I use SMN A lot on Jailer of Faith and my Claws set and they start off good around 800-1100 then as fight goes on they start to drop incredibly to the 46-250 range and dont come back up.

My Claws set atm is

Main: Windstaff -> working toward augment staff
Sub: Bugard Strap +1
Range: None
Ammo: Tathlum( use this on rdm and bomb is 700+k on my server)
Head: Karua hachigane
Neck: Sacrifice Torque
Ear1: MP earring(will be replaced w/ Loq. earring eventually
Ear2: Mp earring
Body: YYR
Hands: Summoner's bracers
ring1: Evoker's Ring
Ring2: Tamas Ring
back: Blue Cape +1 -> working on cape
Waist: Hierach Belt Augment w/ +1 MND lol
Legs: Evoker's Spats
Feet: Summoner's Pigaches

I'm not sure what i should upgrade next or what will change the most but on alot of other things this set gives me really nice numbers

There's not much Summoner's can do to enhance our blood pacts except equip Summoning Gear and gear which specifically boosts avatars. Everything else is surplus and serves only to enhance ourselves and not our pets. There is a cape with Summoning Skill you might want to look at as well as swapping in a Summoning Earring for Blood Pacts.

You also might want to look into upgrading your Summoner's Bracers into their HQ versions (Dynamis-Buburimu). It adds +2 Summoning Skill to the set while retaining the other useful bonuses.

EDIT: I should note, however, that all this extra Summoning Skill serves only to raise the accuracy of the blood pact and make your Elemental Siphons a bit tastier. There's no evidence that im aware of that skill actually has any impact on the actual damage.

Ignoring Redingote augments, use Summoner's Doublet. The 3% critical hit rate averages out to 9% that you'll get a critical on one of the three hits, which is enough to be noticeable.

A Redingote with Att/Acc 15 is arguably the best body for it.

There are also ACP earring augments with Pet: +Att and Pet: +Acc on them, as well as the new Fay Croziers that can have Pet: +Acc or Pet: +Att on them, which would make them the best choices for those respective slots.

If you're going for the Fay augments, however, be advised that it can take quite a few runs while. You could get lucky first time, but chances are it will take a few runs before you get all the augments you want on it. And there's an equal chance that the augments won't change between runs.

It's well worth the hassle if you can get a good party though, just be ready to spend a fair bit of gil in replacing used staves.

The earring that was mentioned is from an Ivory Key, (key item) from the ACP storyline.

If you are willing to put in the effort and want the items, then you should look into the pet: ATK/MAB/ACC boosts. The sea capes, I've been next in line for..for a LONG time, and we've done the NM so much..and the drop rate is horrible, at least in my opinion. If I were you instead of working on the SMN magic skill cape, try for the Ivory, (earring boost MAB/ATK etc..) or the Angelskin key, that's the last moogle fight..that gives you a nice cape that gives atk, mab, acc depending on if you think your avatar is landing her hits.

Sorry the earring has nothing to do with replacing your back piece I just put it in there. They're right on the fay staff for SMN. I got REAL lucky, my first try I got MAB +3 perpet-3, BP-delay -3. Naturally I took it but I'm going to try to go for more, and maybe get myself one that's all attack..acc for physical blood pacts.

Should say the keys are also a pain in the **** but ..so is the sea cape. If you work towards both? You're bound to get one, can't go wrong with acc on smn skill and can't go wrong with more atk or mab when the acc is capped. I'm trying for both sea and key capes..and no luck..so, best of luck to you.

ACP7 (Ivory Key) is actually really easy to get. It just requires running through Fei'Yin for your Mark of Seed (takes about 10-12 minutes and I usually do it on the way to the fight), and the fight itself is very easy if you know the details about it:

Kill order:
Yagudo (WHM) > Quadav (RDM) > Orc (WAR) > Goblin (THF)

Other important things to know:
Some people will tell you there is shared hate. There is not, but the hate mechanics are very important. First, the Goblin resets hate every time he teleports around to Sneak Attack someone, but aside from that his hate is normal. The Yag & Quad both have normal hate. The Orc is the one with really weird hate, he starts the fight by assisting the Yagudo, nothing you do to him will pull him off whoever the Yagudo hates. Once the Yagudo dies, Orc will assist the Quadav next. Once Quadav dies, Orc will finally get his own hate list. If you have your party ready for this dynamic, it makes the fight very easy. Either have a PLD voke the Yag and Flash the Quad to get all 3 mobs on him (minus the Goblin); or have two tanks, one for the Yag and one for the Quad. Also make sure someone is able to pull the Goblin off the healer(s) if needed. The only other thing that you need to watch out for is the Orc's knock-back + bind move, it's blocked by Utsusemi but if it hits anyone the healers need to Erase the bind.

I suggest doing this fight as much as you can, there are a lot of really great SMN earrings you can get. My best so far are a Spinel Earring with pet:acc+2, and a Sapphire Earring with pet:m.acc+2.

Anyway, here are the relevant pieces to my Predator Claws build:
Bahamut's Staff (summoning +5)
Karura Hachigane (attack)
Sacrifice Torque (attack)
Spinel Earring (accuracy +2, from ACP7)
Summoning Earring (summoning +3)
Royal Redingote (attack +15, da +2, crit +2)
Summoner's Bracers +1 (summoning +12, accuracy)
Evoker's Ring (summoning +10)
Astute Cape (summoning +5)
Marduk's Shalwar (summoning +5)
Summoner's Pigaches +1 (attack)

It looks like you have a pretty decent setup for your PC build.

The ammount of damage increase from the ACP body was pretty marginal for me. I redid it for the avatar magic attack bonus. (IDK about MKD hat since I went with a WHM hat for mine and loving it.) I would honestly focus more on acc than ATT when it comes to gear, however we do not get many choices.

Your setup looks pretty good. If you have it, use SMN body from beau as others have said. When it comes to pet attack or avatar attack, our choices are severely limited to pretty much what everyone else has. (Now if only SE would give us Avatar Strength +5 or something that actually makes sense)

personnaly i use summoning torque and oracle braconi's for BP's.
i've merited phys. acc 5/5 for the avatars.
PC got better results, since you have a better shot at all 3 hits connecting.

I'm not too different on what I'm using...although you didn't mention what merits you have...they help a lot also.

But for what I'm using in my PC build:

Bahamut's Staff
Staff Strap
Hedgehog Bomb
Selenian Cap (Pet: Critical 3%, Garuda headband when using accuracy build)
Sacrifice Torque (on certain mobs I use Summoning torque for extra accuracy)
MP earrings (ACP hates me, and Summoning earring is an overpirced piece)
Summoner's Doublet (Redingote with pet accuracy on certain mobs)
Summoner's Bracers +1
Evoker's Ring
Serket Ring (come on SE...cut us a break here, give us another SMN ring)
Astute Cape
Heirach Belt (again, come on SE...SMN useful belt, please?)
Marduk's Shalwar
Summoner's Pigaches

I may do the same sooner or later. I haven't noticed a big damage increase either, but wanted to give it a good bit of time to get used to it first. That way it'll be more obvious if I swap to the magic augment and my physical BP's suffer for it, I'll know I should change back. I also did a WHM hat from MKE, and loving it :)

Good call, I have 5/5 avatar physical accuracy & attack.

dakpluto wrote:

I fully concur. My setup actually doesn't include that piece right now. Someone was shouting to buy one for 500k so I sold mine. Haven't seen one at a decent price to buy back yet, don't know if I ever will or particularly care. 3 skill is pretty marginal, I'd rather just spam ACP7 and get a real good line-up of those earrings. Ideally, I'd like to get one of each (pet:acc, pet:atk, pet:m.acc, pet:m.atk) so that I have two for physical and two for magical. Someday...

Since we're sharing, this is what I use for physical BPs. I'll sometimes swap in Karura for Pred Claws, but I generally favor accuracy over attack personally. I don't have any Group 1 merits yet. I decided on 5 Acc, but I'm still not sure if I want 5 MAtt or 5 Att.

I'd do the ACP missions for the earrings, but augments in general **** me off. I hate how utterly random the whole thing is. I picked up a Summoning Earring for the comparatively decent price of 200k when I was 35 and I'm glad I did, it shot up to 500k+. It's nice because that's one less Pet: Acc/MAcc earring I would need to augment.

Ideally, you'd get 2 Pet: Att/MAtt and 2 Pet: Acc/MAcc earrings and make a series of sets with an Att to Acc gradient. It's just a pity that the earring slot is one of the few capable of doing that, along with neck and feet. Garuda and Leviathan edge out since they can swap out one more slot each.

my build:
crozier +8 atk
karura hachigane
sac torque
ruby earring +5 atk
smn earring
royal redingote +15 acc +15 atk
smn bracers +1
smn ring
astute cape
evoker's spats +1
summoner's pigaches +1

only upgrades for my setup would be a second earring from acp7, and a pet acc ring from acp11. generally this is the same setup for all physical pacts, swapping karura for marduk tiara on other avatars. magic pacts however will just use a pure +skill build, with acp7 earrings, redingote, and a crozier with +4 matk

Is the summoning earring really that expensive? I got mine from a drop on an ENM/Promie run. (Thats about the only way you can get people to help these days >_<)

No its not very expensive. People are just being cheapskates or not wanting to keep one in their inventory. On caitsith they are around 300k, and 300k is not a lot...

You don't really need to bother with attack for BPs, even though it probably feels better when you do. Considering the low effect that Ifrit + Crimson howl does, which is 8% attack bonus. (Assuming a large amount of attack around 200, that would mean +16 attack isn't noticable)

I think there is some kind of attack tier system, which we are unable to pass. We can see RNG and WAR and other jobs pass this with their BRD songs, food and decent gear as well as berserk and other abilities.

It would be nice if SE ever let us get pet food (like 20% attack bonus) or something to test and see if I'm right, but I doubt they'll ever do it (and if they do, they won't tell us but expect us to try and notice that eating cup cakes boosts avatar accuracy)

650k is still not bad if you're going to have smn as your main job, not necessary if you only use smn as an every now and then job though.

Not exactly. Ignoring misses and assuming 100% hit rate:

(0.97)(0.97)(0.97) = 91.26% probability of getting ZERO critical hits.
3x (0.97) (0.97) (0.03) = 8.47% probability of getting ONE critical hit.
3x (0.97) (0.03) (0.03) = 0.26% probability of getting TWO critical hits.
(0.03)(0.03)(0.03) = 0.0027% probability of getting THREE critical hits.

So the probability of getting at least one critical is a little less than 9%, namely 8.74%.

Got my Fay Crozier on 2nd run of 2nd staff. I originally went as WHM but they had an RDM and asked me to go change to SMN. Not sure if fighting and/or talking to the pixie on the job the weapon is meant for makes a difference on stats or not but on all other fights I was WHM and got junk (first 4 fights) horrid fails due to stupid AOEs from BLM hitting the quad.

I was doing 600 dmg easily with Predator Claws adn slightly less with Chaos Strike.

Assuming avatars abide by the 95% acc cap, a 3 hit BP is going to miss at least one of its hits 15% of the time and will miss completely 5% of the time.

Due to the crit bonus innate in Pred Claws and the unknown nature of its potency, damage vary futher.

Assuming 1 smn skill = 1acc and based on studies that have shown Summoner's Brcr. and Evoker's Spats/+1 stack and collectively give 14% accuracy or +28 acc
with a base BP accuracy of 70% , it would be very easy to hit the acc cap on SMN without splurging on SMN skill gear.

70% +14% from Summoner's Brcr. and Evoker's Spats/+1 = 84% acc. Leaving 11% to be filled by summoning skill over cap. And I'm sure most SMN. can easily swap in +22 skill worth of gear for the BP.

I rounded, .26% (a quarter of a single percent) isn't really worth worrying about.
