I can confirm that logging off with Astral Flow in effect will reset your 2hr but you will keep the effect for whatever time still remained on the clock.

I did this last night. I showed someone my Ifrit Inferno then I logged out. Today I logged in and still had Astral Flow available. I then checked my 2hr and it was at 0:00.

I guess this still works. Funny how I just saw this last night.

Not sure what this was in response to, i need to go back and look but yes. 2hour is 2hours for any 2 hour ability.

If you use your 2 hour and log out, wait 2 real life hours and log in, it will be available. If you use it and log out, come back an hour later, you will still have 1 hour left before you can use it again. Using your 2 hour and logging out and waiting 2 mins will not reset your 2 hour back to 0 though. ^^

EDIT:

Thiefcat:

I seem to recall an old post about somebody using Astral Flow then IMMEDIATELY logging off.

Two hours later, (s)he logs back in and the previous Astral Flow was still in effect AND (s)he can use it again.

Has this been patched? Or, can I rely on this? So, when I want to do the Avatar battles, I'll Astral Flow two hours(Vana'diel Days) before Lightsday and log off. After 2 hours, log back in, quickly get into the battle arena and hopefully get to do 1 Searing Light before the Astral Flow(activated two hours ago) wears off.

Your two hour ability will only last for 3 mins with a 2 hour reset time. So if you use Astral Flow and do two searing lights, then log out. When you come back 5 mins later, astral flow will be gone and you will have to wait 1hour and 50 mins (roughly) before being able to activate Astral Flow again.

Fame level:
level 1 fame -->0-10 quest
level 2 fame -->10-20 quest
level 3 fame -->20-30 quest
level 4 fame -->30-50 quest
level 5 fame -->50-70 quest
level 6 fame -->70-90 quest
level 7 fame -->90-110 quest
level 8 fame -->110-140 quest
level 9 fame -->1400+ quest

this are the number of quest that need to be done to raise fame. repeated quest still raise fame and i believe that it raises it faster do a repeated quest for a npc and your fame will go up faster, as i only did about repeated quest in sandy and i got fame level 2. But in bastok i need 9 non repeated quest and i still didn't get fame level 2, so is up to you to choose.

Great guide! I plan on trying these out soon...

About the ongoing debate about whether lvl 2 or lvl 3 Fame... I have a comment..
Perhaps it also takes into consideration other fame such as in Selbina or Kazham etc?
Like maybe in Sandy etc, you have lvl 2 fame, but also have fame in the other cities?
And the poster(s) that claim that you do in fact need lvl 3 Fame, perhaps they have lower or no fame in the other cities?

Just a thought. /shrug

No more Fame discussions.....lol

Seriously, untill SE releases information specifically stating how fame is counted and such, it will remain a debate. The only thing I got out of the whole fame debate was maybe there differences in how much level fame 2 you have. Using the above post as an example.

Fame 2 (10-20 quests)
If you do 10 quests maybe you actually have something like fame 2.1 and if you do 19 quests maybe you have fame 2.8. Then maybe fame 2.8 will allow you to aquire the avatar quest where maybe fame 2.1 will not.

This is all hypothetical and the numbers are just examples, but other then the above (if it were true), I know that Fame 2 will get you the quest.

It takes 20 quests to get level 2 Fame, plain and Simple... assuming you have no other prior fame in the Area

It does not take 20 quests plain and simple to get fame 2!!!!

I only did 2 quests and 8 treant bulb quests and I received fame 2 in Bastok...so therefore

IT DOES NOT take 20 quests.

Hello guys,
I just defeated Ifrit tonight, right before the Fireday came up...so anyways, I defeated him and received Warp Scroll..so Do i have to touch the Crystal again to get any key item, or just warp back to the NPCs to receive the reward? (-.-)

No, just check your SMN Magic list, you'll find Ifrit there if you havn't defeated him before.

Keep up the good work Theifcat

I've gotten Shiva so far...

Now I'm 0-3 on Titan. Last night.. his first attack (before Carby even engaged) stunned both Carby and I. I should have waited to cast SL... but didn't realize I was stunned. So, I got to the bottom... realized I had 15 seconds left and ran for the top to cast Carby again. As soon as Carby was summoned... he got Stone IIed.

I called 'defeat' and let Titan beat me down instead of wasting any more potions..

Thiefcat u rock! thankyou so much for the guide. One bit of personal advise on a problem i ran into. Some of the skills the avatars use can interrupted carby's Searing Light so if u can, id wait until they have used what skill the will and then use searing light. just some advise cuz this happened a few times to me ^_^ good luck everyone!

I have level 0 (thats ZERO) Tenshodo/norg fame (npc in norg gives me the 3 line essay on building trust because ive done NO norg fame quests. As long as i use a SUMMONER with at least lvl 20 as my MAIN JOB, I get the leviathan mini fork quest. I fought all the avatars without doing fame quests first. I have dragged new summoners kicking and screaming to norg who dont have any fame just to see if they could get it with no fame and so far every single one of them has, and further have confirmed for me that 0 fame gets them the ramuh battle (windy fame) in mhaura, and the Shiva battle in sandy as well. Now unfortunately you have to do at least kazham keys quests to get ifrit quest (windy- kazham fame) so its not definitely 0.0 fame there... but go off and try it for yourself and see. Make SURE you have your main job as summoner and that youre above lvl 20 and go try the npc for the quest. I'm fairly sure that despite the popular opinion that the lvl 20 battles are all ZERO fame.

Just Curious.

Why don't we follow Thiefcat's guide but start every fight like when we fight Ramuh? That way Carby can melee 1 round before we Fire 3 SL which will increase the chance that avatar will die in the 3rd SL.

Now I have a question. Will carby hit harder & have more defense when AF is activated? If yes then It's worth it to use the AF&logout strategy.

Thank you ^_^

hey i just wanted to pop off a huge thanks to theifcat for this guide, i used it to sucessfully obtain all my avatars, save levi. i just dread the idea of farming necklaces for norg fame... **shudders as he remembers doing quests for aspir**
all in all though you did a great job with your guide, and i must say that without your guidance i could have never gotten the avatars so fast. thanks man!!

I had to chime in on this guide. I decided to do Summoner kinda as a side thing. I was working on some other adv. jobs when I said why not and started fighting leeches, eventually getting my ruby. Then I began to process of leveling up, just to get to level 20 and get the avatars.

As of now I am 1 avatar away from completing my task. My first fight I tried the 3SL method on the Summoner info site. Well I panicked and lost to Shiva, I forgot to do something dumb like drink an Ether.

Then I saw the video posted with the 2SL method. I fought Titan, Garuda, and Ramuh and lost. 2 hours later I take down Ifrit and Shiva and Titan soon follow. Then I was stuck for a couple of days, the 2SL method wasn't working as the 2 hours kept killing me.

Then I read this guide, although I'm not sure how I missed it. This morning I fought Leviathan using this method, smooth as a baby's bottom. Then this afternoon I fought Ramuh, starting casting at the crack (I had been at the bend and Assualting). Thunderspark went off right away and Paralyzes me, fortunately Carbuncle popped out and started meleeing. I run down to the crystal, thinking I should wait. Carby dies and I start casting, then realizing I need paralyna. Fails once, start mashing Carby, paralyze wears off in the middle Ramuh starts wailing away but Carby comes right on out. I fire off my Searing Light and run like ****. To make a long story short, I get the second SL off, Ramuh hits me with Thunder II, I get rthe second SL off down a hi-potion, I see Ramuh ready Judgement Bolt, the reason he beat me twice before... it does 160, I down another potion, cast Carby, fire SL, D-E-A-D. /cheer

For me what made the biggest difference was equipment. I had whm as a sub, and let me tell you this equipment is almost right on and cost me a fraction of what I had already spent on lost battles. Buy the equipment, get your HP up as high as possible. My HP was around 300 allowing me more time to use that hi-potion or cast another Carbuncle.

GREAT guide! What has been said is spot on, and for the record, my fame was "2" for all battles.

Thank you for this post.
Thanks to you, I just got Ifrit, Shiva and Titan. Also, I broke the record on Shiva, and Titan on my server. Three minutes 51 seconds on Shiva, four minutes and 1 second on Titan. The whole thing with "The Crack" is perfect, I didn't even get slept by Shiva at all. Now I'm off to get my next three.
Once again,
Thank You!

Just a bump and a thumbs-up for this guide. I hit SMN 20 on Friday, got Shiva and Ifrit Friday night, then Garuda, Leviathan and Titan on Saturday (but lost to Ramuh.) Lost to Ramuh again on Sunday. (D'oh!) Finally beat Ramuh on Monday.

I had the most trouble with Ramuh-- he's a tough nut to crack. I was only able to get 2 SLs off, but I still managed to finish him off with just plain ol'Carby. (And the help of Yag Drinks and Mulsum.)

Also recommended-- au Laits. If you can get a friend to make one, I love Persikos au Lait. Expensive, but it lasts as long as any fight should, and for a Taru (like my main, Drix), regen is worth it.

Congratz on the great post/guide!

While leveling my SMN I read through your guide a couple times to help prepare for the upcomming battles. Needless to say, I found the information extremely helpful. *thumbs up* I recorded the battles I did today using fraps, as soon as I can find a decent free webhost, Ill post a link to the movies. I was originaly going to fight Ifrit first, but got held up and couldnt fight during watersday. So instead I took on Shiva first, then Ramuh; I won both times with ease^^

I HATE LAG SO FREAKIN MUCH!!!

let me explain. i went and took titan for my first avatar and i beat him on the first try. i waited the two hours and then headed to norg to do leviathan. i got off the first searing light and began running back to the crystal. about have way there, i discovered that i was lagging out. i ran all the way back to the crystal and waited. my connection fixed itself and when it did, i was sprawled face first on the ground!!!!!

i'm now gonna wait two hours and then try to get garuda. if i can avoid the lag, then i should have a very good chance of winning. oh well, onward and upward to the next :)!

Thanks for this guide, it's very helpful.

I'm having a frustrating problem with Titan though and I'm seriously about to lose my freakin mind.

I've fought the stupid guy for 3 times and he keeps binding me at the beginning of the battle. So then my astral flow gets all messed up. Okay, so I run up and cast carby for the first time, astral flow - SL. He binds me. By the time I can run off carby is dead so I have to recast right there. After that I run back to the crystal, but Titan is still following me. Carby dies, I recast and run off. Carby and Titan fight for a bit and then RIGHT before Carby dies, like one hit before he's gone, the stupid dumb #@*& turns around and already starts walking up the path for me. So then he gets up to me and Carby catches up to him. He pummels Carby and I try to recast but he's beating the crap out of me, Astral Flow is gone by now and I'm preparing to gnaw on rock.

This is REALLY starting to *tries to take a deep breath* Okay this is really really angering me and I'm by no means rich and I'm sick of wasting my money. What do I do. Someone please help me. I don't have the patience for this. -_-
