Magic Accuracy/Attack MeritsFollow

#1 Jul 15 2009 at 12:34 AM Rating: Default
I'm currently deciding whether to merit Magic Accuracy & Attack or Physical Accuracy & Attack.

I don't think I want to do a combination of Physical and Magic Avatar merits.

I have more interest in meriting the Physical stuff, but a lot of the Summoners on forums that I've visited really seem to favor Magic Accuracy & Attack for SMN merits.

Can someone please explain this to me in detail?
Why is that superior?

@_@ lol

Nothing is superior, it depends on what you are doing.

Physical on magic immune mobs or weak mobs, magic on everything else.

Figure out what you intend on doing, and merit accordingly.

It's not superior, but it's measurable.

Avatar Magic Attack merits are a linear increase to magical bloodpacts. When you put a merit into M.Att, you -know- what you'll get back out of it.

In addition, Tier II BPs are still a little under Predator Claws, so the idea is to fully commit to them to help even out the gap between damage types.

Keep in mind that physical accuracy helps increase TP gain rate, which directly affects nuking damage.

I went with physical acc and magical attack because of that reason.

I figure since TP reflects magic dmg, you will be leaving your avatar out longer. So the physical acc hopefully helps to gain TP faster.

^ this

Personally, I went 5/5 physical acc/atk and never looked back. I do a pretty broad spectrum of things in game, and I'd say a good 70% or so of enemies in the game are better dealt with using Pred Claws than merit BPs. Thus I chose the physical route. There are, however, a lot of justifications for using either one. It all comes down to your personal play style. You might consider leveling your group 2 merits first, and then seeing which you use more often: 70 BPs or merit BPs.

There is no superior way of meriting your smn.

The magic attack and acc are more favored towards the merited BP's. So moves like Pred claws will kinda fall short. But that would depend on gear. Now if you had the acp body to compensate, then you could find the perfect balance with augments to balance out what you merited.

You can specialize in one like you stated. But if you do, I would do Physical, mainly because they are used at a higher percent of the time when fighting mobs, whether end game, or exp. Id say magic is more for show. Just look at how many mobs take physical dmg, vs the ones that take magic dmg. Ultimately its how you plan to play.
