I read in a discussion some time ago that someone got their solea off Hazmat by stopping all his flares from going off. Since then I was planning to try this strategy with my BLU.
Unfortunately the last few kills since then, head butt always missed on one of the flares. Or he would cast while i was casting something else (grr). I also was still getting no drop those times.
Point of this post is to say that tonight I finally stopped all of his flares, and boom got the drop. This could be coincidence but I think now with at least 2 reports of it dropping when all flares are stunned, it might be worth more people trying too.
Anyone else post your results with this strat so we can see if there's anything to it.

When I got my drop, I did it as THF, got Hazmat down to 1% and used Hide to drop all hate and let Hazmat unclaim (there was no competition) I then Sneak Attack and melee for killshot and got the drop. Since I pretty much "one-shotted" Hazmat, and all the Flare casts were "reset" when Hazmat lost hate and unclaimed, I believe that's what made the Solea drop.

I will be testing this out soon as well. I will probably try the thf technique, but I was also thinking of trying to allow my auto to nuke it down hateless. However, I'm not sure how long this will take and How much damage his nukes will do to him so we will see.

I'm currently 0/4 just letting my shadows eat the flares, so I may go back again as NIN/BLU and see if I can stun them all for another data point, but I have to admit to being skeptical - this sounds very like all the other hopeful theories about low drop rate items.
I think SE really does just make mobs with depressingly low drop rates, regardless of how or when you kill them.

I'm willing to bet this rumor got started because of the item name -- Promptitude Solea, as in, you better be prompt to stun all those Flares.

I decided to give this rumor the benefit of doubt because of the way the monster is designed :
1 - Immune to silence
2 - Really fast casting
3 - Does nothing but cast that spell
So it would make some kind of sense, since it almost seems like it's a mini challenge, to try and stop all the flares.
And we shouldn't give up if one person says they stopped all flares and got no drop, because it might still boost the drop to near 100% but not quite. Anyway only more testing will tell and really there's no much to lose if everyone tries to do it this way from now on.
So far it seems like +3 reports of it working (counting the first account of it I read)

Maybe birdbanes also have a quirk to make them drop. I went 1/3 on them just now, with the winning drop being when I provoked a lycopodium that was following me and watching the fight, then finished the NM off. :p
Wouldn't surprise me though if these NMs had quirks to them that made them drop more often or always. Don't forget that certain monsters already are like this, such as marids and ToAU beastmen requiring you to break their tusks/weapons with critical hits before they drop them.

It's hokum. I went 1/9 on mine. Stunned every damn Flare with WS and headbutts on Pup and Blu for first eight. I went War/Dnc after screwing around in Campaign, took three flares, got the drop. By this logic the 100% drop is if you eat every flare. Sometimes things just have bad drop rates.

I went 1/1 with TH3. Never stunned a single flare, and I ate all of them through shadows. I also went 1/4 for Birdbanes with 0 TH. No lycopodiums were following me either.
