New Cait Sith avatar discussionFollow

Yesterday, they finally gave us the Bloodpacts for Cait Sith (at least, most of them), and pretty much gave us an idea of what kind of avatar it's going to be. So I thought I'd start this to discuss what we know and just give our impressions on it.

I've been wanting Phoenix since they made reference to her in Chains of Promathia, and while I'm sure they could easily create some story to make it possible for us to obtain her, I think that giving Cait Sith all the Raise/Reraise bloodpacts was a way of giving us half of what we were wanting. It covers the ability to give out Raise and Reraise, which was one of the big draws that everyone speculated that Phoenix would offer if she were a useable avatar. That being said, I'm not entirely a fan of ALL Cait Sith's Ward bloodpacts being Raise and Reraise oriented. I'd be fine with the SP ability (Altana's Favor) being there, and I don't mind the Raise II one either, but I feel that all the "defensive" BPs are all just of the same variety kind of seems weak for how long the avatar has been worked on. I would have preferred unique buffs or status changes, or curing abilities of some kind in addition to what we have so far.

In terms of Rage BPs, I'm more accepting because of the varying range we have. A physical, a light based magical, and two status ailment inducing ones (one of which was only accessible to players through a handful of Pre-lv. 80 weapons) lets you have some action for any type of mob. I just hope that the damage dealing ones are sufficiently powerful, and the ailment inducers don't have ridiculously bad accuracy to them. I'll understand if we couldn't nail a new Delve boss with Amnesia, but I don't want to have a hard time hitting a random rarab in Ronfaure with it.

Hopefully Cait Sith itself is a sufficiently strong melee fighter (to counter the few Bloodpacts it has available) or that the ones unveiled weren't the full list of available ones, and moreso just a teaser.

The wards are a pretty big let-down in my opinion. Eerie Eye will make or break the avatar, I think. I'm able to land Tidal Roar pretty consistently on very difficult AAs, so I have high hopes for that BP.

I wasn't expecting much beyond a utility avatar to compliment what we have, and that's what SE gave us. The Arise/RR3-ga 1hr could be useful for some sort of zombie zerg, maybe, since we can use it multiple times during the duration of Astral Flow. I suspect Eerie Will be about as accurate as Diabolos' Death BP; cool when it works, but not dependable.

The one thing I'm most excited about is that Cait Sith finally gives us a second non-1hr AOE damage BP besides Ramuh's Thunderspark.

I don't have high hopes for Level ? Holy, if its anything like the WoTG fight it will be too unreliable to be worthwhile.

Looking at the update notes, it looks like Cait Sith can cast Reraise II on any party member, which is neat.

So, doing some minor testing of Level ? Holy.

Cait Sith rolls a die. If the target's level is divisible by what Cait rolls, it takes damage. The higher the roll, the higher the damage, but the greater chance of missing completely.

Testing on Gigas in Xarc [S] (eminent sachet, eminent pole), a 1 did ~3300, a 2 did ~5500, a 3 missed, a 4 did ~8300. The damage is not reduced by the number of targets.

I also tested her on the WoE conflux #7 dragon. Regal Scratch did ~1300. Mewing Lullaby didn't sleep the dragon, but did reduce its TP to zero, Eerie Eye missed.

EDIT: Some more testing, on mandies outside Adoulin. A roll of a 5 did ~12900 to two mandies. It missed the orobon I was also fighting. I amnesiaed the orobon, but it wore off quickly (as you'd expect for a fire effect on a water mob). A roll of a 4 did ~10000 to other mandies.

And in case anyone cares, Cait's Favor is Magic Defense Bonus, which could be handy.

Cait also, like Carby, seems to be a WHM. Conflux #7 dragon's Comet spam did about 38 to her, compared to 44 to Fenrir, so she likely has the Magic Defense Bonus trait. I didn't notice if she auto-regens like Carby.

Continuing my conversation with myself, confirmed that Carby's Reraise II ward can target party members. Both it's Raise and Reraise pacts are, of course, much faster than casting either spell, which is useful for Oh Crap! situations, if you have Cait out.

Also, on the Shunned in Outer Raz'kanar, Holy ? did about ~8000 on a 5, ~3000 on a 1, when it hit. I also did some testing on Urganites in Czeik, and, as expected, the damage is reduced when they're in their shell.

Like other gaze attacks, Eerie Eye seems to be directional.

Greetings, summoners!

I have a bit of information to share about Cait Sith regarding a bug and some upcoming adjustments.

We’ve discovered a bug where the perpetuation cost is higher than intended. We will be fixing this to make the cost the same as Carbuncle’s. Also, the physical damage reduction that has been applied to all avatars as a natural trait has not been applied to Cait Sith. In the next version update we will be adding this to Cait Sith as well.

Additionally, in the next version update we’ll be moving Mewing Lullaby and Eerie Eye from the Blood Pact: Rage category to the Blood Pact: Ward category so that it follows the same pattern as other avatars' enfeebling and crowd control abilities.

Happy for the adjustments, hope this mean they'll sneak in the rest of Cait Sith bloodpacts too.

Cool. I hadn't notice Cait being particularly squishy, I just thought the Shunned hit that hard.

More fun with Cait, this time in Dynamis-Valk. The high point of the night was targeting two Nightmare Manticores with Holy ?. It was a roll of a 6, and one took 14555 and the other ~10800. I don't think it was the Emp armor Blood Boon bonus kicking in (that should have boosted both), so I'm guessing that one may have been level 90 and the other level 96.
