What am I doing wrong?Follow

Hi Fellow Summoners

I am currently 54 SMN and tried my hand at Carby kiting bombs in Ifrit's Cauldron. My question is: How is this a viable way of making exp? I kited for 30 rl mins and it never blew up. In fact the 5 bombs I have fought/engaged have never blown up in IC.

Am I doing something wrong?

Conversely when I go to fight Djinn in E Ronf (S) I have a great time. I only do this during Ice and Thundersday cause they prime quickly...

Is there a trick to the IC bombs?

Yes it is absolutely random. Like above poster, I have had 2 to 3 blow up with its first TP Self-Destruct. Guess is it lottery on which TP move it will actually use.

That will be dangerous for summoner to do. We don't have abilities to transfer all our hate to our avatars. We could do a BP to try and transfer hate, but that could also get us hate. We also generally want to get as far back as estimated to resummon Carby, should the bomb not blow up. In which case it's a good thing we didn't do anything to get ourselves on the hate list.

If you have another summoner you could duo with up there, that would probably improve things. Would be feeding the mobs more TP, and there would only be a very slight reduction in EXP gain.

Ok cool, I will definitely take your advice and persevere. It definitely is a change and difference to soloing on BST in the same camps. SMN is a bit more ..... delicate!

Still, having fun, and am enjoying the experience.

Volcanic Gas is level 66-68. There's no way that Garuda can handle a mob 12+ levels higher.

Maybe as the OP gets higher, 56-57, but at 54, it's the SMN will run out of MP before Garuda can kill the bomb.

Another option, though, would be to use Fenrir. He is regarded as the most accurate of our avatars, and would help the bomb build TP. Carby misses a lot, especially early on while the level gap is big.

I think AF pants is best. But that is just because the cryptic message can mean anything from 10 accuracy, to ignores 5% of enemy evasion.

Actually after seeing the pants again they both had the same wording. I must have been tricked by my memory that someone over at the PUP forum had parsed it to 10 accuracy on the new pants. I guess what I said could still be true, but 10 accuracy on both is probably most reasonable assumption.

been a while since my first post, so thought i would clear something up...

in regards to what i was saying before, if you go smn/blm and nuke, you will want to do it with your lowest tier spell that will register any dmg at all.

this is so you spend the least amount of mp to give the bomb the same tp, and gain the least amount of hate.

i would recommend doing it every 20-30 seconds, or depending on how safe you feel ~ you will have to watch the hate line, but you ~shouldnt~ be pulling hate at all with your avatar pounding on it.




also, as AaralynTrying was saying, and it seems a few of you thought the same thing, bst/blm doesnt have any ability to transfer hate to the mobs used for bombs. the ability Snarl is only for "jug pets". those dont do well vs bombs at all and it would get very expesive very fast lol ~ for bombs, bst relies on charmed pets, which we have no ability to transfer our hate to, so it would be very similar to how smn would work on those bomb camps.

the only real difference would be a bst could likely take a few more hits than a smn could unless you had Aerial Armor and Earthen Ward up, which you should if you can, in which cast, the smn could easily out last a bst there, or at least lst until a new avatar is out =P



also, stick with the Evoker's Spats over the Herders. the herders provides +10 acc to your avatar, and if i remember correctly, so do the spats. the difference, however, is the spats have higher def, mp >>10 eva<<, and -enm on them as well, so they will serve you much better out there.

HQ has -enm instead of eva.
