I actually don't have any close friends who are decently geared on any jobs currently playing much. Unfortunately they all took breaks. And contrary to what you say above, it's a lot easier shouting up someone for an item that is a single drop or can be farmed in a single run than doing it day after day for months. I'm pretty sure I can get a ninja or a monk for one run of something, but for months of runs? No thanks.
Look, I understand that the empy sword is -the best- sword. I am not disputing that. I'm not some derp that's going to argue math with people who know better than me.
I just don't understand why folks can't actually help with the question being asked instead of going and stating the obvious. Contrary to popular belief, it's extremely obvious what most of the BEST OF THE BEST gear is. Even if not just from looking at it, but from obsessively reading this board/ffxiah/bg constantly. However people often don't talk about a host of decent gear that while it isn't the best, is certainly better than other options available.
I don't actually need anyone's help determining that an empy sword is better than the rest of them. I could use suggestions for other swords that aren't terribad and will get the job done. Mmmkay? Sort of like how when I ask how I can get full haste or close to it while wearing a toci's body, I am not asking people to tell me the NNI body is better.
I understand that in your mind, my disinterest in farming an empy means I'm either stupid or I don't take pride in my "job" - that's fine. You can judge me if it provides you some relief, some entertainment, or just cause you can't help it. I don't particularly care.
I'm just not particularly bothered about being the best. When I ask questions like this I am asking for advice in constraints. I mean, it's fine if you want to state the obvious "THE SUPER MEGA WEAPON IS BETTER THAN THIS, BUT X IS PRETTY OK" for example, but to completely ignore my actual question - which is not related to being "THE BEST" but related to "hey what gear should I shoot for, these are the events I would like to do, or I like to do"
