Do I need Carby mitts? Follow

I farmed for about ~20 hours on THF for that **** key, then like an idiot. I helped a buddy with the Sandy mission, and figured that would be the perfect time to fight NM. Well, like an idiot, I warped out and forgot all about the NM. I tried to aggro through the door like some have said they have. No luck....

Just wondering if these are a staple item?

I don't know how awesome you are, but I haven't seen anyone solo the fight.

As for the item itself, it is mainly used for body guard carby, farming and kiting. It has very little impact on a party (then again, do SMNs get parties these days?)

id say its an important piece to get. free carby is too good to pass up imo.

It isn't essential for everything, but it is essential for:
  • Soloing pre 70
  • Carbuncle bodyguard
  • looking awesome

  • You'd be crazy to try and solo the NM and I don't think I've ever heard of it being done since the NM Astral Flows right off the bat (and I believe he does it more than once).

    Find other people that want the mitts (because I'm sure they exist) or people that know their way around to help you. You only need one key or one person that knows how to open the door otherwise.

    Pop items easy to get fights easy with a large mob. Get them you will be happy you did.

    It has some of the best MP on that slot for... over half your career.

    The only other hands I really used were Austere and Summoner's.

    Definitely a needed item, at least at some point.

    I waited until like level 60 and got them when I spent a day getting my AF, which I got some sh*t over, lol.

    Anyways, don't bother getting the key. It's such a *****.

    If you hit a monster that's behind the door, the monster will open the door when it comes to attack you.

    Easiest way to target through the door:

    Use Windower, and type //fillmode 1.

    You'll be able to see through walls with this feature and there should definitely be something to pull through one of the doors with Dia/Ranged Attack within ~5min.

    Don't try and do it without fillmode, will take too long. //fillmode 0 when you're done.

    (Sorry if this is against the forum rules... definitely not detectable ingame however)

    As for the fight, get a couple friends. Getting there is annoying, but if you get your pop item first, take control, lead, and open the door with the above method nobody should have a problem taking 20 min. to come help out.

    I trio'd with MNK, DRG, and me on WHM. Not difficult at all.

    Just a little info on the Mitts in case you don't know; eliminates half of Carbuncle's Avatar Perpetuation Cost. This means that with a couple of pieces you can make Carbuncle free - if you have a Refresh body (Yinyang Robe, Marduk's Jubbah, Vermillion Cloak) you can even get +1 MP/tick while Carbuncle is out. Very useful for soloing/kiting etc.
    Especially if you're low on MP. You can just kite with Carbuncle and regain MP over time with the Refresh + Elemental Siphon (/Sublimation)

    I did, RDM/BLU took ~30mins and wasnt overly difficult till the last 20%, where he literally spams searing light and you have to deal with doll repops. Took about 4 attempts to get it sussed but I'm convinced I could prolly do it regularly now.

    As for agroing through the door, yes it works. After the first few times getting keys I resorted to jus spamming self buffs until I magic agroed. Though it certainly isn't the quickest method :(

    While they are an amazing MP piece from 20-50, level 51 is when Carbuncle Mitts truly become irreplaceable.
    From 51-75, you can combine them with other equipment (Light Staff, Austere Robe) to perpetuate Carbuncle for zero MP. It's highly unlikely you'll get kicked from a party for not having them, but don't underestimate the value of a free Carbuncle!

    Bottom line: get them as early as you reasonably can, but don't worry too much if you don't have them before 51.

    Easy to dou if you can quickly clear the room of and fight.

    Did it with NIN/DNC (me) and a BLM/WHM.

    Did it twice..once ofr each of us. I was only 15 SMN at the time and never thought I'd level smn...glad I did cause I started leveling smn this week.

    Agro through the door isn't to bad. Ninja's do it easy..did it within a few minutes on several ocassions....just tab or "control pad" target through the door until you get the tonberry back there..and cast a spell on will open the door when it comes to attack you.

    The mitts are very much worth the effort and time to get. Using just Carbuncle and Carbuncle Mitts, Vermillion Cloak, with a Light Staff I managed to solo the Bloody Coffin NM Crab in the CoP area. I was running around looking at stuff when I forgot I had the quest activated well over a year or two ago, checked the ??? spot and found that crab running my **** down. It took awhile but without those mitts I would've never been able to pull that off. I did this as a 59SMN/15THF btw... (Was killing Gigas for drops in the area with THF sub.)

    In all reality you don't need the mitts as I leveled summoner up to level 70 without the mitts. The mitts help out when you want to solo something and also when you are low on mp and need carby to take hate off of you. I finally got my mitts and never really looked back. So to get the mitts is a major plus since I solo'd all the primes with them and having them with my Yin Yang Robe and Evoker's Ring.

    I always open the door just by using the graphical glitches in the game.

    Stand with your right shoulder next to the door.
    Rotate camera until you can see through the door to the other side.
    Target a mob on the other side and lock on.
    RA/dia/whatever to get the mobs attention, and let it open the door for you.

    With very little practice, you can get this technique down to the point where you'll have mobs targeted within ~5 seconds of arriving at the door. Useful for checking to see if the Uggalepih coffer is behind the door that requires a key without wasting your key only to have the coffer not be there. Also managed to target and talk to a good number of the Quasilumins in Hu'Xzoi that would normally require walking around and through a bunch of aggroing mobs for the map this way.
