I know I have to be level 30 to do the summoner quest. I am level 29, and I'm in jugner forest trying to get the ruby, does the ruby drop from these leeches? I know it's a rare drop but i been there for many hours. I just want to make sure I am not wasting my time. Though I am getting good exp for now.
Also it says on wikki for the weather that ice can be found in Batallia Downs but I never seen it there, but at my level at level 30 I would have to take a trip to Beaucedine Glacier...can i do this alone at level 30? No one will help me. I keep asking for help, but I had to sleep the dancing weapon to get past it, even though I asked for help many times..while high level people walked past me and did nothing.

Make sure you check out the wiki over at gamerescape, that site will list all the mobs and the zones in which you can find carbuncle's ruby. It is a very rare drop but I have had my best luck in Qufim Island. Some people swear by Buburimu Peninsula. Either way getting it to drop sucks and you could be there a while.
If the wiki says B.Downs gets Ice weather then it is likely very rare. You could indeed get to Beaucedine Glacier by yourself but it would be tricky. You would need Sneak and Invisible for sure and the trickiest part would likely be getting past the door in Ranguemont Pass without aggroing the Goblins on the other side. Other than that it should be a straight walk.

Korroloka Tunnel has a room on the Altepa side near the ghost NM with something like 10 leeches. If you can get someone to go there and -aga them for you a few times, you'll walk out with a Ruby for sure. Ordelle's had a similar room, but I don't know if the last monster reorganization killed it.
If you're looking to solo it, I'm 99% sure I've gotten it off leeches on the beaches of Buburimu.

I also tried for my ruby in Jugner, with no luck. I finally got mine in Buburimu. I remember soloing them as a level 30 WHM (I was probably doing something stupid like meleeing with a wand, too lol.. I was such a noob), so I'm sure any job can do it.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told you had to be level 30 to even see the ruby drop, since you have to have one in your inventory to start the quest. Or does the level requirement only apply to getting the cutscene in Windurst?

I am not on the Asura server. I am on the sucky Leviathan sever, where most things are very expensive and I make little gil. lol. I went for beastmaster, now level 15.. and unlocked that myself, since no one helps me, even though I asked. I am level 30 blackmage now, got there myself to. I'd like to get summoner but finding it hard to do at the moment.

My last time around (about 5 years ago), I got my Ruby from Bubu Peninsula, soloing once then having help. Took about 20 to drop, if I recall correctly. Currently I just returned shortly ago on Asura server, and I just burned my WHM to 30 so I'm in Jeuno unlocking the Chocobo and along the way fighting leeches in Pashtow, the Dunes, etc (no luck yet obviously). I think I may just head to Ordelle's unless the mob is gone now, otherwise its back to BB for a few hours (or days. eck.). Good luck!
When I got mine it was way back when people played this game together. Every so once in a while someone would want a carbuncles ruby so I'd get my 75 PLD a friend got out his 75 BLM and we'd go off to the Maze of Sarakhami<sp>. Gather all the leeches in the NM leech room and -go them. Within 2 hours of nuking 30 leaches every 15 min we'd get all the ruby's that were needed on the run.
Now a days where people no longer play together I can't imagine trying to farm a Ruby. Maybe if you had THF leveled high enough.

I just soloed mine in Buburimu Peninsula. It took about two hours, killed about 100-120 leeches. I did get 6 1/2 stacks of Bird Blood with NPC for about 1500g a stack, so made a little bit of gil while doing it (was 60PUP), rounded them all up, and used Spinning Attack plus regular attacks to finish them off, rest a bit then repeat.
