Hi All,
Wondering when I should switch over to meleeing for TP. I have a joyeuse and need to set up a build to support it. Whilst I am predominantly a mage I have been slowly collecting melee gear for it. I have no melee skill merits yet but I could merit Sword fairly fast as RDM has access to Sword merits and obviously I'll be free to merit marksmanship when I hit 75.
I have capped sword and marksmanship at 67 and intend to keep marksmanship capped constantly (managed so far with no other marksmanship jobs!). Am I going to struggle with Racc losing my trailer's kukri if I switch to melee at 70 rather than wait a couple of levels? I have a pair of dusk legs for 72 and blood finger gauntlets for 73 so I assume I should be ok then...
I have /RNG and am nearly done with /WAR.
Current wearing for ranged tp:
AF Head/Body/Feet, Jaridah Hands/Legs, Spectacles, gun belt, Amemet+1, Vision/Beaters earrings, Shark gun + trailers kukri
I have a Diabolos' torque for 70 as well as War brais until I can wear Dusk and get some Denali Kecks. Eventually I hope to get some skadi legs.

Melee TP with a Joyeuse is alot of fun. You will really enjoy it. I also have no combat merits left to put in Sword, Dagger, or Marksmanship, but ACC and RACC aren't suffering.
I waited until 75 to camp Charby and once I finally earned a joytoy, I wished I had gotten it earlier.
It's true that COR's solid "B" Skills are sometimes problematic on NMs or endgame monsters, you should have no problem meleeing TP at 70 if you use sushi and a reasonable amount of ACC gear (Woodsman's, Swift belt, etc.) on merits mobs or mid levels bosses.

For merit situations I only have a Melee TP and WS build. I do have 2 macro sets for Ranged TP but I haven't touched those in ages.

Switch when you can equip Joyeuse. Joyeuse (or Mkris) is the most important piece in meleeing for TP.
I'd recommend pahluwan body (sp?) for your body slot in tping, although other relatively easy to get alternatives with slightly less acc (like Commodore Frac) are fine.
Generally, the rule of thumb you will want to follow when setting up a TP build is to get as much haste and acc as you can.

Well you should worry about ACC. With a B- SWD rating you are going to need a decent ACC setup even with sushi. RACC is real easy to get in big globs. Currently I'm at the point I could eat meat against merit mobs and have capped RACC. But it's my ACC that keeps me tied to sushi.
As far as when you should switch to melee for TP. When you a) get a multihit weapon, b) have slugshot (or detonator), and (less important) c) have a martial gun. At that point you can get to 100 tp quickly and have decent acc for slug.
Of course at 75 with a good damage dagger like Jambiya or Behemoths +1 and a good haste setup, you'll be able to melee for TP and do reasonably well at that point as well.

At least in merits, COR will be tied to sushi for life, I think lol. It's much easier to cap racc (more gear, plus a higher native skill) than acc. When you switch to joyeuse (which u can do at 70), you will have more acc issues than racc issues probly. At 70 you have less racc options than at 75 no martial gun yet either. You might struggle a bit 70-74 but at 75 with martial, you should be fine.
I would say I switched to Joyeuse as soon as I could equip - but in reality with the way you end up level syncing up and down like a yo-yo, and the fact that imps are more of a mob I'd like to be hanging back OUT of AOE range so I don't get amnesiaed and can't roll - I switched as soon as I was past the Mire in reality. In the Mire I very much hung back out of AOE and shot for TP still - ran in to roll... and gtfoed very rapidly.

I've picked up a Cobra Unit Harness, I have the Walmart turban, brutal, suppa, swift belt, amemet +1. I'll never have the Ulth ring as I have Balrahn's right now and I have too many mage jobs. If we get the chance to redo I might as I'm about to get an Omega ring but I do Salvage so Balrahn's is too good to be true. I have acc rings.
I don't own dusk gloves or feet yet, I guess those are things I should get soon. I have a pair of pants waiting along with my martial gun but also aiming for some p legs. At the moment I'm far better set up for RAcc than melee.
I have a good shot at relic pants - unlikely to get Barbarossa's, although I might persuade some peeps to go for em.

Honestly Eld, I'm surprised you don't have Dusk yet since I know you got RDM to 75 not too long ago. Solid for both COR and RDM :D
But yeah, I started meleeing on COR when I dinged 70, since I pulled parties up to that point (HAAAAAAAAAAATE). O Hat is a good choice for TP hat till W.Turban, and can double as a WS hat if you're worried about R.Acc as well as a TP hat for THF and NIN mobs. And while I'm sure you went WHM hat, Anwig Salade with +10 Acc +3 Haste is a solid TP hat (I went this route with the hat as I have no Usu head for PUP yet, at which point I'll swap it to a PUP WS head). A better back choice than Amemet +1 would be Cuch mantle, so if you have some gil sitting around think about picking that up too.
In terms of R.Acc, don't worry as much as you seem to be. Its very easy to approach capped Slug acc even without Martial as long as you're eating sushi and gearing appropriately.

For what? I use RDM for MMM and about once every 3 weeks for anything approaching serious :D Always on WHM, BLM or SCH. I've just used my nashira for haste on RDM and don't tend to solo on it, not my idea of fun tbh. Having way more fun on COR ;)
Pleased I now have a full set of limbus mats for my feet once I get up to the right level. Been having some fun borrowing a kris ;)

Haha, just know that you gear yourself well, figured you'd have the dusk for haste/refresh etc. Reguardless, do pick them up for COR :)
And Yeah, do either feet or head first. I did head and body first as my Skadi feet are a fine place holder for WSs till Temenos puts out for me. Feet are hella sexy though for WS and TP if you need the acc.
