I dont remember where I heard it, but somone once said somthing thats stuck in my mind ever since "Blue Mages dont evade, mobs miss". However I often hear people talking about Blue Mage Eva tanking and Blu Eva builds, and its piqued my curiosity. Yet I cant seem to find any guides, or insightful information on the subject.
Anyone here use an Eva build for anything? I'm interested as to just how effective it can be, and what its limitations are.
I mean we only have a C- in Evasion, so is it just a case of stacking as much eva gear as possible and combining it with the Eva bonus trait and spells like Warm Up? Or do we also have to rely on our accuracy lowering spells such as Sandspin, Sandspray and Acintic Burst to make it work?
I'm sorry I'm just wondering how viable an option it is, whether its worth looking into my self and what you need to get the most out of it.

The Evasive BLUFollow
Hello Zam! Long time reader,first time poster. In regards to Blue Eva tanking/soloing it's actually quite viable these days. More gear options, spells, and higher stats you can do things that weren't a possibly back at 75. I've used the following set ups to solo Briareus and the 3 lesser gigas for the ki for example. Also works great for many situations where you pull hate, or soloing old endgame like limbus. This is my current build:
2 Shamshir +2 Agi +2 Eva+20 (IMO the most important part of the set) Mavi Tathlum
Optical Hat, Evasion Torque, Suppanomimi, Velocity Earring
Aurore Doublet, Derobade Mittens, Heed Ring, Rajas Ring
Boxers Mantle, Sveltesse Gouriz, Alcides Subligar, Magus charuqs
Of course there are better options in some slots but that's what I got so far.
When soloing nms I run this spell set:
Head butt, screw driver, sub-zero smash, disseverment, quad. cont, filamented hold, auroral drape,
Actinic burst, winds of promy, animating wail,battery charge, occultation, magic fruit, and with the last 2 set points
I use either delta thrust or metallic body/cocoon depending on whether or not I want the extra defense.
In abysses I use MM,RR, and Siren shadow(only Eva atma I have ATM)

I Evasion-tank a lot of things using roughly the gearsets listed above.
Basically, you read the wikis and if a mob says that it can be Eva tanked by a THF or NIN or DNC, then a BLU can do it with the right atma and gear.
The problem is that no one believes you can do it until after you do it and you can't gear for sword damage. For example, I was tanking the Hydra in Grauberg after our NIN and WHM went down and I wasn't doing great damage, but I did solo him long enough for the NIN and WHM to unweak.
It's especially useful for soloing in abyssea. Lots of NMs are quite easy in there.

The thing with BLU eva tanking is pretty much you must choose the role from the very start. You can't switch from DD to eva tank on demand like THF, DNC, or NIN. They can simply do it with just eva gear swap.
We need to set eva atma in place of our normal DD atma to offset our evasion closer to that of THF and DNC (and it's still actually lower by 8~20 points).

Let me try to find my old guide. You don't 'need' eva atma to pull it off, it just makes it easier on occasions. For instance, I started the Briareus gang with Cloak and Dagger, GH, and MM. Once i got the swing of things, I could do RR, GH, and MM, basically only 25 evasion from the 50 agi on GH, with that added crit rate for damage. Debuffs (Blind, Slow, Paralyze, Poison) are your friend in these situations and it can be used in a variety of fights.

Take into account this is much easier to sustain when you have 10 mp/tick refresh in abyssea. If content pushes to the outside (voidwatch) this is not viable for harder content. However, old content and mobs of lower lvl can be rendered very inaccurate against it. If you are a career blu, it is definitely a set you want to look into.
