Okay, so I've read a ton of threads on multiple forums about the best way to learn Blue Magic, and I'm still getting frustrated.
I'm raising their TP as much as possible while getting them to low HP (<%25), then turning my back to the monster and waiting (while remaining engaged with the mob) for it to use said Blue Magic then killing the mob quickly. Now I've learned a few spells (most of them up until Head Butt) but it's been taking incredibly long.
Now I'm making sure my Blue Magic skill is capped when I attempt to learn spells, and all I'm asking is am I missing anything, or is it just this difficult to learn the spells? If so, that's alright, I just hope there is a trick I'm missing!

its difficult. if you can survive easily, go blu/whm or /rdm and spam dia. this is especially useful under 25%hp due to it giving tp and doing little to no damage. its boring, requires some refresh and for you to be high enough lvl so you can drag the fight on and on but it works great for most things.

Subbing bst or smn for learning from incredibly low level mobs is a good way to feed TP. With the change to the way agi affects enemy TP gain, it's gotten pretty hard to whack on stuff, even with 1DMG weapons.

Remember to do your best to keep your skill capped as well. With how EXP works nowadays that will probably be kinda hard, but that effects if you can learn a spell or not.
Its painful at times learning Blue Magic no real tricks to it really. The basics are feed tp wait for move and kill the higher your blu skill is or capped of course helps as well as having the af hands on. I been in groups of blu farming spells where 1 learns on the first kill other not for days. It's our pain for free spells = time sink...

I found the best thing to do was to wait until the full moon, sacrifice a squirrel in my back yard, carry my lucky Wild Rabbit Foot and my Four-Leaf Mandragora Flower, waited until 05:35 to kill the mob, and then pray to Odin that maybe, just maybe, the Random Number Gods would declare this to be my turn. If it didn't, I found another squirrel and repeated the process.

My favorite thing about BLU is that there ia no way to cheat this, we all had to put in the time. Some spells will come easy and some will bring you to the breaking point, killing the same crap for over 2 weeks easily over 1k cluster bombs and stiil couldn't learn some mother Fing refueling.... but anyway. Anyway that's just blue magic for you. I find healing an enhancing spells are generally the biggest pains to learn, but sometimes it just doesn't want to work...
my friend got sickle slash on the first spider that used it... I spent hours working on it.

There's an upside here. You can level on your own to 60ish just hunting spells if you have poor luck.

Personally I liked dual wielding bells! 1 base damage means they barely tickle most mobs, so its very rare you get to the point where you need to turn your back on the mob (Unless your fighting somthing really, really, really weak).
They certainly made my spell hunting experience less tedious, and even if there are none on the AH they are a fairly low levelled synth, I'm sure you could find someone to knock you up a pair.

Retired from FFXI ....but for how long this time?
If you ensure you have your Blue Magic skill capped for you level (or at least capped for the level the spell you are trying to learn, meaning if you are trying to learn a lvl 10 spell, that your Blue Magic skill is at the lvl 10 skill cap) then just keep doing what you're doing. Once you get the AF gloves, keep them on whenever you are spell farming.
Sometimes you get super lucky and get it on the first try, other times playing BLU makes you want to claw your eyes out.
At level 30 and below I found that wearing the Destrier beret you get for buying the Abyssea ultimate collection made learning spells a joke, it never took me more than 3 mobs to learn a spell while wearing that cap.

then you are far luckier than i am. i get tons of blue magic skill-ups with my destrier beret, but i just went 1/12 at least on low lvl sheep trying for sheep song and maybe l/10 on funguar for queasyshroom. maybe i'll get a few easy ones after this now.
I found queasy to be a pain too. How was pollen for you? Because if you got that one easily the RNG gods might be taking out their frustration on you.
