chance. Note: Jinte brand humor almost always carries a very sarcastic bite, and correction of statement jokes, when based on silly things, are not intended to be insulting.

The funny thing is, as you and many people have noticed what I said with 'jesting', that wasn't my actual intention. I say funny things like that, and would say things like "I jest" instead of "I'm kidding" in normal situations. People often comment that I have a particularly strange way of talking, though correct. People make fun of me for using words like 'shall' too. /shrug

And I know you're fairly sarcastic. I enjoy your sense of humor, and reading your posts (among some other people who also have a whole mess of posts here and there).

I also liked your post about being trans. I know I had seen you go from professor -> lady at some point, and I thought I recalled seeing you were trans, but I wasn't sure. I have a lot of respect for trans people. It's something difficult to come to terms with. I get very angry with people who are disrespectful to trans people.

I'm actually working on my master's in mental health counseling, and I think I want to work with trans people, specifically support groups and such. I think trans people are treated terribly in america, and I want to help them. I want to help the LGBT community also, and perhaps some other minorities, and women. And addictions. Addictions will be fun...

Anyways... continue to write more posts, so that I can read them =) I really like reading a lot of Anza's posts too. And no matter where I look, Fynlar is there too

Side not on a point the conversation hit a while back- I got SW, then SS, then VE, and felt it worked well enough. Pup wasn't my first job though, so I was able to run around drk/pup at 20 to skill my puppet up (yes, your automaton can get skillups /pup, though it's also of course half-level. Just feel it's worth noting as to my knowledge pup is the only job ever that can get any skillups as a subjob)

It's because, techniquely it is your automaton skilling up not you. Working in a similar manner to an npc.

Yeah, figured it was worth pointing out though. And do npcs actually skill up? I thought they just automatically had all skills capped for their level, but then again I haven't used mine in ages.
