Hey guys.

Even though I've played this game on and off for about 3 years I have yet to level a single job past level 33 but I if I had to choose one to stick with, it would be summoner. My only concern is that I have no way of getting Fenrir or Diabolos or the Carby Mitts because I have no high level connections what so ever...

So my question is this, If I leveled my Summoner to lv. 75, getting Fenrir at 60 with some help and Diabolos at 70 something, do you think it would be worth it, or would I really be missing out on alot and I should level another job to 75 first to get all the extra stuff?

Why are you asking, exactly? It's a question that only you can answer. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it.

Some people can't stand to level the job without all of its tools. Personally, I can't stand to earn those tools with anything other than the job itself. So if you ask me, I'd say just go SMN. Many will probably disagree.

I know without Diabolos and Carby mitts you can sneak by in exp parties, fenrir would be pushing it in my opinion. Ecliptic Growl and Howl are great support abilities from Fenrir and both pacts come before 55(43 for growl 54 for howl).
But over all I'd say, Level the **** outta it, try to make some contacts while exping, and do shouts for the Primes, and some high lvls smns to help you with Fenny Prime.

Have fun, enjoy the job, learn it well and over all you shouldn't have too many issues, expect some asshats, but thoes are every where n.n'.

I was in the same situation actually, and I ended up not getting Carby mitts and Fenrir until in the 70s. Yeah that was really late in the game and it would've helped loads before, but I still enjoyed the climb anyway. The fact that I personally was involved in earning all my avatars, carby mitts and Fenrir gives me satisfaction too. I've been 75 for a while now and still don't have Diabolos (the shame!) but I've been working on it, and now just need to do the single fight to obtain him.

There is no "right" way to take SMN from 1 to 75--some people might even think what I did was downright blasphemy, but I just wanted to share that it's not really a disadvantage that should hold you back from enjoying SMN.

Ok, just wanted to tell you, you dont need a 75 job to get fenrir or diablos, you mainly need access. I say you dont need 75, because if you have friends, they can have you tage along and you could just leech off them Matter of fact. For Fenny, 5 of us came smn, and the lvl 40 smn came with us. Same with diablos, blms burn and the low level smn. Te avatars you can get with ease, all you need a 2 other smns and you are set. they could duo them np.

Anyway as far as the mitts, yea you dont need to be high up. you just need access. They other 75's can kill the NM for you.

Smn is more about having fame and access than anything. As long as you do the work, none of the items are out of reach.

So you dont have to get them, but you dont want to level a job and not be prepared yaknow? Id say get the avatars out of the way if you can. Dont worry about diablos, if you dont have to. Some people dont get him til 60+ lol.

Good luck!

To quit before you start would make the start of something poor. Your only as good as the effort you put in.

I started out as SMN for my main and other than that my highest job is 35 whm and getting the mitts were no problem a friend got some of his friends to help and i got them at like 43-46.
and im level 60 now and we'll be doing the avatar prime runs for Fenrir this weekend(fingers crossed) so I definitely dont think u need a different 75 job to be SMN

I recommend at least try to get the mitts first. In the worst case, having it makes soloing easier.

I definitely wouldn't worry about getting Diabolos. I've never used him once out side of fighting Kirin or other sky Gods. And even then he can be replaced by the level 75 meritable BP. Sure he's nice to have, I guess. But it's surely not a must until at least end game.

Carby Mitts I didn't get until 30. I was so glad once I did get them. I don't think I got Fenrir until about 39 or something. I adored leveling with Fenrir once I got him. He's very very useful. And depending on your server, some people will invite you to parties solely for cures and Fenrir buffs. Many times in 54+ parties I was asked if I had him.

Shouting for help couldn't hurt, if you haven't yet. Carby Mitts really are nice to have, but not as much of a must, in my opinion. And because of level sync, you could probably go by without Fenrir for a little bit passed 43. But I would suggest trying to get him sooner rather than later.

Before you call it quits, ask yourself if it's really true you have no shot at getting some of these items. On some servers, there are SMN-focused or pet-job focused linkshells which, maybe a few times a year, will help out lower level summoners with events such as Carby mitts or Fenrir. Look around your server, maybe even do some shouts.

Diabolos may be more of a problem, he's hard enough that most groups can't afford to carry extra characters through the fight -- although I know of a PUP who has soloed it for low level folks (well, at least until it gets nerfed).

You could shout all day on sylph server and not get a group.
Ive seen players shout for more than 13 hours trying to get a group together for just about anything. I'm surprised I ever got carby mitts actually.

I didnt get fenrir til I was 75 I believe, I didnt even have Leviathan til I was 65. I still dont have diabolos and Ive tried getting people in on it but w/e.

You need carby mitts; if you have to shout for days and days and do nothing else then thats what you have to do but you need those mitts. I hate carby because he's weak but he is my most used avatar because he's free and I can use healing ruby II to cure him and me while soloing. Most times I find mobs that I can fight so I'd rather heal carby rather than run away, and resummon.

If you cant get the mitts then get as much -perp gear as you can and HQ to get him as cheap as possible. Fenrir will come with time and if you lvl another job to 75 (one that has use in diabolos) then you will get him too.

Wow, thx guys for all your advice.

I think I'm going to continue leveling my summoner as she is for now and hopefully get someone to help me get the mitts and fenrir later.

SMN really is a tricky job.

Fenrir is extremely good compared to your other avatars, and you are missing out on not having it. But the average buff a SMN support is just a fraction of a COR or BRD anyway so usually people do not even notice if you have fenrir or not.

Same with mitts. Having them allow you to keep your carby out forever and deal extra damage. But the damage is so low that it really doesn't matter if you can do it or not.

Or in other words, fenrir and mitts are HUGE for SMN, but minor for a party.
