I'm not paying that either, but sadly someone will, I'm afraid.

I'm determined now to start gathering points and spam as many Obs as possible. With some luck, it can drop all the new attachments, and I won't have to bother with the AH.

It wouldn't be farfetched to say that Ob does drop all 4 as 2 reports on the official forums reported Vivi Value and Perculator dropping from Ob. A small sample test has been done on Perculator.

The Improvements were definitely not "WTF OMG AWESOME", but they were definitely noticeable. In the ~40 minutes or so toying with it i gained i think 3 whole skill levels. I saw a lot of +0.3's and higher, a few 0.1's still.

It sped things up significantly, Its still a tad slow for my taste, but it is a large improvement.

Tested with the Melee frame, have not tried RNG or Mage frames yet.

I can also confirm Barrier Module dropping, I saw it personally today when I fought him with some friends. There is also a picture on FFXIAH of Ob dropping a Disruptor http://static.ffxiah.com/images/ss/mid/OJ7Tds1rkHv43eR1.jpg so I'd say it's confirmed 4/4

You forgot to mention how it silenced the Skeleton Warriors who cast no spells because they have MP (DRK or something I assume?). :P

Just remember folks they changed NPCs to stop casting silence on beetles and things a long time ago, and not PUP. Working as intended if I ever saw it!

Naturally. Though that was mostly for people who were hopeful that the attachment affects AI. Given, what I did wasn't very thorough; so I would still encourage somebody to play around with the attachment—though I do doubt one will get different results from the AI.

id probably pay

50k for dispel (since i have pocket whm that can cast it on command, with maneuvers, and without consuming a 20 sec cast time, since im assuming its a spell and wont work on ss/ve)

100k for percalator (since im caped in all skills)
200k for vivi/barrier

None are worth 5m lol, or even 1m

I might pay 1-5m for one that fixes blm or whm ai though....

Percolator and Barrier were recently sold for 2 mil each on Quetz. Id never pay that much.
Reminds me of when Attuner/Target Marker were highly sought after and I would sell them for 1-1.5mil each back when I did the ENM regularly.

Im waiting on these until the prices go below 100k. Id prefer to pay closer to 50k each.

LOL @ BLM/WHM AI fixes. Id pay for those too although I hope Square Enix just fixes the AI instead of giving us attachements that make them work right XD

A possible theory:

My friends and I seem to have a better attachment drop rate if we make Ob cycle all 4 Automaton Modes. We open with converting it to Mage mode, then shift it to Ranged mode, then lock it in Melee mode (higher defense so the THF can go to town proccing TH) and so far doing that we seem to have a pretty decent drop rate on the new attachments. (3/3 since first testing it out tbh)

We also believe the new attachments to be in a seperate loot table than the other 10 it can possibly drop due to their frequency comparison.

Current Drops: Barrier Module x4 Vivi-Valve x3 in roughly 15 fights

The new attachments seem to be going for 1M on the Sylph AH. I still haven't burned my Percolator yet since I'm already capped on magic and ranged. It really all depends on how easy these will be to find. I'll probably go ahead and sell my Percolator, because I think Ob is going to be pretty busy soon.

Time to start playing with that ZNM stuff, I guess. Maybe I can find a THF to help me.

PLD mobs are the primary offenders: crabs, beetles, and Rafflesia are the ones I know for sure have MP but do not cast. And of course all those wonderful silence-resistant NMs.

Anyone expecting a serious AI change from SE through an attachment from a minor update is deluding himself. Automatons will continue to have derptastic AI until SE decides to fix the base AI.

It's been a couple more hours and no luck on any attachments, I suspect that the new attachments might actually be only one-per zone, the percolator I found was also in ordelles, until someone else reports getting a different new attachment there it might be a nice place to hunt them (we have sandy boxes kupower now, so yeah.)

Try using an animator (if you lost yours you can buy a new one for 10k from ikuri-wakuri or w/e the taru pups name is) and subbing /pup. Then use your gimped automaton to put up maneuvers to change frame to what you want, and then deactivate and go to down with your pets. If I remember correctly, he stays in whatever frame you put him in until you overload or change maneuvers, so you can just change him then send your dipperyuli at him.

Just keep in mind Ob is a bit of rapage on metal legs regardless of form, so choose the frame you want to deal with wisely. I know the mage frame is squishiest but it also uses pretty nasty spells, while i think sharpshot has high evasion/ranged accuracy, and valoredge high defenses and melee accuracy.

I also fail to see how whether or not sharpshot's weaponskills can be blocked by shadows is relevant if you'd be going rng/pup. Unless all of a sudden SE gave pup the ability to cast utsusemi and no-one told me about it.

I found Ob quite an easy solo for PUP - go PUP/NIN, use soulsoother automaton, and keep Ob in Valoredge mode (I kept Light/Earth/Ice maneuvers up.) Every time you have TP, force him to go into Mage mode (replace Light or Earth with a water or dark maneuver) so he has lowered defence.

Solo'ed 2/2 so far, and never came across a problem - Valoredge Ob has very low accuracy, whereas RNG Ob's ACC is quite impressive.

Ok, I can confirm that it is possible for more than one given attachment to drop in caskets in a given zone. So you'll all recall my percolator fiasco, yes? This drove me into a blind attachment-seeking raging rampage through ordelle's caves. I just got a barrier module out of a casket, when I and others previously got percolators in this zone. So it would seem that if you opt to take the caskets route, you can just pick a zone that you like/is convenient/currently has kupowers and go to town.

In other news, I'm beginning to think the numbers to open brown caskets aren't random. If you stick to one zone long enough, you'll see the same numbers pop up a lot. Learn those numbers for a given zone and it makes things easier.

It took me over 15 hours to get a disruptor in rangemount pass. Not recomended.

I only can open about 1/5 brown chests anyways, which blows and makes me think there most be some other way to open them.

One of the numbers is a 3
The first number is odd
The first number is a 2,3,4
The combination is less then 39

1 attempt left...

The number was 35!

Like I said before, the numbers the caskets use aren't totally random. In you position, I actually would've gone for 35, as it's not uncommon, and fits the hints. Basically, obsess over caskets enough and you start to see patterns in that some numbers pop up more than others. So, try to note the numbers you see. Also, a few ones I've found to pop up most frequently are 18, 88, and 53. But yeah, it takes some time to start seeing the patterns.

Yes, the patterns, don't you see? Every fifth casket, added together and converted to hexadecimal... It's a code! ...'Help me'? Huh?

Thats a big load of bs von. Basically the only numbers it could have been were 30-38, and none is more common then the others. It is in fact random, and not a pattern. There are no common numbers that appear more often.

Usually i can weed it down to 1 of 2 numbers and i always pick the lower of the 2 out of habit, and 50% of the time its the higher of the two.

1/5 seems rather low, generally I can at least hit ~2/3, including caskets with only 5 attempts.

There are 6 possible hints:
1. First digit is Even/Odd. (Cuts possible choices to a pool of 50 max)
2. Second digit is Even/Odd. (Cuts possible choices to a pool of 45 max)
3. First digit is [3 Numbers]. (Cuts possible answers to a pool of 30 max)
4. Second digit is [3 Numbers]. (Cuts possible answers to a pool of 27 max)
5. One of the digits is [X]. (Cuts possible answers to a pool of 18 max)
6. The correct number is between [X] and [Y]. (Cuts possible answers to w/e range given)

Even on a 5 attempt box, getting the least useful clue, and then just guessing at a the halway point, you should still should be seeing better results than 1/5.

Not assuming that you actually played out that scenario, but in this specific situation, it's played out very incorrectly, it's almost always a bad idea to take more than two hints, especially with a five-guess box. The first clue by itself eliminates around 80% of the guesses. From that clue alone, the worst possible chance you have at opening the box should be 1/2, on a good second clue, you might even be able to bump it to 100%. Now in the example given, the second clue is largely useless (the worst possible clue in that situation), and that of course can happen. It's just a matter of knowing what possible choices you have left, and the guess most likely to remove the most answers.

Personally, I almost always stop at 2 hints, very rarely 3. I get a pretty good success rate going with that.

All I can say is that when I started paying attention to what numbers I saw come up, it seemed to be a -dramatic- improvement to my rate of successfully opening caskets. And technically, even with computers, there's no such thing as truly 'random' results. I dunno if it's a limited pool it picks from or a flaw in the random-number generation code, but I've been doing this a lot and it really does seem to lean to certain values.

And still, I don't think there's a pattern.

The best strategy I've found is to get the first clue, and if it's either a range of numbers (e.g.: "bigger than 45 lower than 73"), or if it's a clue about three possibilities on first digit, I just start guessing, always going to the mean value of the range (that is: first I'd guess (45+73)/2 = 59, then if for example it said "lower", I'd guess (45+59)/2 = 52, etc.) This is statistically the method which gives the better success rate, although, of course, if you don't have enough attempts you'll have to choose from several numbers in your final guess. The best situation is, of course, when you first get a crappy clue (e.g: "one of the numbers is 6") and then you get a range of numbes as the second clue. That usually is enough to have a 100% or near 100% chance.

That said, I spent a whole friday afternoon, and almost all saturday afternoon and night in Zerhun Mines, with Mystery Boxes AND the level 1 casket prowess, until I left, at 1 a.m., with one Prouesse Ring (awesome), but ZERO attachments.

with mystery boxes + t5 casket prowess

In 4 days i have gotten:
1 vivi
1 barrier
1 disruptor
1 barrage turbine
1 grapevine cloak
3 koening knuckles
*edit* 1 heat capacitor (just got)

+ TONS OF sh*t (pot +3, hi pot +3, pro ether +3, high elixer, rubicon cells, cobalt cells, jade cells, xanthios cells)

+ about 13k tabs

I do page 6 in rangemount pass over and over. I use it to level my mule from 7 to 30 (takes about 40 pages), exp goes up by circa 100 a page starting at 2200 until it caps at 4500 a turn in (thus 450 tabs per day.

All in all, much less painful way to level an alt to 30.

And since someone suggested a pattern i have recorded every single number (right or wrong guess) and guess what? No pattern, completely random distribution. (n=317 and growing)
