I quit playing FFXI in August of 09 with a 72 Pup and all of the attachments at the time. Since then i tried to start playing in April, found my account was hacked, so went through the petition process, got my account back, but found my character stripped, on another server with a different name. I requested a game data recovery, (which terms of service states it takes 38 about 1 week), but currently i am still waiting for said game recovery, it will be almost three months since i requested the recovery without any news.

I went onto the chat and asked whats going on, and they say its still under investigation, but i can cancel it if i want. I am getting so sick of waiting i'm thinking of just ******** the data recovery and starting to play the character exactly how it was when i got it back, naked, except for the original 54 attachments. How important/hard is it to get money these days? Can a pup without any gil starting off in just af/with the expensive attachments be able to come back and get all the gear/important items i need. I heard you can get fairly good money in abyssea, but im not sure i could get any groups at level 72 with only AF, and i also don't know how the abyssea time thing works, because i will buy the collection as soon as i cancel the recovery.

So pretty much if i do cancel the recovery i will have to pay the $38 the guy who hacked my account built on my account, plus april-july's fees without being able to play at all. Or i can keep waiting for the recovery, which could finish next week, or take 3 more months, but they would refund me the $38.

After waiting for so long i wouldnt mind sucking up the $38, and i would also have to pay 25$ to transfer to my original server, or i could wait for the recovery and get the 4 million gil back i lost.

So wait and get 4 million gil back, or stop it and start naked, how hard is it to make that much money these days?

Sorry for the long post, i'm still debating over it in my head, i just really freaking miss skippy, and want to play around with all the cool new things pup has gotten in the past few years.

So I've been debating whether to come back to the game for the past year. 1.5years ago I sold my 72 puppy that had all the attachments that I had spent a ton of gold and time on, and the account also had 4 million gil and it sold for 100. After selling it I have checked ffxiah for my character and all my mules but no one with my characters name on any server has bought or sold anything since my last sale in 2009, I've been thinking that the guy bought my account solely for the gil, which was worth the 100th at the time. My question is would it be worthwhile to just start over again and try to go with pup with all the changes they made or should I try to get my account back? If tanquilizers and economizers sold more often I would he more inclined to start over, but having my account sit dormant is pretty tempting, how easy is it to start from scratch these days?

What do you guys think?

I think that if you're willing to sell your account to RMT and most likely buy gil as well, we probably wouldn't want you back unless you make sure to respect the FFXI community by not doing either this time around.

Well it really comes down to whether you can be patient enough doesn't it?

If you wait for the account rollback, you are up the full $100 you sold your account for plus all your gear/gil. If you can't wait for the rollback, your still up $37(which you could prolly put toward your next RMT order, which can tide you over a bit i guess.) and can play right away.

Either way, meh-its your choice. Pick one.

Either way SE gets the $100 of me, i had to pay the $38 the dude that bought it built up on the account + April-Julys monthly fee while the recovery is in progress, so either way im already out 90$, and to transfer my character to my original server would be more than i made, which wouldnt bother me too badly karma wise.

I was pretty desperate for money at the time and put it up for alot less than it was worth to try and get money for an engagement ring, as well as showing my then girlfriend who had never played videogames in her life a sign of goodwill that i was commited to her. I wish i had just cancelled the account and saved it until we were married and established when she wouldnt judge me for playing an MMO. Either way i regret the decision, would take it back if i could and feel that sacrificing 3 months of waiting and giving SE $100 in extra fees kinda balances things out.

Sorry puppetmaster/ffxi community, everyone makes stupid mistakes. Thanks for the response Dustin. Oh and just FYI i didn't buy gil either, all the money i made was from UO with my 40 blu, and my obsessive compulsive way of dealing with the AH to make as much money as possible.

Sincerely, Fantus

Well, it seems like you probably don't suck at making money (In game at least :P), and if you have all the old attachments, you're probably ok for the most part. There are 8 new attachments you'd be missing, 4 of which can be bought with ISP (5k each, you probably have enough for all 4), and the 4 newest ones, which so far have been found to drop from Ob and grounds of valor caskets. Currently people are way overcharging on the new ones, so I'd just farm 'em or do without until the price goes down to a sane amount. None of them sound too amazingly revolutionary, except possibly the barrier module, and that's just for valoredge, really.

This week's update gave a big exp boost to Campaign (example, I got over 8k exp in one 30min battle on 75DNC this week), so you can easily campaign to get exp and work on 78 while building Abyssea stones. Stones will give you time in Abyssea, and once you start the Abyssea expansions you will automatically build up more stones over time. Once you do hit 78 and have a little Abyssea time banked, Aurore set (lv78 gear) is super cheap and is very solid as a set to hold you over until getting Cirque+1 pieces. At that point you'll be around the level when it's easier to get into Abyssea exp alliances and you can easily get 90 in no time plus work on merits and build cruor.

You can also work on farming new attachments which drop in treasure caskets, in zones where you can also get respectable exp from the Grounds of Valor books.

Outside of a few luxury pieces, money really isn't that important these days for a lot of jobs - including PUP, since our good gear is mostly R/E anyway (e.g. Cirque armor/accessories, magian weapons like fire path Taipan Fangs +2, etc) and our need for gil to buy consumables/spells is fairly low. You'll just want to farm the newer attachments yourself instead of paying inflated AH fees for new items.
