I think they're trying to place the blame on your jobs because they don't know how to make use of them.
Ding ding ding. You don't see a lot of cookie-cutter strategies that say "6 BLM, 2 PLD, 2 WHM, 2 BRD, a PUP, and a DRG". Your leaders don't sound like they understand enough about game dynamics to utilize the tools they have if they don't fit neatly into the boring standard stuff they read from someone else's work.
You have a DRG with nice gear (Thalassocrat, AJ, Dusk gear) and 8/8 Polearm merits. They honestly have zero use for a powerful melee DD? If they have any SAM, WAR, MNK and they aren't giving them sh*t, I'd be pissed.
And PUP, while rarely the best for any particular endgame event, is also pretty much never the worst. Can you nuke as well as a BLM? No. But Tier IV elemental nukes from a merited automaton are certainly no joke, and you'll contribute a whole lot more than a non-mage on fights where magic damage is useful. Can you melee like a SAM? No again. But once again, certainly a competent DD (and hey, you can always use your DRG there too so there's not much point in even arguing about melee).
If you aren't in a shell that can accept your well-geared and well-played jobs for what they are and try to find a way to properly utilize them, you will indeed be forced into the mind-numbing boredom of repeating cookie cutter strategies and being a slave to the shell.
I understand stuff like "we have very few [insert job here], we should recruit some or if anyone wants to level it that would be appreciated". But I don't get "your two jobs are no good, level something else because we say so".
Ditch 'em now.
