I'll be the first to say I don't like this guide.

First off: These are AVATARS. Notice the capitalization. In NO WAY will they be very much weaker on the day their element is weak to. They STILL have double elemental status in the area you fight them. You said against...Garuda? that you had one of Carbuncle's Searing Lights resisted for half damage.

I went on Lightsday for every fight, never had a single resist. All SLs did 210 DMG, each and every time. That's a minimum of 18 Unresisted SLs on Lightsday, but it's actually more, because the only two Avatars I beat the first time were Garuda and Leviathan.

To all you new SMNs, trying out these battles, go on Lightsday, when Carbuncle is strongest. You'll be happier you did.

Secondly, all I took was 1 Yagudo Drink, 1 Boiled Crab or Fish Mithkabob, 1 Pamama Au Lait, and 2 Ethers. I only started bringing the two Ethers after I'd already beaten Titan and Shiva, just to be on the safe side. I believe I might have brought along 1 Potion also to a few of them, only used it once. You don't need Hi-Potions at all, especially not 4 of them.

As for the rest of the guide, besides the items and the choice of day, nothing else was really wrong.

I did all the battles as a Lvl 20 SMN, Summoning Skill wasn't capped, but was at most 6 from the cap (not really a big deal as no one knows for sure what Summoning Skill really does). Never got anything higher than Protect I (from myself). Got teleported, use Protect, Aquaveil, and a barelement if it applied. Shiva doesn't cast Sleep to my knowledge. I believe they're restricted to only using abilities they'd have in your hands at 20.

I don't think you needed to make this guide. It may have helped some, but you act like you're the be all end all person when it comes to the Level 20 Mini Battles.

Didn't rate you in either direction, though, I'm pretty sure you can't rate anybody unless you have an average rating of above 3.00.

Very nice guide ^^ rate up. One of the few ways you could die is the moment you hit SL, the avatar hits their 2-hr, i.e. Diamond dust. anyway to prevent this?

These guides look great, but my problem isnt with the actual Mini fights. My problem lies in the fact each fight on Titan server costs about 10-20k for supplies. I'v fought Shiva about 6 or 7 times already with no success because i cant afford any of the items (im not talkin about the equip, my LS is kindly lending me the equip i need for the fight). But my question is, where does one come up with the vast ammount of gil needed for things like this, and other things in this game. Dispel took me 2 months of farming Goblins for onions, Yagudo for beads to make spools with, and various other things. Can anyone help me, cuz im barely able to afford choco's these days.

Great Guide, thank you. This has helped me so much!! I just became a lvl 20 Smn Yesterday and took on my first battle with Shiva and won. Took on Ifrit today and Won, so I desided to take on Ramuh on lightday. Everything was going good, following what you said to a T. but after the first Searing Light I ran up, Carby died Ramuh gave chase. I recasted hit the second searing light. but I got caught on Carby and Judgement bolt took me down to red and took the rat out. I tried to run and use a hi potion in hope I would live. But I fell short and died ;_;. Oh well thank you again for this great guide ^_^

I like to thank those who contributed to this guide as well.

I fought Shiva, Ramuh, then Garuda yesterday.

Lost to Shiva because it was my first fight and was trying to make sure I did not forget anything so I think I took too long and the yagudo drink and astral flow wore off.

Lost to Ramuh because my third carby got paralyzed so my second Searing Light failed.

But my third fight went quite well and I only used one potion and one ether. So now I got Garuda in a little bottle. ^^

Off to fight some more tonight...

Thanks again.

Had the Paralyze problem with Ramuh today , he paralyzed me , so I got ****** off and hit the attack button. Next thing I know I am slashing away at Ramuh with 2 daggers , and he is getting nervous , I do a Searing Light and he has half his HP left . Everytime my HP goes down 100 points , I use another Hi Potion .
My TP hits 100% , I use Gust slash and his Hp is about 25% , form there he was history !!!! SUB NINJA it works the best !!!!
I tried to use Searing Light again , but my 2 hour must have wore off .

The thought had crossed my mind. Dual Hermit Wand to summon and then switch to dual weapons to melee. Too bad Utsusemi:Ichi is level 12. But if that was usable, it would probably make the mini-fights boring. I am a Taru, so I prefer not to melee since I have less HP and STR, so I never tried melee subs.

The battles are really fun right now as SMN/WHM so I let myself get killed by Titan during the end just so I can fight him again without having to walk there.

Hello, I just wanna post up a video of myself fighting Levithan. Hopefully it will help people who are having trouble. The procedure is basically the same for all the aeon battles, so if you're having troublem, don't give up because you'll get them eventually. Good Luck ^_^

Now on these last two battles carby has failed his 3rd searing light strike. like he just stops and he is right next to shiva or ifrit. my 2hour hasn;t worn off yet infact it doesn't wear off for another 30 secounds. so needless to say i get killed. I have become most unpleased with this, can ne1 tell me whats wrong?

With Shiva, Carby might have been paralyzed by her Ice Spikes but you should see "Carbuncle is paralyzed".

Try doing this: Release Carby when you are safely away. Resummon Carby. Walk up to the avatar and stand next to the avatar (real close) and wait for Carby to catch up. Then do Searing Light.

Because if you AND Carby are not standing close enough to the avatar and Carby does not have enough hate, your Searing Light command will draw enough hate so that avatar will move towards you. Doing so will cause Carby to lose targeting and waste the Searing Light.

But if you have a fresh Carby, there is little chance for it to be paralyzed. And if you are standing close enough, it doesn't matter who has hate, the avatar will only turn and won't move.

Also make sure the avatar is not doing any special attacks before you do the Searing Light to avoid Carby or you being killed first. If they do, then run/release/resummon/move in close.

I got carby back up but it was to late crit hit with after shock and im down for the count. I hate Judgement bolt with a passion Ramuh 2 GWH 0.

Yeah...on of my attempts before I beat him, I lost to Ramuh because of Judgement Bolt. Hang in there, you'll get him soon. There is a little amount of luck involved with these fights.

If Carby is gone and my HP is in orange, I use my hi-potion first before I summon. I lost that particular Jugdement Bolt fight because I thought my HP was fine to summon and wham...I'm dead when I was about done casting.

Such a comprehensive guide indeed.

I currently obtained Titan, Ifrit and Garuda.
But I fought Garuda at 10pm Singapore Time. And Japanese Time 12am is Singapore time 11pm. I tried again and 12am Singapore time (when my 2hr is back) and yes, I got to fight Garuda again. ^^

Try also switching avatars to fight when you failed 1, when your 2 hr is restored, you should try going to other cities to fight other avatars. Saves alot of time.

My next target is Shiva and then Ramuh before I head to Leviathan at Norg.

Anyone can roughly tell me how I can get to Norg with the safest possible route? I only can depend on my 31WHM for Sneak and Invisible.. lolz!

My scores so far:
Titan 0 - 1 Xtremex (got it!)
Shiva 1 - 0 Xtremex (/sigh)
Garuda 2 - 1 Xtremex (got it!)
Ifrit 0 - 1 Xtremex (got it!)
Ramuh 0 - 0 Xtremex (fighting soon)
Leviathan 0 - 0 Xtremex (fighting soon)

By the way, can i increase fame in Jeuno for Norg?
I am not very sure abt my fame in Norg, will check it in Jeuno based on the Rice Ball price but how do I gauge it?

Any other simplier ways to increase Norg fame before I leave for Norg?

Leviathan fight was still locked for me at 168 riceball. I turned in my Tenshodo Invite and did 5 zinc ores quests (turned in 20 ores total) after that and that was more than enough fame to unlocked it. I think 166 riceball is enough.

I beat Leviathan (my last mini-avatar) on first try ^^ on Earthsday. The fight was nice because I didn't need to use any regen drinks or potions. By the time I had enough fame, I was already level 25 and hence have Aerial Armor.

The easiest way to increase your Norg fame is either trade 4 zinc ores to Port Bastok NPC (basement of warehouse 2) or trade 4 yagudo necklaces to Windurst Woods NPC (NE corner).

You can either farm the necklaces or mine the zinc ores yourself. You can also buy them from AH and bazaars. I paid a LSmate to mine for me at 2500 per 8 ores since he mines frequently. I like the Bastok quest more because I can also solo worms in the tunnel or do Bernie runs while I am there.

Its been a while since I posted. I wanted to say thanks again, I guess the old saying third time is a charm really does work. FOr my third time on ramuh I won. The only pain is Judgement bolt nearly took me out again. but I ran down used my hp potion started to cast. took a step bad cast. ramuh hit second cast bad. got angry third cast went ouff I engaged and started swinging got carby out did the searing light. I was at 50 hp and ramuh was in mid swing to kill me when he fell over.

So luck I was. Now im headin to levi tonight. Now to take down the water god and I am set

WHY IS FAME SO IMPORTANT? It's only a matter of a few quests. Just go outside (usually just into the first area outside a major town), kill a few monsters to get stuff, then bring it back in! Trade it! Voila! Oh, and btw, a GREAT way to get fame is to do the "Missing Item" Airship quests! You only have to pay a one-time fee of 200 gil, and although it may take a while, it's worth the wait. That's how i got Windurstian fame~i only have 3 fame >.<

Also, I've heard rumors about Odin and Bahamut being new summons in the upcoming (waaay in the future) expansion pack. I've already got movies of a few new spells...will update in the near future

Either way, GREAT guide! I was:

(Wins/Losses)

Ifrit: 0/3
Leviathan: 0/2
Ramuh: 0/1 (me too chicken to fight him again)
Titan: 1/1
Garuda: 0/4
Shiva: 0/9 << owch
Fenrir: 0/0 (lol, not for a LOOONG time)

Now it's:
Ifrit: 1/3
Leviathan: 1/2
Ramuh: 0/1 (still too chicken)
Titan: 1/1
Garuda: 1/4
Shiva: still 0/9, me verrrry chicken
Fenrir: still 0/0

{Thank you.} {Thank you.} {Thank you.} {Thank you.} {Thank you.} and so on...
I just read about the physical earrings/armor-will try for Ramuh and Shiva. Overall, great guide, rate up, up, up, the sky's the limit!

Quick update.

Using this guide, I was able to obtain all 6 level 20 avatars within 48 hours. Shiva gave me some trouble (went 1/2 because I absolutely underestimated her). All the rest I was 1/1.

Ramuh was also challenging, but using your Ramuh section proved effective. I took more hits than usual, but with the hi-potions I brought along, it was easy.

Just a note: if you can, find a high level SMN to give you buffs as well. Blink and Stoneskin (Aerial Armor and Earthen Wand) can be very important in these fights. They could really be the difference between life and death.

And the coolest thing I saw: a high level SMN was actually waiting next to the Leviathan Protocrystal after I warped. He offered me stoneskin and cheered me on. It was great.
