I note that plugin-container.exe is using 15-50k in processes in the task manager.

I have an Olde system.

Is this a needed processes if I am just running EQ and Firefox (ZAM:EQ)?

It's actually part of firefox. You can disable it, but if a plugin crashes in firefox it will then crash the whole browser. High system resource usage may be indicitive of a bad windows user profile, fixing that is rather annoying.

How old is your system where you have to actually consider something using 15-50k of RAM?

seriously? Alright, do me a favor. Locate someone who owns a shotgun, and put that computer out of its misery, and then go buy someting with at least a pentium D in it. Do you have a CRT monitor attached to it too? If nothing else, the electricty savings alone from getting away from a Pentium IV will pay for an upgrade ina few years.

In all seriousness, if you can, go purchase a good LCD monitor today. CRT monitors, aside from using much more electricity, are also a major cause of eye strain and fatigue. Your brain percieves a steady solid image, but in reality that screen is constantly redrawing and causing your eyes to refocus. If I remember correctly you have mentioned vision concerns in the past. While the CRT pobably isn't the root cause, it may very well be making things worse. Also the LCD will pay for itself in about a year and a half in lower energy costs.

A good 19"-23" LCD will run you between $110 and $160 or so, 24" and larger you might need a new video card to drive them, and in this case a new PC. Dell, Samsung and LG all tend to make decent monitors. Look for the highest contrast ratio number (800-1,000 is a good starting range), the lowest redraw speed number (listed in miliseconds. 8MS is about the higest you would want to consider), and a large color depth.

Now he's just got to get used to all the straight lines looking like they cave inward. I remember back when I first switched from CRT to a flat screen.

Depends on the CRT. most of the ones likely to still be alive are probably "flat pane" CRT's, where the front glass is actually flat. Also, even with the cheap ones I've never noticed that effect. So, maybe?

Haven't noticed this effect.

And, no, the old CRT was not flat screen.
