Fenrir: Heavenward Howl (Lv. 96)
Grants the effect of HP Drain or MP Drain to party members within area of effect.

Diabolos: Pavor Nocturnus (Lv. 98)
Lures an enemy into an eternal nightmare.

So, fenrir's ability if it isn't at least drain samba 3 is useless. And since it would fight with Haste Samba, it's not very useful in any circumstances.

I can't help but notice the "eternal" word there. Undispellable, unending debuff? That would actually be awesome and overpowered. I'm guessing it's actually a very potent dark based sleep. I've always thought that Diabolos was the premier support avatar. Giving him more sleep makes sense.

So, I'm not amazingly impressed with the spell upgrades coming. My remaining hopes for summoner are new ja's, and new avatars from WotG. So depressing, summoner has the richest story in the game, and the greatest interaction with the cities in the game. And here we are.

The new bloodpacts / wards are lackluster at best. I'm hoping they add more at same point. Maybe though Tier 3 merits. There are things that still need fixing. Like getting our spirits past lvl 75. Thunder spirit casting Burst and Thunder 4 doesn't scare anyone at lvl 95 and beyond.

One does not always have access to haste samba. We have no idea how potent the drain/aspir effects are, or if they work like blood weapon/samba or like bloody bolts. We do not know if it's random which you get, or if there are conditions which determine which you get.

Diabolos we really have no idea what that is going to do.

Can speculate all we want... but how about we wait and see if it's actually good or bad before writing it off?

They look pretty underwhelming, but I'm with Annalise. Can't really say until we see how they work. The drain move sounds utterly awful unless it's at least 50 HP per attack round, but the eternal sleep could be cool.

I'd be more optimistic if everything from Favors on wasn't underwhelming as well. Our biggest improvement was incidental from Atmas. Nothing we've gotten is bad or useless, per se. Just a resounding constant state of "Meh."

I know it says 'party members', but so do Fenrir's other pacts (growl and howl) and they still affect Fenrir. If it is actually a significant HP drain, this may up Fenrir's tanking survivability considerably. I think that's definitely one thing to consider as well, though this too is just speculation.

I kind of wonder if Diabolos' bloodpact is similar to the prime version's nightmare, since the avatar's nightmare is a much weaker version of it (i.e. hitting the target wakes it up). Considering this most likely will not work on notorious monsters, it doesn't sound particularly broken. I guess it make AoEing a bunch of mobs to death even easier? I suppose it would be good for big pulls of sleepable mobs as well. Provided it is like nightmare, of course.

I'm guessing that since their pattern was new attacks for the non-celestials (Carbuncle, then Fenrir, then Diabolos) and then a new bloodpact: ward for every avatar (6 celestial, then carbuncle, fenrir, then diabolos), they're going to be adding merit 3 bloodpacts for the avatars, similar to what they did for summoner and black mage in tier 2. Or perhaps they'll still decide they want us to use blood pacts we learned 25-29 levels ago for damage... who knows.

All in all, I guess we will find out shortly.
