It wasn't a big suprise for me about the pupetmaster. I viewed it as one of a handful of possibilities. I thought Sony might make a Necro class but in it's own style. The only reason I thought this was likely was due to the following posts.

I think SE has already hinted at necromancy in the game. If you go to norg (which seems to me, the most likely place to get to Aht Urhgan. Through the little tunnel that is guarded, and take a ship there).
In norg there is an npc name Louartain, if you talk to him he mentions how they call the souls of those lost at sea to help do the "dirty" work when they fight other ships. sounds a lot like a necromancer to me.
I'm very excited about the new jobs, but not as mains, I'm really hoping that some of them may provide some values as a subjob.

There is also an NPC in the Phomunia Aqueducts who studies Necromancing. You meet him from the Manequinn Quests from Tavnasia.
Quote:

Before the great war, a Wizard of great power lived in Tavnazia. It was said his power was so impressive even the most skilled Taru black mages feared him. After the great war he vanished, but rumor had it he hid himself deep within the Aquaducts beneath the Tavnazian Safehold. There he began the study of Necromancy.

Also from the Summoner AF story, I believe that the Taru who is causing all the ruckus is a Necromancer. Here is some examples from the History of Vana'diel (

Rukususu and Ildy-Goldy are in disbelief. "A spell of Resurrection? Bring someone back to life?!? How is this possible?" They ask incredulously.
Sitting down, Koru-Moru explains in a serious voice. "It is known as the "Legend of the Magic Doll. As we all know, when a magic doll is created, it shares a link with its creator. If the creator of the magic doll dies, the magic doll will likewise lose its magic and perish. But by that same logic, if one were somehow able to bring a magic doll back from the dead, it's creator would also be returned from the clutches of death. Of course, as far as most people are concerned, this is mere legend.

"But the truth is that this is more than mere legend and old-wive's tales. This forbidden magic really does exist, but it is only known by the Manustary Minister. The dark details of this forbidden ritual are handed down generation to generation, but it has always been a strictly forbidden practice..."

Also from the Dragoon AF quests:
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you defeat them a mysterious Elvaan Dark Knight appears. The Dark Knight plans to use his newfound necromancer powers and the helm of the last dragoon to revive his full power and take over the world.

I don't understand how so many people can deny the fact that there is Necromancing in the game already, with so many clear examples of it.

There's also another post that relates:

Notice how most of the Smn story has to do with Windurst and the Temple of Uggalepih? Well, Windurst has the Cardians, which were technically brought to life from some sort of magic. The Magic Doll thing would most likely be the Doll family. They're formed by magic and aggro magic. I could've sworn I heard somewhere that the Temple of Ugga was formed by the ancient Zilarts, who eventually became Tonberries over a long time. When you do the Rise of the Zilart missions, I'm sure it says something about it... The Dolls are mostly in the areas where the Zilarts are... Fei'Yin, Ru'Aun Garden, Delkfutt, those areas. So really, the Zilarts used their magic powers to summon the Dolls through an ancient magic that we know as Necromancy.
Again, the Dragoon AF quest about Necromancy happened in Ugga. Tonberries were once Zilarts. They became Tonberries after the war where they used too much power again Fei'Yin and it caused a huge explosion. The explosion's magical powers began to slowly warp the Zilarts in Tonberries. That's the reason why there's Dolls in there. So, that Dark Knight most likely SOMEHOW used the same powers that the Pirates in Norg use when they're on the ship to Mhaura/Selbina.
PS: I know I'm missing something about the Tonberries, there was something between the Zilart and Tonberry stage where they lost their powers, and that's why when you kill a Tonberry, no dolls die with it.
Edit: Forgot to add that the Smn use Avatars which were once used by the Zilarts to help destroy Fei'Yin and the Dolls which were being controled by the Zilarts inside. There were 2 different forces of the Zilarts, by the way. =)

I believe necromancy isn't limited to dead corpses only by sony's defintion. It is the magic that deals with the control of spirits whether it is in a doll or a dead body.
It's kind of like taking a person and dressing them in two different ways.
That's how I view the necromancer and puppet master. they just look different but function the same way. It's about the control of Spirits.
