Soloing Avatar Prime Options?Follow

I'm sure fighting any of the avatars is very doable as DRG/WHM.

Time your Super Jump just before their Astral Flow moves and you're golden. (They use them around 50% HP.)

Edit: Also, the prime avatars are well known for their extremely poor accuracy. Perhaps if you steered your gear towards evasion (I'm not familiar with DRG's equipment catalogue), it would make the fights even easier.

If you're going as drg i'd recommend using carbonara as food. attack boost, store TP, and HP boost.

Soloed Shiva this morning on DRG/WHM. It was early and I miss-timed Super Jump on Diamond Dust, but both wyvern and I survived (barely). Fortunately, after the Super Jump she went right for wyvern, so I had a couple seconds to recover. Call Wyvern was up, so I was able to recall as soon as pet went down and get the win.

There's also the fact that Enhancing skill actually doesn't do all that much to increase the potency of Barspells. It takes 5 skill for 1 point of resistance (Barspells all start out at 40 resistance base). Because of this, a lot of WHMs who have dedicated Barspell builds often elect not to get Enhancing merits anyway due to their limited impact (at the most, with 16 Enhancing points, you're just getting 3-4 points of resistance)

For instance, someone with say, 200~ skill would have a +80 Barspell, whereas someone subbing a Barspell with 100~ skill would still have a +60 Barspell, which is still enough to be significant on weaker mobs like primes. When you start talking about HNM though, that's when you really need to get all the resistance that is humanly possible in order to achieve a decent resist rate.

Their acc isn't really high... BLU's evade is just pretty bad. >_>

The celestial primes cannot be stunned at all, by any means. Not even Leviathan (weak to lightning). Fenrir can be stunned, including his 2hr; however, his 2hr fires off slightly faster than those of the celestial primes so anyone looking to stun it has to be sharp. It's also has far less base power than the 2hrs of the celestial primes, so most people don't give a rat's ass about it. (Fenrir is well capable of killing people without his 2hr anyways.)

on ifrit, titan, ramuh and shiva you can just use garuda, elemental siphon after the first garuda dies and PC them until you run out of mp, carby kite them, and they will die.

for garuda and leviathan (avatars with healing moves):
option 1:
carby kite them until they are at 50%, then use garuda (or any other avatar that's cheap). They will use wispering wind and spring water to recover, and it will heal 1k of hp. This is why you can't use Carbuncle in the end: he can't DD enough to counter the healing bp's.

Option 2:
Summon Garuda and PC them until you run out of mp, when you do, summon the ice spirit for garuda and the thunder spirit for leviathan. when you astral flow they will be free, and will use T4 nukes and AM more often, dealing decent dmg to the avatar you're fighting (without consumming your mp!). while astral flow is in effect you can also use elemental siphon to recover some mp. If the avatar is still alive after astral flow wears, use the mp you recovered to BP some more.


i prefer /whm for the stoneskin/blink/barspells and mdb.

For drg soloing avatars, if you have /rdm that works a bit better imo than /whm.
You get fastcast, phalanx, poison, and you give up essentialy 2 points of MDB, free reraise, and a little mp. It's not a huge difference between the two I suppose, just my preference.

Either way, the avatars are easy once you get used to them. Just don't do anything but trigger spells once you get it below 50% so you're set and ready to hit your Super Jump macro. It's not a bad idea to have some TP stored up anyway so you can WS to steal hate back from your wyvern immediately after the Super Jump.

Oh, and make sure you don't have Bomb Queen Ring in your HP+ macro set when fighting Ifrit lol..... (I learned that the hard way).
