Soloing Avatars (Not lvl 20 fights)Follow

Im not afraid to say this. Im not the best summoner but I do play the job class almost exclusively. It is my only 75 job. I have no endgame gear besides the latest redingote body piece if you consider that endgame gear. I added the -4 bp and the -2 perp, thought I would throw that in so people could tell me how I suck.

Now to your concern about soloing primes I have this to say.
MP is important for longevity. It is like anything else you solo as smn.
You summon, run away, resummon, run away, repeat. Dont run to far or you will lose hate and the prime will stop chasing and regain health fast.

No need to astral flow especially if your gonna do more than one prime a day.
If your only doing the one then go ahead and 2hr to help your mp stay up.

Elemental siphon will also need to be used, make a macro for it so its as fast as possible then summon your avatar out to engage.

You will probably need to take turns using carbuncle and whatever avatar is strongest against the prime your fighting.

Another note on elemental siphon is to max your summoning magic and use the spirit that is the same as the weather of the cloister your in to get the most mp back.

You have I think 30 minutes to complete the fight. I dont know a fast way to do it solo because primes dont blow up like bombs. Summoners are not strong or atleast I'm not and my avatars arent either so it takes a while to kill a prime for me.

I wanted to add something.
Just go in and try some different attacks, if you dont like how its going you can always exit the fight before things get out of hand and try again.

The 70BP's are probably the best to use against the primes but when I soloed ramuh the other day I used Fenrir and Carbuncle on and off. Fenrir's attack is lvl 55 I believe. It's not real strong but not too weak either.

I am trying to build my job for MP, -bp, -perp, and as high a smn skill as possible. I want to keep avatars out as long as I can and do as many BP's as I can before I have to resummon. I will merit avatar attack and such after I get smn skill fully merited.

Don't waste gil on consumable items, it defeats the purpose if your doing it for gil.

A level 75 Smn / 37 Sch can successfully solo any prime. I went with a Taru the other day into a prime and he solo'd Garuda in about 25 mins. Strategy was go in Predator Claws Garuda and then do normal kite method with carbuncle. About 2 deaths with Carby use your elemental siphon and do another Predator Claws. Then Carby kite once more til Sublimation is up. Keep doing this and the prime should be done in 25 mins.

I tried this once on Ifrit. I had an extremely hard time at 75 (with ample +MP gear and -perpet. gear) due to MP issues. I used the average kite with carb and BP pred. claws method. This was well before elemental siphon, though, so I think it would be a tad easier now days. I did end up winning but with much difficulty...on an avatar like Garuda or Leviathan where they spam heals on some occasions, I probably would have lost. Couldn't hurt to bring a few yagudo drinks or something else to help your MP.

As for your original question, I wouldn't attempt this at 68 as you would only have access to eclipse bite from Fenrir.

I've solo'd a prime many times, and in fact, it's my main source of income.

My tips:

1) Get perpetuation costs as low as you can get. You'll be fighting purely with your avatar, and when that avatar goes, you're dead. Keep in mind that you'll have no time to rest the entire time, so, you need to keep up MP at all times.

2) Use magic attacks over physical ones. All the primes seem to have a 50% resist physical damage trait, so using a physical bloodpact will have less effect than a magical bloodpact. Using the merit bloodpacts will have the greatest effect in terms of damage.

3) Allow your avatar to get TP. As a general rule, I usually wait for my avatar to get around 80% TP before using a bloodpact. This allows for more damage efficiency.

4) Use Elemental Syphon and Sublimation as often as possible. Remember point one where I said that MP needs to be kept up at all times. However, when using elemental syphon, use the double weather to your advantage. For example, when facing Shiva, use the Ice Elemental to get more MP out.

5) Above all else, do not panic. Always keep a cool head, especially if something unexpected happens. And never be afraid to leave if things turn especially dangerous. Sometimes, it's better to run away to fight again in five minutes than be killed and have to home point.
