I'm probably going to wait a while for them to iron out the information after some people toy around with the job a while. I'd like to have a rough idea of what the skill caps will be like for weapons, defensive abilities etc., maybe what stats to focus on, what kind of equipment will be available. That sort of stuff. I probably won't even buy the expansion first-off, like I did with CoP.

I'm certainly going to try to unlock Blue Mage and get it up to level 10). Whether or not I actually play it beyond that will depend on how much I like the job. It's pretty stupid to say "Oh, BUM will be the greatest job ever, I'm going to get it up to level 99, which will be the new cap" when we don't know anything about how the job works except that it will A. cast some sort of "monster" spells and B. will apparently be able to equip curved swords (probably just swords like the Greed Scimitar that are already in the game). I personally think it will be awesome, but you can't say that it will be your new main job until you learn more about it.

Trick question. If the answer really is 7 then to get to the final boss you have to back track to the last block puzzle room and take the secret exit.

I'd have to agree with most of the points that have already been made: I'm waiting for the hype to die down, then I'll unlock the job and formulate my own opinion.

Right now, there isn't enough concrete information that we can even base an opinion on. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Blue Mage Job Forum added here, although the joke threads "ZOMG I hav teh BLue Mage!!11!1oneone!1" have gotten very tired, very quickly. (Not to mention, it's confusing the hell out of some of our lesser-informed peers)

Blue Mage (or the equivalent in other FF games) has always fascinated me, despite that so many people I've known have always been like: "Blue Mage in FFV is weak, Strago sucks in FFVI, Enemy Skill Materia is stupid in FFVII, etc. etc." I've always spent the extra time to find all the Blue Magic spells and make those characters some of the most formidable and versatile fighters in their respective games.

As much as I welcome the introduction of Blue Mage (finally!) into the game, I'm also bracing for the bandwagon to come storming through. Most people will drop it after level 10, or Valkurm or even Qufim I'm sure... but that can be said of most jobs really. To be painfully blunt, I have a sense that Blue Mage will require far more trial-and-error, research and work than most FFXI players will want to devote to it anyway. This will be true especially in the beginning when no formal strategies for leveling/skilling Blue Mage have been made public. (Naturally, the "OMGWTFBBQCHIKEN!!1! SE is stoopid, BLue Mage suxx, blah, blah, blah" threads will follow)

I imagine it'll be a lot like the NPC Fellowship quest that was introduced; it will be a novelty to most and only those who are truly interested will see it through to the end. Also like the NPC quest, I'm going to wait for mine... some people I know waited 8 friggin hours on lines at Eldieme and Ghelsba to fight the required mobs on the first day. I waited a couple days and did mine in maybe 1 hour flat, counting travel time. Fast forward to today, my NPC is level 41 and more than half the people I saw at the NPC quest sites back then haven't touched their NPCs in over a month now. XD

To the point of this thread, I plan to pick up Blue Mage on a serious level, but the only way I'll truly know for sure is when I try it out for myself when the expansion is released. ^_^ Unless SE severely f*cks this job up, I would love to be one of the Blue Mage "pioneers" on my server of Ifrit. :D

Just for the fact is that it's something different and that armor looks amazing.

All the other jobs are boring and played out to me. So...blu here I come...

Ok for me at least here is my opinion. Ill get the expansion the day it comes out along with the other million or so us players and I'll unlock the blue mage. I think ill take it to at least 25-30. I have good reasoning for doing this and not just trying to 10. The reason being you dont really get to know any job if you are going to like its abilities,or ups or downs, the weapon skills, the 2 hr ability or anything about it. Sure you can use the abilities, and get to know the job traits and spells and weapons but you wont do much damage, or have much of any REAL experience till after 20-25. For example 3 days ago I was a DRK lvl 46 and had been using a scythe all the way from lvl 1. so i decided to lvl my GA and GS and I got them both to 80ish now and I hate all my Great Sword weapon skills, the scythe is awesome but what suprised me is how much more damage my great axe does with sturmwind!!(lvl 70 WS) now all I do is use a great axe! And it took me 46 lvls to figure this out!! So what I am getting at is if you want to try blu mage it will only take you like a day or 2 to get to 10, so give it a week, you never know what you will think, and plus most of the people that are going to rush in and try it will only do so till MAYBE 10.

I have got to say i am very pleased with most of your reponses. None of you gave the typical "I am gonna be a level 75 blu in 1 month and that job is the best job ever!" I just knew when i looked at this new forum thats all i was gonna read but this is the first thread i have read so there might be some of that, lol which is ok.

I gotta agree with your points on not leveling it or leveling only so much. Its exciting to have a new job but no telling if u will like it so its waaaaaay to early to say that u will take it to 75.

But for me hopefully i will have Thf to 75 by the time Expansion comes out. If so i will be one of the 1,232,890 ppl in the dunes lfp... I only say that cause i really want to be one of the first to figure this job out and get it really high. You know be a Bluemage pioneer lol.

But like Dave said u dont really know if u will really like a job until a certain level. For i find that level different with each job but for the most part i would say level 40. At level 40 you start aquire skills that only that job can use and ppl subbing the job cant. I rememeber i didnt like rdm until level 35 or so (i think the only thing that drove me to level it was that my other jobs were in SPs). And i didnt like thf till level 15 when i got SA then i fell in love. I used to think both jobs were weak really, when i was new, now both of them are my highest jobs. I also find that ALOT, if not all, jobs change at end-game. So really u never really know a job until u get to level 75 lol.

Well goodluck to all of u and goodluck finding a party lol...might see alot of partys like this at the start of the expansion: blu blu blu blu whm tank >.> we will all have fun in the dunes with those partys...

Yes, I plan on starting BLU wit ToAU and making it my main job. I have loved the job/magic in all FF's it has been in, and have been waiting for it to come to FFXI. I have lost all my interest to lvl anymore of the current jobs, just can't take anything past 60 range atm. So I'm working on my fishing/cooking until ToAU to occupy my time. Then BLU here I come, it's what I've wanted to play before I started XI but was never in game but now it will be. So happy

I will probably be one of those folks who goes right into getting the Blue Mage job. My FFXI goal is to learn all the magic in that game. And plus it is something new, something I won't be able to read up on like where AF is and all that cool jazz (though I am willing to bet it's all going to be in that new land). I would like to be one of the pioneers for that job. Though how much I enjoy it will probably be my trip through Qufim. At 25 I'll probably have my final answer then. The coolest thing about this job will be that since no one knows anything about it, I won't get the normal flak about what kind of sub-job I will need because no one will no d!@# about it so I can do anything I f!@#ing want to :)

For me it depends on weather or not they release any other jobs and which ones. Ilove the idea of Blue mage and will level it eventually, but if they release lets say necromancer i like the idea of commanding undead armies even more (what can I say, I'm just evil lol). well thats my 2 cents anyway

Im will see if it looks cool. The big thing to remember however is that we wont know what the job is like for several months. People probobally wont know what its exact role in a party is or why you need or want one in your party. If all it is is another melee damage dealer that can cast magic too, then it wont be in big demand. Imagine a drk,but more magic oriented in its damage. If that is the case,it probobally wont be able to output the raw damage that blm can. Melees have a different role in the parties. They add some to the damage, and execute skill chains that work in concert with the mages to increase total party damage output via magic bursts. They also work with theives for hate control. If blu can both execute the skill chains, and burst off them for the same kind of damage a blm can, then it is way overpowered. It instantly makes all other melees and mages obsolete. The only thing you need in a party is blu for melee/magic and a pld. Blue will just sub whm for erase and cures,or rdm for dispel and cures. RDM or BRD might still have a place because people think they need refresh (although they dont, you can get by without if you build a party right, especially with nin tanks, think NIN,SAM,THF,RNG,RNG,SMN. SMN has a pt of autorefresh, and can get more from equipment. A blm will work as well,he handles main healing and bursts, but no random nuking, recovers MP at a phenomenal rate when resting and is the only mage in the party)

I think if BLU is a truely effective melee,on the order of a DRK or THF,then their magic will be more in line with a DRK. If they can nuke like a blm, their melee will be more like a RDM.

since I'm in Ireland it will take me like a week to find the expansion in a shop once I do ill probabaly solo blu a bit drk is still gonna be my main but blu seems cool nice af using mobs abilitys only problem I can see though is that if blu get all new blue magic imagine the price of it all 0_0

I'm thinking of Leveling BLU a bit when it comes out hopefully its a rather cheap job to level and if its fun I might take it to 60 for the AF after a while of trying to learn attacks >.> since those will be needed and probably not always easy to obtain

I agree with every single one of you. Its been hard for me to find a job that I like. Well, I've tried every job and the only one I can play as is THF, which is lvl 31. I'm definetly going to try BLU and hopefully it can be my new main^^ I assume, since it is a mage job, that Tarutaru would be a good race choice (please oh please! lol) But I have one question, what are suitable subs? Hopefully I could level these before BLU comes out so i dont have to waste time leveling my sub, like I have to do with THF >.< Well, see you all again! ^^

Having levelled every job to 10 with two exceptions (Brd and Bst), I'm looking forward to Blue Mage. I've played every FF except 3, so I've been exposed to the Blue Mage concept pretty well, and I have to say that my favorite versions have been in FFT:A and FFVII's Enemy Skill materia.

As a Hume, I'm equally suited to any job, so the chances I'll be bad at BLU are pretty slim. As a Red Mage and a Warrior, I've got some pretty decent skills developed, insofar as a one-handed sword (188), a shield, if BLU's can equip those, various other weapons, plenty of magic, and lots of evasion. I have more than enough subjobs to take BLU to 30, no matter what suits it.

Because of what the player base has done with Red Mage, I'm really hoping BLU will be more of a melee-based Mage class, akin to Dark Knight and Paladin. I think a magical frontliner would do this game a world of good. If that's the case, I might switch to Blue Mage main. If it isn't, hey, I have another subjob for Red Mage, no harm done. ^_^d
