I am starting to level BLU and was trying to decide on something and wanted to hear some opinions on it.

How did you learn your spells? I know the mechanics in game and some of the strategies to actually learn the spells. I was wondering about when. Did you try to learn them as you were grinding and targeted specific mobs to learn them or did you level to a specific point and then go back and get all the spells you missed? With exp coming so easy I find myself leaning towards leveling to every tenth level and going back and getting the spells I missed.

Just wanting to see some opinions.

To clarify a bit, I wasn't meaning anything mechanical. I was more wondering about when did you learn spells. For instance, there are specific spells you can learn between level X and level Y. When leveling from level X to level Y, did you level in a specific manner so that you learned all those spells while leveling from X to Y, or did you just level to Y and then come back and learned all the spells you missed since X?

I am pretty sure I know what my tactic will be but I just wanted to hear some other opinions from people more experienced in this arena.

I personally don't make so much fuss people don't complete their spell list.
When leeching in Abyssea, your equipment probably get relatively weak very fast, so if you got your damage spell at X level, not long after that, it'll be complete crap because there is another and better damaging spell, which will become weak again until you reach level 99 standard.

It's better to make a list what you will find useful when your BLU is at 99 (damage spell, debuff spell, trait spells, proc spells, TP feeding spell?), then work on them whenever you got chance and before you make your debut in group activity.

Up to level 20 I tried to get everything available, just so I would have a good base to work from. Then I burned up to 35ish and went back and got a bunch of spells and skilled up blue magic/sword before burning to 60.

Then I tried to get the most useful spells which were reasonable to get and skill up sword/magic

Then I burned to 78 or something, got a few more spells and skill ups and burned to 95 in abyssea.

I still need to finish off my spells (won't take blu into a real party till I get more and skill up) but it is definitely worthwhile to take breaks between burning and get spells. You'll want decent damage dealing spells and buffs like self-haste and heals - but if you won't set it don't sweat it until you've leveled more - especially if it is one that is challenging to get near the level where you can use it.

Going on two days killing flayers and all I have to show for it is negative 7K exp... no spell

Yeah I learned in Abyssea. I got it yesterday (day 3) on my first mob...

blue magic is so random. The big problem was that the flayers almost never used it ever.

ooooh nice.

Unless the mob is insanely high level and insanely high defense, which won't happen most all the time (barring some of the mobs for the Unbridled Learning spells), the chances of you hitting for zero, even with a dmg 1 weapon, is low.
