Best time to fight Maat?Follow

I'm level 66 right now and am rather impatient to get Maat over with. Are there any advantages to taking him at 70 instead of 66? Should I wait until then or is it ok to just go now?
No real benefit waiting to 70 no.
Depending on how hard you find it to get a Testi, there's no reason not to give him a go at 66 for SMNs. Some other Jobs get some really neat gear at 70 (Joy-toy comes to mind) which is worth waiting for though.

There is no real benefit in doing it before 70 either, unless you actually get a party on SMN that seems to get you from 69 to 71 in one go.
I did it at 70, and it was quite easy getting testimonies solo at 70. Predator claw a tonberry for 1.5k is fun.
I didn't use 70 BPs on Maat though, but used the old 2 hour tactics. It really was like an easier version of the level 20 battles (but a bit similar to shooting fish in that you want all mobs on the avatar)

In my personal experience, I made a lot of mistakes when it came to Maat. I just recently beat him with my SMN the other day (after 7 failed attempts and a lot of Testi farming in Temple Ugly).
From my trial and error I have to say that you definately want to have as many of the following as you possibly can before going in:
1. Fenrir (a must, especially if you intend on taking on Maat at a lower lvl)
2. A decently high Summoning Skill (ie: 200+)
3. 2-3 High ethers
4. 1 Yagudo Drink/Vampire Drink
5. A working Knowledge of (smn)Maat's behaviors and habits
6. Your 2-Hour (duh)
7. Fast Reflexes
8. Patience
The more of these that you come with... the better off you'll be.
The following was the advise I got just before going into the fight that I won.
- Buy 1 Yag Drink and 3 Hi-Ethers
- Wait until Darksday
- Enter the Burning Circle
- Summon Garuda (Aerial Armor)
- Summon Titan (Earthen Ward)
- Rest
- Summon Fenrir
- Walk just close enough to use assault
- Astral Flow
- Assault Maat
- Howling Moon (Maat)
- RUN BACK TO THE ENTRANCE AND PUT YOUR BACK TO THE WALL!!!
- Drink Yag Drink
- Drink all 3 Ethers
- Watch Fenrir's health bar closely
- Fenrir Dies
- Resummon Fenrir
At this point is where your patience and fast reflexes come in. It's also where I praised God that I had buffs. Maat should have used AF by now and be charging at you high speed. Unlike when you're carby kiting... Maat and his Avatar will both be headed straight for you... not Fenrir. Between your buffs and your summoning skill... you should be able to get fenrir off without a problem. As soon as he is out, don't waste time with assault... just target Maat and use Howling Moon again. If he isn't dead now... hes close... and all hate is now on Fenrir, giving you time to get far away and cross your fingers. In my case it was enough to kill him, but if he lives... assault him with fenrir and wait. worst case senario... use carby.
A lot of people tell you to treat it like it's a Mini Avatar fight.

It is kind of like a mini-avatar fight, except you generally only have to use a 2hr bloodpact twice instead of 3 times, so in a way, it's easier.
Here's how my fight went. Upon arriving in the combat zone, I immediately ran up to Maat and gave him a /slap, just because he deserves it. I moved back a few steps, summoned Titan, guzzled a Yagudo Drink (didn't really even need it), used Astral Flow, commanded Titan to Assault Maat, and quickly used Titan's 2hr bloodpact. As soon as the BP went off, I ran down the ramp to the far end of the zone, used a Hi Elixir, and waited for Titan to die. As soon as he did, I summoned Shiva, and used Diamond Dust as soon as Maat was close. Maat was still alive and dragon-kicking at this point, so I started to run back toward the platform - but after a couple of melee hits from Shiva, Maat was down.
I've seen a few videos of the SMN Maat fight on YouTube that use this strategy, which is why I did it like this - except, unlike the videos, I didn't use any buffs, not even Earthen Ward.

I did mine at level 70 with Chaotic Strike. Didn't feel like using my 2 hour unless I had to. It took three Chaotic Strikes. When it was time for the third, it got a little messy, but I got it off and won.

Lost the first time because I was careless and Shiva died while using Sleepga. Two tonberries later I went back to fight him again and won easily. Used the strategy from here http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Shattering_Stars/Summoner
Easier Fight than White Mage Maat. All you have to do is Cast Shiva, use Yagudo Drink, Astral Flow, Diamond Dust, Run Back to Entrance, Use Hi-Ether or Ether, Recast Shiva, and then Diamond Dust Again and you win. Simple.
